Gearbox Boss Tells 4K Stubborn Borderlands 4 Users to Go 1440P, Use DLSS Instead of Native Rendering

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford told '4K stubborn' players to switch to 1440p resolution or at least use NVIDIA DLSS in Borderlands 4.

Dude still running his mouth again, not sure how he still has his job all these years lol

Alexious243d ago

He's right on this, though. People not wanting to use DLSS because of AI is ridiculous

Eonjay242d ago

So I feel two ways about this. First, UE5 doesn't give a damn you spent $3000 on you rig. You better break out that image upscaler like everyone else. Sencondly, and alternatively, the artifacts that DLSS create on things like the gun reticle and other ghosting is really egregious. I would prefer to play without image upscaling if its gonna look like that... but if you run native, you are gonna have to run at like 1080p on medium to get a framerate of 60 or better. Its amazing how one game engine is crushing this whole generation.

Two things can be true here.

1. Even with a 5090 I still lean into DLSS.
2. That said, leaning on hardware as an excuse not to optimize better is lazy.

Dudeson243d ago

He's wrong for saying that, gearbox/2k are wrong for him having to say that. But if you're struggling with fps, for gods sakes try out either dlss with frame gen or fsr with frame gen. It helps so much. I'd rather not have to use it, but smooth gameplay is a must.

babadivad242d ago

Frame Gen is horrendous in fast games and useless in slower games.

It doesn't work in weaker GPUs either. It's literally smoke and mirrors to make the FPS counter go up.

DustMan240d ago

Cool. Don't use your card to it fullest. Get ready for up scaling and frame generation for rest of you're pc gaming life. The tech isn't going away. AI isn't going away. It's going to be leveraged into everything.

And what version of DLSS and Frame Gen is everyone using that makes it look like crap? DLSS has improved immensely. FSR not as much. Even then I'll use a AMD frame generation mod w/ dlss. Or lossless FG. To each their own, but my 3080 is still handling 1440p high settings with quality / balanced DLSS. Ever since DLSS went to the transformer model it looks much, much sharper.

how is the performance on PS5? has anyone tried it? I will buy with my friends once its on sale

Sgt_Slaughter241d ago

There's a memory leak, so the game slowly starts to bog down and the only way to fix it is to crash/end the game, then boot it back up. There's no permanent way to stop this, so you will have to do this every time on a longer session.

Inverno243d ago

we went from sub HD/30 fps during the PS360 gen to sub HD/30 fps with fake 4k during the PS4/Xbone gen and then from that we went onto sub HD/choppy fps all masked by AI to output a fake 4k/60 fps. PC gaming has gone to shite while on console the very thing players loathed two gens back is now widely accepted cause fake frames. Y'all folded, and this is the standard now. Ya know what it isn't U5, it's devs taking over half a decade to develop one game and purposely choosing to skip optimization.

Fishy Fingers242d ago

Gearbox need to hire more or better people for optimisation.

But what they need more than that, is someone moderating Randys social posts…..

ever since XIII came out I really loved the cell shaded artstyle in games. I probably wouldn't have tried it if it didn't have such a style like that
