Face-Off: Dishonored

EuroGamer: "From a design perspective, developer Arkane Studios adds plenty of its own ideas to a formula long established by the likes of System Shock. The visual style is particularly striking, with Half-Life 2 art director Viktor Antonov putting forward a brooding, pastel-toned world and cast of characters to service a tale of betrayal. From the smoggy distilleries to the Athenian sheen of the capital city of Dunwall, we see a clash of the industrial and the monarchical at every turn, and each is vividly realised through a very capable iteration of Unreal Engine 3.

But which version makes the best of it?"

"@60fps, what resolution are you playing on?"

I play all my games at 1920x1080 atm.

till I get my holy grail IPS display. ;-)

Perjoss4964d ago

Summary... PS3 version looks slightly better than 360. 360 version performs slightly better than PS3 version. And no surprise the PC version looks and performs better than both console versions.

adorie4964d ago (Edited 4964d ago )

PC has MLAA and FXAA. FXAA looks cleaner in some ways but MLAA seems more crispy in others.

I haven't tried to override the settings via Nvidia control panel settings, but I'm figuring that I will need to wait for a driver up-date from Nvidia to do it properly, but I will try it right now.

So far, no frame issues, butter smooth @60 FPS with hardly any drop at all.

@60fps, what resolution are you playing on?

knowyourstuff4964d ago

I know, talk about splitting hairs, with a 1% difference in screen tearing, and with just slightly better colours and textures on PS3, most people would be extremely hard pressed to determine any difference just looking at the two in person.

aquamala4964d ago

no surprise here. xbox360 and PS3 are about the same, both are equivalent to "medium" setting at 720p resolution on PC.

One of my biggest art heroes. His work and vision were truly one of a kind, and he’s been a huge inspiration to my own work. Such a heartbreaking loss.

Deeeeznuuuts450d ago

Remember seeing Dishonored for the first time when it released, fell in love with the art style straight away, so striking! And because of it, still holds up and will for years to come, RIP Viktor

JEECE450d ago

Yep I remember seeing some of the earliest concept art for Dishonored and hearing that the art director of Half-Life 2 was working on it and being excited.

And you are absolutely right, each of those games (HL2 and Dishonored) has a distinct art style that stands the test of time.

Relientk77450d ago

So sad to hear this. I absolutely love the Dishonored series and love the world and art style. It looks great and unique. I'm still hoping for a Dishonored 3

rokos450d ago

RIP Viktor love your work

Ethereal450d ago

Damn... Dishonored has such amazing art. RIP.

Arkane Co-Founder Says Dishonored and Prey Fans 'Will Be Happy' With His Next Game

WolfEye Studios president and co-founder of Arkane Studios Raphaël Colantonio has said Dishonored and Prey fans “will be happy” with his new studio's next game.

Marcus Fenix643d ago

Can’t wait to see what they’re working on

Relientk77643d ago

If it's something like Dishonored, then I am totally here for it.

TheNamelessOne643d ago

Let's hope. Their first game, Weird West, really wasn't my thing.

Miacosa643d ago

Ouch, already placing a sales cap on this is potentially bad as these games never seem to sell all too well. Hopefully the budget is in check so no one gets laid off after launch.

Psychonaut85642d ago

Fuck yeah. Even if it’s just a spiritual successor I want more titles like Dishonored in terms of art style, design and gameplay

Avowed's director says they "don't believe in living in fear" after Microsoft closed studios

"As a developer - and as a player - it's always sad and it always sucks to see studios close and devs lose their jobs. I really hope all those people land on their feet, because I know our indusutry is better with them in it," Patel tells the outlet. "As for me and how I look at things, I guess first and foremost: I don't believe in living in fear," the Avowed director.

Skuletor700d ago

It was probably already decided yesterday

BISHOP-BRASIL700d ago

"And then Phil Spencer took it as challenge..."

Elda700d ago

They better worry because Avowed doesn't look all that.
