No pause option for Dead Space?

CVG writes:

"In space no one will hear you pause, take a few deep breaths and revive yourself, before continuing. Or at least that's an option EA's dev team is looking at for its upcoming survival horror game, Dead Space.

We've all done it, or at least been comforted by the fact that if the rabid dogs in Resident Evil got a little too much, you could hit pause, calmly cycle through your inventory and ram a few health packs down your throat. You're now able to take a few more bites to the leg before seeing the You Died message. Well done you."

hey is it true? EA is doing something new to the gameplay? its a real good idea (IMO) maybe EA is changing? yes i believe so.

Snoozer2826665d ago

To be honest, it's highly impractical. Say you needed the toilet, needed a half an hour break or just a cup of tea. While pausing may break the mood, I’d get highly frustrated if it’s not there.

Tell that to the evil monsters. You think they'll let you go take a sh1t before they kill you? They rather make you sh1t in your pants, that way you may taste better (for them).

OMGLOLZ6665d ago

Yeah... EA is like ten times more innovative than they are.

Let's think of Activisions new games:

COD5: Back to world war 2 with a horrible developer that ruined the third game.

Guitar Hero 4: Really? You're still trying? GH3 was crap compared to Rock Band, isn't it time to give up and stop giving awful devlopers good games?

Spiderman 4: More crap.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 11: After Proving Ground I think this series is a joke.

Now let's look at EA's recent games:

Skate
Fight Night 3
Command and Conquer 3
Tiberium
Crysis
Rock Band
Burnout Paradise
Dead Space
Mass Effect
Mercenaries 2

Those aren't even all of them, but compared to Activision they are the most creative people on the planet. Activision hates consumers. They hate you.

Theyll probably have places u can hide (like a cupboard or bathtub or sumthin) so u can take a sh1t while youre character is hiding

GIJeff6665d ago

they can make it so you are only allowed to pause when you are not near an enemy. Like, you can pause if your character is alone in a locked room, or, alone in any room. Just like in hero movies: **CLOVERFIELD SPOILER KIND OF** in cloverfield, the heros "pause" when they are in the subway station, in the small locked room with the soda machine. This could easily be done in games, and i believe would be a great idea for EAs new title.

GIJeff6665d ago

yea, activision hasn't released anything special in a long time. I'm with you. F the haterz.

You will be able to pause the game. You just wont be able to cycle through any of the menus while pause (ala FF VII).

Keowrath6665d ago

ahhh that answers my question at #11. I missed your post.

MK_Red6665d ago

I hope they make it optional but make this option completely pause less so there is no stop and escape in middle of scary parts.

OC Shock Value6665d ago

I hope they go thru with this.. it sounds like a great idea to me..

If only this game had online co-op as well.. this would be a MUST but.. more people need to get on the ball with the co-op in their games..

survival horror would have the best ever if done right

Rice6665d ago

Sick, i always pause a game if a part gets really scary..... This game is now on my must have list...

Laexerias6665d ago

i need to chill when i get scared, anyways instant heartimpact lol.

The_Firestarter6665d ago

Don't be such wimps! I've never paused during scary parts (like in Fatal Frame 2). Instead, I made sure to play all the way through, so I can fully appreciate the scares. >:)

Rice6664d ago

at least i play horror games, lol.... wait my bad i meant at least i watch my friends play the games.

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

Knightofelemia500d ago (Edited 500d ago )

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken500d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

chicken_in_the_corn500d ago

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb500d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno499d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex499d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.

EA Japan Exec Criticises Japanese Ratings Board

An executive of Electronic Arts Japan has criticised the Japanese video game ratings board for allowing upcoming action game Stellar Blade to be released uncensored while EA's own Dead Space was banned in the country.

CrimsonWing69748d ago

He’s got a point. If a game is M-Rated, which is the equivalent of an R rating, I don’t get why you need to censor anything. The rating is the indicator of the content and the age appropriate. If it’s appropriate for adults… why treat them like children? 🤷‍♂️

Eonjay747d ago (Edited 747d ago )

This is about gore... not about anything sexual. And specifically I think it is about the realistic depiction of gore. Unfortunately I don't know the nuance of the CERO board or how it is relevant their specific culture (as a prohibition on gore may transcend age) so I hesitate to make a statement. Can anyone else provide insight to what kind of gore is considered unacceptable?

CrimsonWing69747d ago (Edited 747d ago )

Yea, I know this is about gore, but thanks for pointing that out.

My point still stands, if a game is essentially rated for a mature audience then why censor for them as if they’re too young to view it? Makes no sense.

To answer your question: Decapitation, dismemberment, like… anything gore. They have been censoring that since CERO was established. Look up RE4 chainsaw decapitation or any MK games that made it there.

Cacabunga747d ago

EA Japan? Wtf never heard of that

ZwVw747d ago

Yet, the Oneechanbara series (y'know, the game with half-naked samurai females slicing up zombies to bloody pieces) get released in Japan uncensored.

The CERO ratings board is an equilibrium.

Smellsforfree747d ago

This confuses me since I've seen so many gory Japanese movies and anime. For example, Battle Royale.

gold_drake747d ago

definitely has a point.

but .. its japan. are we really surprised?

VersusDMC747d ago

I don't know if the EA executive is going off the one close up of an arm being cut off in the demo. Maybe it's uncensored because it's the arm of a cyborg or it doesn't happen that often (didn’t see EVE dismemberment when killed in the demo) .

In the states there's a certain amount of swear words allowed to a PG13 movie before it is deemed R. So maybe it's the same in Japan for gore?

Eonjay747d ago

Yes I think you may be on to something. The violence is gory but I wouldn't call it gruesome.

Retroman747d ago

Ea Japan please make Knack 3
in the future

Eonjay747d ago (Edited 747d ago )

Does EA Japan actually make games at all? Or are they just a regional publisher?

Retroman746d ago

I'm sorry Japan Studio made Knack
