GO Critic, "Final Fantasy IX finally was announced in ’99 and in obviously elated reaction to the world not ending, it was released late in 2000. It was the last Final Fantasy to be released on the PSX, and at first glance (if you were a part of the “new fan” group) you probably wouldn’t even recognize the game as what you’re familiar with.

I've played all the way through FFIX at least 7 times. Need I say more on how amazing the game is?
Sadly, so many people are blinded by the over-ratedness of FF7, and fail to realize that FF9 also had great memorable characters alongside a fantastic story. It went back to the roots of Final Fantasy and did it well.
