I'm not even a fan of Playstation but... I hate when people write dumb articles saying a system will fail before its even come out. There's way too many anti-nintendo, anti-sony, anti-microsoft articles on here. Lets try and write based on what actually happens for a change.

Sony is definitely going to learn from its mistakes. It will not bring a super expensive or overly high tech console this time. It doesn't have to win a format war which gave Sony money for blu ray printing. They will bring things like cross party chat for free so all the m$ fanboys will stop complaining over why xbox live is better and they have to spend 50$ a year just to be able to play online. Most likely will include bd-XL to make room for huge HD games.

The only way PS brand will fail is suddenly all PS fans world wide are murdered and unable to buy PS products. Yeah, like that is going to happen. Once you are a fan of PS, it is for life. Sony will have customers for generations to come.

It's a little too early to determine Doom n' Gloom for the PS3.

As far back as I can remember there has always been contending consoles on the market each gen dating as far back as the early 1970's.

What we have seen this gen is vs other gens is that there are less and less competing consoles. This gen we only have 3 major consoles. PS3, Wii and the 360. Last gen Sony dominated the market with Nintendo and the Xbox far behind in the dust thanks to 3rd party support. This gen Sony has underperformed vs. what they did last gen and the gen before that. MS have shown to be an unexpected "serious" contender. Deep pockets do help but can you blame a business using their resources to become a contender in a market? I sure as heck can't. The we have Nintendo who took a chance and it paid off.

Going into next gen, MS and Nintendo are in a comfortable position Economical wise. Sony on the other hand is not. Sony is currently trying to change their business strategies around and reshape their internal departments. They won't release another console that is leaps and bounds like the PS3 was to the PS2. They have lost a lot of exclusive 3rd party support, financially they can't launch a high end console at a high end price again going into next gen.

Sure Nintendo is launching the Wii U and we all know MS will be launching their 360 successor late 2013 or early 2014....but with Sony's current situation, loss of market share, tarnished brand name due to their TV department and PSN hacks, Early arrogance this gen and stiff competition going into next gen, lets face it, ALL EYES ARE ON SONY. We all want to see what Sony has up their sleeves. What are they going to release. How are they going to contend? Are they going to stick with the Cell? Are they going to upgrade PSN to turn a profit by charging?

This author seems to slant more on the negative side (possible for greater hits) rather than simply being objective. Yes Sony is in a bad position going into next gen but I would say it's far to early for doom n' gloom articles.

Console gaming in general is doomed because of overpriced games, online passes, exclusive dlc and online fees. They're making things too confusing and expensive for casual gamers who can just get their gaming fix on their phone or Facebook which is easier and for free. I'm not reading this flamebait article. Until someone can prove to me that they can see the future I'll disregard anything that starts with "Why [BLANK] will fail".

Sony has made notable improvements in their service department both on PS3 and PSvita's with regards to presentation and features. If they can improve upon their PSVita interface for PS4 and offer Gaikai features whos' to say that they couldn't be the best next gen.

As far as multiples go it has been well documented that the ps3 current graphics card wasn't Sonys preferred card of choice but used in a last ditch effort to release the ps3 along side the Xbox console (due to the incompletion of the processor). Im sure next gen will see the completion of the Cell processor as both a processor and graphic card(with a more easier architecture for developers to grasp). And i have no doubt that a better more powerful graphics card will be incorporated with the benefit of a unified pipeline(a feature the ps3 didn't have). With this it will be near impossible to tell the difference between multiples as both will be using quite powerful ones.

On top of these things I have no doubt that Sony will continue to churn out great games next gen using the blu ray format. They will push the hardware to its limit like they have in the past and continue to release new IPs(which will look excellent if it uses 4k tech). Also with a better blu ray drive it would mean smaller to no installations required to play games

This is why i think PS4 will be the better console regardless of its selling price over xbox 720.

If anyone failed this generation, it's Microsoft with the 360. They had a one year start and sold 8 millions in that year. Yet, a year later the ps3 was released at 599.99, stayed that way for 1 or 2 years and today, the ps3 is below 2 millions behind.

This means the PS3 sold quicker and more than the 360 in shorter period of time. If they would have been released the same year, the winner would be even more obvious.

Maybe I should start writing articles about how the next xbox will fail. If this site is Pro-Sony and the mods here just approve any articles, this mean I could probably write anything I want.

Let's face it, you won't see those articles for microsoft because even if they make a console that fail, they almost have infinite money.

Now, those articles are only appearing because Sony has had financial difficulties. Guess what? They're not going anywhere for a very long time.

