from 05 to 06 novemeber the 360 sold about 9 million+ consoles world wide.. and from 06 to 3rd quarter 07 the firts year of PS3 they sold 10.49 million consoles if you add it all together.. here let me do it for you all just incase you can't add. ^^

Don't forget that when the 360 was launched it had no next-gen competition. When the PS3 was launched it had mediocre games except for Resistance and with a high price tag. It also have major competition with the Wii and the 360, but it still outsold 360 in 2007 despite the release of mega hitters such as Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Halo 3.

With the contrast of sold v/s shipped, it's pretty obvious sony has flooded it's retail channels with ps3's. I expect 2008 ps3 shipped numbers will be alot less when compared to 2007 numbers.

So why would Sony change their forecast to have sold 9.5million by March? This is most likely sold off to retailers, as the above gentlemen suggests, so lets assume that it is. And Sony predict they'll sell 9.5million by next month, so exactly how many do they have sold now? Around 9million?

The 9.5 million is for the period between March 2007 to March 2008. So 9.5 Million since Mar. 2007, not Nov. 2006.

There is probably around 10 million customers that have a PS3 in hand. The site I won't say the name has it around 9.75 mil. Usually they report PS3 numbers in the minimum acceptable range, just from my experience as a member there.

i could take lets say 500k for the 06 shipment not as accurate, but most of those are already sold being 20/60gigs so these numbers look to be pretty accurate. I think MS needs a second revision on what is actually going on in their xbox division. No wonder they charging people for online they cant keep an increasing or steady pace of consoles sold.

Edit: I think price is reason why ps3 is not selling a little closer to wii numbers. The sales of ps2s proves it that people getting what they can afford. Maybe next fall hit nxt price drop 100 dollars then ps3s will hit that zone. Also yea Sony wanted to sell 11mllion units in the 07-08 march range, not total units if you look at numbers they are at 9 about so i guess they didnt see themselves selling another 2 million consoles in 2months. They probably will hit the 11million mark when mgs gta or killzone comes out which ever hits first.

people need to face facts: the Playstation brand is insanely strong, and there are still *MILLIONS of Playstation 2 owners that are simply biding their time with their still supported Playstation 2, until the PS3 drops in price to a point that they can afford. right now, it's at $400. that's not too bad. by the end of the year, i guarantee it will be at $300-$350, and with the games coming out this year, both exclusive and multi-platform, it's going to be really hard to *NOT pick up a PS3. i already own about 10 or so games for my PS3, and i still haven't bought all the ones i meant to last year (ie, Folklore, which i rented, but didn't buy yet, and i traded in games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Virtua Fighter, though i'm thinking of picking them up again), and i owned about 17 or so before trading a bunch in for various reasons.

2008 is Sony's year to lose, but it's looking like there's nothing that can stop the PS3's "Perfect Nuke" line-up of games hitting. other consoles have their AAA games, but they can't really match the sheer *NUMBER and level of variety that Sony's box is bringing to the table this year.

This article is incorrect. They did not sell 10.5 million because the FY06 numbers still reflect units shipped. The author of the article simply added units shipped in FY06 with units sold in FY07.

It's likely under 10 million total and the VGChartz numbers are probably pretty close.
