Capcom asks Mega Man fans to 'keep expectations in check'

Mega Man may be turning 25 this December, but don't expect Capcom to give Blue Bomber the same treatment we've come to expect from Nintendo and their plucky protagonists over the past couple of years.

they should at least do a special collection like Square did for FF with as many MegaMan games as possible for $200 or something. =(

I'd buy that. ;_;

RmanX10004995d ago

But that would involve PLEASING people. And we all know Capcom isnt about that. Its about shitty DLC practices and cancelling any game that isnt a fighter.

Lord_Sloth4995d ago (Edited 4995d ago )

This just in: Resident Evil 6 and Dragon's Dogma now fighters!

Seriously though I'm inclined to agree. Just being a smartass.

majiebeast4995d ago (Edited 4995d ago )

Yeah so would i but that better include all the good battle network games aswell and X series.

camel_toad4995d ago (Edited 4995d ago )

I would really LOVE to see a full-fledged-great-developer made Mega Man game. Mega Man was easily one of my favorite franchises in the NES days.

TenkoTAiLS4995d ago

I would LOVE to see something like that, Europe and other PAL areas didn't even get the last collections they had on the Gamecube/PS2, and the handheld collection they had in line for the GBA got canceled.

They should do some sort of collection with all the older games, a history hall type deal, character bios, artwork, maybe even have some old tv ad's or other extra junk thrown in. Like a Sonic Jam type deal or more recently like the Kirby Dream Collection. Have a nice statue made for the set or something.

It would take next to no effort, most companies just get little studios to handle stuff like this and oversee it. They wouldn't even have to make anything beyond some cool menus. And yet i don't even see this happening...poor Megaman. Everyone is wanting to throw him a party, but Capcom has him locked up in a dungeon in the depths of their HQ somewhere.

How DARE someone still like one of our characters, we obviously haven't done a good enough job of ruining him >.<

Remaking XZ, Zero and the like that were on DS and put them on PSN/XBL or a collection disc.

Such should have happened long ago, but then they have issues with making 2D games - unless they were already made or playable for the platform in question.

CrescentFang4995d ago

Well I'm pretty sure Inticreates developed those games, and they love making them 2D games.
ZX Advent had some really nice sprite work imo. I think the 2D issue is really with their fighters.
I wonder what Inticreates is up to now...

Godmars2904995d ago

It more about the fact that sprite animation became cost restrictive with the move to HD. Capcom both didn't want to spend the money, where they eventually did with Street Fighter and Marvel versus Capcom, nor got go the idea/want to do it.

Vegrad4154995d ago (Edited 4995d ago )

Why would any company, gaming related or not, even say something like this to it's customers?

It seemed like Capcom was just bailing on the Mega Man franchise, but now I don't know what to think.

Griffin48714995d ago

All I know is that Megaman has been ****ed over way too many times.

Megaman Universe cancelled
Megaman Legends 3 cancelled
Megaman Online fell off the face of the earth, so cancelled?
Megaman not being in Marvel vs Capcom 3

What a great way to treat the company's mascot. Most recent Sonic games haven't been so great, but at least Sega doesn't leave him in the dust.

Qrphe4995d ago

New Megaman X/XZ/Zero game would be great. But I'd settle with ports or remakes. They may just end up releasing all main series Megaman 1-10 on one package though :/

Capcom says it wants Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney to be 'core IPs' like Monster Hunter

Sorry if you were expecting Bionic Commando.

ZeekQuattro162d ago

Actions speak louder than words. Show me a new Mega Man game that isn't a collection of games I played yesteryear. If they can churn out some kind of RE game every other year they can make a new Mega Man entry. It's not like it's known for its deep stories.

Christopher162d ago

I can see DMC, but the others just weren't built for that without some major adjustments on how they're played.

lukasmain162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

If they make the right choices and right kinds of games, the Mega-Man IP could potentially be made into an animated film or streaming series like the success of Mario and Sonic. Surely that thought may have crossed their minds? Or am I being silly? I mean there is a lot more water to go under the bridge for them to even start considering that. But I used to be a big mega-man fan back in the day. I'd love to see it happen.

shinXseijuro162d ago

It’s being done on purpose just to destroy inafune . It’s some pride stuff on the inside .

blacktiger162d ago

all talk and if they launch it will cost $200

shinXseijuro162d ago

Just like the guys said . I’ll believe it when I see it . Even the shareholders are asking questions regarding Megaman . I don’t want to sound ludacris but I have a strong conviction that the heads at Capcom are purposely holding the Megaman IP down because of their grudge and spite towards inafune on some deeper Japanese honour code stuff . It’s deeper than we think . You can tell something isn’t right .

VersusDMC162d ago

Well i hope DMC is being worked on. Either a remake of 1 or 6 will do.

And bring back Megaman X. Either regular, command mission or make it a Metroidvania since silksong is so popular.

Yeah they’re testing the water with Pragmata ..

shinXseijuro318d ago

Next megaman game will run on Pragmata engine they’re just gonna swap out Hugh and Diana for megaman but they literally function the same . You’ll be able to lock into enemies and uses your thrusters to dodge in all direction and as you advance you’ll get upgrade for double thruster jump , front and back dash etc . Great game

BlackDoomAx318d ago

I fear that current generations don't care about it.

HyperMoused317d ago

Its just a bit dated now...the pic above its the 90's....maybe a slight revamp would be good, now what that would look like would be interesting

Question is always going to be what are you going to do with it? Capcom has burnt mega man fans many a time and trust is low overall so I think a bold new direction may not be the best idea unless it's backed with a sonic mania style project alongside it.

I could see a bold new 3d take on the Willy wars alongside a mania style game being very popular.

Just keep it far away from Live services and loot boxes

DarXyde667d ago

Hear me out.

........I think they could pull off a MetroidVania Mega Man.

Even better: make it Megaman X, but in a pre-X7 style.

Old McGroin667d ago

Or maybe do what Nintendo did with Metroid. Go from a 2D platformer to a 3D game, like Metroid Prime.

shinoff2183668d ago

Sounds like a plan Capcom. Just don't forget the disc. Also I think alot of the mega man base would love to see a return of the rpg

Brazz667d ago (Edited 667d ago )

You know... I realy think a MM game that plays like ratchet and clank can work great! Mega Man can be very light hearted and family friendly, something for everyone If they use a formula similar to Ratchet and Clank, i realy want to see Capcom giving It a try.