Oh, don't say the Vita is dead, it's not. The 3DS was doing even worst at first, especially since that one would never be worth 250$ even with all the games it has now. Every consoles do slowly at first. While Sony's consoles are slow to pick up the pace at first, when they do, they go faster than anyone else.

Don't bring PSN hack in this as well. Xbox Live could have easily have been hacked just like PSN, because you can go on dreaming if you think they have good security just because people pay for it. The difference is that Sony pissed the hackers with their lawsuits while Microsoft didn't try anything, then look what happen, pirating the 360 is easy as hell.

Don't say anything about next-gen consoles yet, none of them have been revealed yet and the PS4 and NextBox may not even come in 2013 (and the WiiU doesn't really count). So before going around talking garbage about something, at least wait till you have informations on it.

It may not fail but if Sony can't get back the biggest gaming market in the world then I see similar results as this gen. One thing for sure is that Sony will never see ps2 like sales again. MS has made its mark and Sony is got a tough uphill battle while MS rides in with momentum.

The PS2 is still going, the PS3 is only getting momentum and just like the PS2 have many years to go before it dies maybe when the PS5 arrives. Why would the PS4 not do the same, but Masonics idiots tend to differ and disagree.

Fact is Sony are going to be forced to go the casual route to survive & thrive. The moronic mass consumer base dictates this. So games like Tokyo Jungle that will be largely ignored due to the fact it does not have a gun toting, camo wearing protagonist as it's star, will slowly (although faster than I want) dissapear. The casual market that go crazy for Nintendogs 12, Mario 18, Mario Tennis 12, Mario Kart 17.5, & Pokeyamom 19 dictate that we get sequels to there platformer hero that hasn't revolutioned or even substantially evolutionized since Mario 64, as well as all there other cutesy sequels that are aimed squarely at younger kids, diehard Nintendo fans & female gamers alike are helping in large part dictate what direction the marketplace will go.
Then we have the other clowns that are helping pull bricks from the evolutionary building of gaming.....they are the dopes that keep buying Maddens, Fifa's, COD's, etc, etc, year after year when these games are the same time & time again.
From the original Xbox, MS have had the fps console theme, motto & mantra going, which has helped turn this whole gen into a fps-a-thon.

So, with that said....Sony have been shutting down awesome European & such inhouse developers like it's going outta style, merging & ruining others by putting them exclusively on crap like Singstar & Home. Teams that made awesome games like Wipeout, Rollcage, G-Police, Medievil, The Mark Of Kri, Primal, Ghosthunter & The Getaway, to name a few,....& all games I wanted to see more of, but won't now. Not to mention Zipper's closure.....I mean Zipper, Zipper were solely responsible for the success of PS2's online, as it was the ONLY great game available for PS2's online.
Not to mention that I've already shed my tears & accepted that Team Ico are all but an announcement away from Sony closing them (which isn't Sony's fault, as they have encouraged them to be creative for as long as financially viable), so the only ones to blame are consumers, as obviously they are not ready for anything other than war themed shooters & sports franchise yearly updates

So, PS4 won't fail, but with the rapid closure of there studios that dare to be original, different & groundbreaking, it would seem that Sony's next console is liable to be totally indistinguishable from MS's next machine.
I mean, Sony's horribly declined install base from PS2 to PS3, has already meant that Sony already has less games & developers to set itself apart from MS's box, still easily enough to set itself apart from MS's machine, but with 3 of my personal favorite developers closed & all but ruined in Zipper, Cambridge Studios & Liverpool Studios.....oh hell, as well as Team Soho, so 4 of my favorites, & with Insomniac abandoning there awesome FPS franchise Resistance, as well as going multiplat, it seems that Sony is running out of development studios that set itself apart from the competetion (something they have successfully done & prided themselves on since they came to be a major force in gaming with PS1's inception).

It would be a sad day if Sony were knocked out of the console & gaming arena.......
And I guarantee, that if Sony were outted, MS's price for Xbox Live Gold memberships would instantly go riiight up, Nintendo would definately put a price on there future online services.
Sony are paving the way for how online should be with PSN+. In other words, yes you pay a fee for PSN+, but, you get free games, discount price games & content & such. For me, this is a better deal for consumers & a good model for future console online models.

