Nintendo's Troll Trouble

Every analyst is entitled to a point of view, and there is certainly some negative Wii U stuff floating around that makes a fair point. However it’s worrisome that so much of the nonsensical stuff comes from mainstream news sources, which will make up many consumers’ primary source of info on the new console. So with that in mind, here’s a few of the more extreme arguments I’ve seen in the last few weeks, and why I think they’re bogus.

The PS3 had the same thing and the solution will be the same thing: The exclusives, not the multiplatform games, will show The Wii's power.

"It can do what last gen consoles can do" will be the only answer from most 2nd and 3rd party developers.

What Nintendo can do to not make the same mistakes as Sony is to make sure they have good publishing tools so that the games will run so well that Wii U will be the platform of choice to design from.

fourtwenty20094996d ago (Edited 4996d ago )

Haters gonna hate.

If nobody was talking about or hating on the Wii U, you'd know Nintendo had done something wrong.

#1 console for 2nd gen in a row, you heard it here first.

My body is ready.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4996d ago (Edited 4996d ago )

lets hope wiiU is like wii right? or gamecube? or N64?

Hicken4996d ago (Edited 4995d ago )

Because there are never any legitimate reasons, right?

Edit: Nintendo gets the "brunt" of nothing. Nothing negative, anyway. The most negativity they get is wondering why they don't get anything negative.

Edit 2:

@maniac: you know what "brunt" means, right? It means the overwhelming majority. Nintendo does NOT get the brunt of negativity around here. Out of the Big Three, Nintendo has quite possibly the most favorable view, particularly here on N4G.

@LevelHead: We're talking about Nintendo, aren't we? If I started talking about Sony, you'd say, "Why don't you talk about the subject at hand, which is Nintendo?" But since I didn't bring them up at all, you just had to, right? Downplay? What Sony negative have I downplayed? Or have I simply expressed my opinion on what I believe to be unfair criticism the company has and continues to suffer at the hands of gamers and gaming "journalists?"

@Ben Grimm: So sad. The best you could do was make a failed attempt at throwing my comment back at me? Not even the same situation, especially considering I'm directly addressing both the article AND the comment I'm responding to. But acknowledging that would invalidate your stance, so you can't do that, huh? Try again, lad.

PopRocks3594996d ago (Edited 4996d ago )

Of course there are legitimate reasons to criticize Nintendo. Just like there are also legitimate criticisms for Sony and Microsoft and just about any publisher of any video game product. Everything is open to criticism.

However there's criticism and then there's incessant hatred and for whatever reason Nintendo seems to get the brunt of it when there are not constant articles about red rings of death or hack attacks.

Microsoft get a free pass cause they're american

ronin4life4996d ago

@Bit
Microsoft gets a free pass here lately because they are seen as largely irrelevant, which itself is not exactly a good thing...

maniacmayhem4996d ago (Edited 4996d ago )

@Hicken
Maybe I'm not reading your post right, or maybe you are being sarcastic but did you say imply that Nintendo gets no negative articles?

Yea,that has to be a sarcastic remark because only a blind man could not notice the negative artciles towards WiiU and Nintendo lately.

BrutallyBlunt4995d ago

Hicken, there is also legitimate reasons for Sony as well. Difference is you will downplay those issues when it's related to Sony.

There have been lots of negative articles surrounding the Wii U and the same people who vent about the negativity surrounding Sony don't seem to share the same views when it's to do with Nintendo and ESPECIALLY Microsoft. Some members on N4G are very easy to spot that are totally biased. It's too bad too since you would think we all share the same interests, videogames.

Ben_Grimm4995d ago

So little content in your comments on Nintendo. Interesting.

I don't even know where to begin addressing this most recent error of yours, except to say that, if you were a dog, I'd roll up an encyclopedia and hit you on the nose with it. I'll wager you were trying to be funny, but... it just wasn't.

He's predicting that the Wii U will sell the most next gen like the Wii did this gen, hence the "2nd gen in a row". I neither agree nor disagree with that, because regardless of who sell the most I think the all three are gonna be close this time around. Kind of like the PS3 and 360 currently are.

All three selling 60-80 million each seems realistic and should be considered successful. Not everyone can sell PS2 or Wii numbers.

Erm, just close your room door before you start, mate.

@fourtwenty2009

i clicked disagree because sales aren't what determines who "wins" a generation, and a good majority of the wii's game library is garbage shovelware.

AWBrawler4996d ago (Edited 4996d ago )

Oh how I love this lame ass argument, because the GameCube had higher rated games than the PS2, and as for as then gen goes, check out the two highest rated games

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer84d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot84d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno84d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay84d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno82d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK82d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
