BD50 costs $50 dollars per disc. Disc burners are expensive, and they also incurr in energy spendings. Buying a new game would be cheaper and more practical. Hell, even if a BD25 game saved you $10-$20 bucks, wouldn't you rather have the original booklet, disc, cage, and concept art or what not? By the time PS3 piracy becomes feasible, there'll be a PS4 around the corner.

Downloading 25GB of data and buying a Blu Ray burner + expensive blank discs isn't worthy yet and wont be till next year.

If they can make a linux version run on the PS3 with full access to all hardware the PS3 might finally become a proper HTPC.

When I see Eboot.bin and TFT's in the titles and such I'am thinking about the PSP.

first and foremost most Hackers are in it to run HOMBREW, like someone said, not necessary Pirated games. Were all aware what can be done on th ePS3 or any console besides just games.

Another step towards pirated games? Lovely. Here's hoping that newer games will install firmware updates without asking thus requiring that each and every one of them be cracked individually in order to remove the feature.

This is for pirating games, period, end of story. It's for people who are stealing and should be put in jail or fined for it.

I doubt that they'll try to burn discs for these, they might just crack the game data and create an iso loader for the hard drive like the PSP. The caveat is downloading those large ass games and storing them on the PS3 hard drive to begin with, even upgraded it's still more trouble than it's worth for me. That and this isn't a PSP, so if you go online with it Sony might just know when you're using a bootleg ISO and we already know they can do mac address bans.

As far as the tiff exploit goes, I'm all for homebrew but I'm not about to miss out on firmware updates. However, I have seen and experience the things that you can do with PSP custom firmware so the possibilities of custom PS3 firmware intrigues me greatly. Dark Alex + PS3 = OMG!! It'd be damn funny if they cracked the system and delivered ingame XMB before Sony.

with the pretty big size of the ps3s hdd and being able to upgrade,im shure well be able to transfer full games onto it from our pc and play em like if they were normal disks.

if that happens then the BD will be be affected, lol dang...

Sony will do anything in their power to make this thing not happen. So, I won't bet on this thing to work.

I'll still buy games. Plus dual-layer BD-R burners are DAMN expensive; add in amount of time needed to download that much data and hack my PS3, etc, etc. Just doesn't seem worth the effort. PSP is, but not PS3.

Man I really wish they would do something that would allow you to play pirated/foreign Ps1/2 games.

Even if they hack the firmware The new games have loaders that can be made to detect these modifications and Sony can and will do firmware updates that render the new firmware requirements for these new games. Always one step ahead of the hackers because after each update or new game the hackers will need to fix the console to support the new encryption.

Sure you can crack an old game but the constant firmware and game boot code updates will make it hard to stay in check.

Even if the console has pure homebrew firmware the games disk manufactures can release games with new anti-piracy code that forces hackers hands each no game released.

MORAL: Someone once told me that you could file a penny to the size of a dime to cheat the soda vending mechanisms. I suppose they thought it was cheaper to cheat people then actually pay more then 5 cents for a 50 cent soda pop.

The one thing they didn't realise is: To resize the pennies cost more then 9 cent in efforts. If you was working mowing lawns for $5 an hour you'd make more then the 9 cents you earn wasting 3 hours sizing stupid pennies. It's kind of funny how some people think their cheating others but in the long run their cheating themselves.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