MS should take a note from Sony's PSN+ model, by giving it's XBL Gold customers something for what they are paying for.......but, again, these are not smart people....& I am no fanboy, as I have a 360 (silver member), Wii & PS3.......but these idiots that are paying for Live, yet getting nothing for it are setting a scary precedence for our future gaming. Basically ALL these dopes that are paying for XBL Gold, are sending the msg to MS, Sony & Nintendo, that we are happy to pay for the internet twice, we are so dumb as consumers that we are willing to fork out for the same thing twice,....once to our ISP's & again to a 3rd party, & we are stupid enough to do this when the 2nd charge is non-existant elsewhere on pc & PS3.

If XBL Gold was ignored, MS would have either been forced to offer online play on there machine for the exact ammount it should be 0, or, they would have had to of offered incentives such as Sony offer with PSN+. I mean, even though it is completely charge free to play PS3 games online (well, apart from the unneccessarily overpriced ISP costs), it is worth it to someone like me, that buys a LOT of games, to invest in PSN+ (I'm not yet).
So, if PS4 required you to pay to play online, but offered the same other incentives PSN+ does, I would not hesitate to pay for that, as it is far more better value for money than MS's rip off infrastructure.

The herds of sheepish morons though, have flocked to the Gold service, justifying it to us all, when it is unjustifiable (hey, it is there money, whether a buck a week, or however else they wanna justify it), & therefore, just as our game genre & brands are determined for us with FPS's, Sports like COD & Madden, now too, the masses have determined an outcome of future console online infrastructures. In other words, we shall pay through the nose to get something we already have again, it will be a closed infrastructure that will not allow developers the freedom they want & deserve, as well as gimping us actual gamers on user generated content & such (as seen with Unreal PS3 compared with 360 vsn), also we are destined to get no extra value for money as XBL Gold has proven success with (unless your dumb enough to count X-game chat, which is a nice feature I admit, but hardly detrimental to gaming).

I hope Sony is around for a lot longer yet....I hope Nintendo goes if anyone, that way there Mario crap can go to PS5 & Xbox 2480. It would be awesome if MS bowed out though & Samsung entered in either Ninty's or MS's place.
I mean, lets face it, MS has been the most useless to gamers since there inception to market. They had the supposed most powerful hardware last gen, yet did absolutely nothing with it. And 360 has fared better with better 3rd party support, but again has really done nothing to set themselves apart, or make a footprint in the market.
So, if I had to pick one to go....it would have to go on who has brought the least to the game....and that is by far MS.

The title of this article should be, "Why I am an idiot, and why you shouldn't read this"

I can't help but think Sony is at a dangerous crossroads. Looking back at history, winners from one generation don't always carry over to the next, so that would imply an opportunity for Sony. And I think both the PS3 and Vita are well built machines, so there's reason to think the PS4 will also be a well built device.

But almost everything else about Sony gives me cause for concern. They lost the North American market and it will probably take a Microsoft misstep to get it back. Given that something as ridiculous as the RROD fiasco wasn't enough to stop the Xbox, that doesn't leave much hope. Then there's Sony's tendency to over-promise and under-deliver. The Vita is a fantastic example of this, from cross play to remote play, the reality is much less than the hype that Sony created.

Is it possible for Sony to turn things around for the next generation? Sure, it's possible. But I'm looking at Sony's moves since the launch of the PS3 and I don't see a lot to have confidence in. I see a great engineering company with a mess of a marketing company, with the latter in control of the ship. That's an oversimplification, of course, but it's close enough to be uncomfortable.

I want Sony to be successful, because I like their products. But my gut tells me, this coming generation, it might be time to move on to Microsoft.

Coming out after Wii U could hurt... ONLY if it takes off like Wii did, but that's if the casuals that made Wii a hit... indeed bite into the steeper price tag!

Also they need to be closer when releasing to the Next Xbox...

But as Sony has proven with their bevy of Exclusives... their system will definatley not be lacking great games!

Lost Ps3 sales revolved around varied decisions like pricing at launch etc of which, Sony has learned from aside from other factors. I'm not going to beef around statistical turnouts from trends but just hope Sony makes the right decisions to succeed for a better gamer choice in the market and in turn, to have the authors face cringe and eat his own words.

The original fat PS3 was a bit of a design lapse in my opinion, not in touch with the past sleek Sony designs.
Anyone who'd had or seen the old Xbox didn't want another huge monstrosity on their house even if it was backwards compatible.

The PS4 needs to embrace quirkiness in my opinion. Some PS3 titles have done that a lot (and Puppeteer is due next year) but early on in its life it was a little too overblownly generic.

The sales arguement for the PS3 is irrelevant because it's only 2M units behind Xbox 360 despite coming out more expensive.
If the PS3 came out before Xbox 360 it'd be slaughtering M$ in sales.
Games are selling roughly the same on each platform.
