NASA Scientist uses Grand Theft Auto IV as an Example in new Theory

In a recent interview with Vice, NASA Scientist Rich Terrile talks about his theory that Real Life itself may just be a simulation like any of todays computer games.
He then goes on to compare his theory to Grand Theft Auto IV running on a Playstation 3.

We are in a transition stage between reality and imagination.

So we have established that a NASA scientist uses a PS3, smart guy.

"One explanation is that we’re living within a simulation, seeing what we need to see when we need to see it." - That's funny I have joked with my friends about that very thing. I tell them that I am the only real person in existence and that everything and everyone is just drawn when they are around me. Works good, I haven't suddenly seen a tree drawn in the distance yet :)

I HAVE I HAVE OMG

but I think I was high . . .

SAE4854d ago

Same thought came when i was a kid , it was just a thought when i was a little lonely or sad or something like that ...

But it is not , as you see , each have his own thinking , things are not the same , there must be a reason for life and death , it's unknown what GOD made us for , i think these questions are coming from the devil to stop living the right way ...

Here is an example of what i mean , some times i ask my self , since im going to die and it is a right for all of us , wether im going to hell or heaven , what's the use of that for GOD , is he preparing something for us or its a sim to show his power and upgrade it like what this scientist says Or its just a reason we cant understand , these questions are useless because we only gonna know until we meet him after we die , it makes us avoid GOD and it is creation which is this universe that is too complecated and organised to come from nothing and no reason ...

What im saying doesn't mean we shouldnt try to discover things :) , im saying it as if something bad happened to you and thought of this then it is from the devil to hate GOD , what is happening to us even if it is bad GOD let it happen because it is the best thing for us , you dont know how GOD loves you , you dont know how many time he helped you , you would worship him every second if you knew ...

I feel most of the time that life is more like a test for us , live it the right way , defend what is right and you wont regret anything ., accept what ever happen to you ...

lol I've been thinking about the same idea since i was a kid xD

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty10h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan13h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher10h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty10h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies124h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

They were involved in protected Union activities and Rockstar will be in trouble with the NLRB.

DarXyde52d ago

You think this NLRB will lift a finger?

Watch the video this is in England

gerbintosh52d ago

Basically this is Rockstar vs the Union members word. These employees could be cherry picking or spoofing the chat logs.Rockstar could be lying. I will withhold judgment until Discord is subpoened and releases the chat group text from their servers.

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser explains why open world spy game Agent never worked out

A rare interview from the former GTA and Red Dead Redemption writer and executive producer.

dveio75d ago

Interesting to know.

Among MGS4, Agent was the reason I wanted and bought a PS3. (Who knew we would get other gems like Killzone 2 and TLoU.)

I always assumed it got cancelled due to hardware restrictions even at that time.

Deeeeznuuuts75d ago

Such a shame, I remember first reading about it in official playstation magazine, Agent and The Getaway are the two cancelled games I wish I could play 😩

Christopher74d ago

Because it had to be open world, of course. Couldn't change that and make the Agent game work otherwise. Totally buying it.

Redgrave74d ago

I used to laugh whenever I'd see someone cite Agent as a game to look forward to, because it was never officially canceled (at least, as far as I've seen.)

"It's still real to me, dammit!"
