Microsoft deploys Agawi cloud gaming. Onlive left sobbing

Microsoft has chosen Agawi to be its partner in delivering cloud gaming services to upcoming Windows 8 devices.

Is this the moment when the cloud gaming business model finally gets acceptance?
Will consumers see this rolled out to the Xbox 720?

Most importantly, who's gonna dance with Onlive now?

ALLWRONG5007d ago

Onlive still has my respect. I think they did well in the land of giants.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

Onlive has been in service 24/7 for 2 years! Also MS using third party again lol.. Sony will do it better then since they can completely tailor make it for ps fans. anyone can use Agawi .

KMCROC545007d ago

I personally think its a better investment to partner with someone than to outright buy them less hazardous & safer on your bottom dollar, as for the tailoring wouldn't they be short changing themselves to one select group instead of a wider group & more profits.

Psychonaughty5007d ago

So if Microsoft buy a company they are damned, if they partner with a company they are damned?!

lonesoul655007d ago

have you seen sony's earnings? i mean losses...then have you seen MS earnings?

GrahamGolden5007d ago

yep only the xbox fanboys will blindly denied it as always

Blankman855007d ago

You are just up SONY's ass today aren't you? Come up for air once in a while, you'll realise how stupid you sound.

Nintendo will take them in one day.

Fishy Fingers5007d ago

Remember the day before Sony made their purchase, when everyone seemed to hate cloud gaming.

zebramocha5007d ago

People hated the idea that cloud gaming would supplant retail and dedicated consoles.

Getowned5007d ago

lol @ Onlive, poor little fella.

GribbleGrunger5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

Wait, didn't MS suggest that they had already been working on cloud gaming before Sony bought Gaikai? Didn't the 360 fans eat that up? So why have they bought something they already had? Could their original claims have been a lie to ease the concerns of their fanbase? Surely not... It would be a first for MS

And clearly MS are worried about the emergence of Android and PSMobile

telekineticmantis5007d ago

they would of been Copying Microsift. Glad, we don't have to have any Idea stealing arguments since Microsoft did it, this time...

GribbleGrunger5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

I personally wouldn't call it stealing. Cloud gaming was inevitable, it's just that Sony have brought that inevitability closer and clearly MS are worried. You have to also take into account that Sony have Xperia and the Vita as well as quite a few PSMobile partners, so MS must do something and quickly. The buzz for PSMobile has resonated with Indie developers and they are going to be the main stay of that particular business model. This is basically MS offering them an olive branch.

But is it too late? How many developers are already committed to Sony's business model and would they be willing to develop two versions of the same game when the very reason they were attracted to PSMobile was that they didn't have to do that. I think MS are going to be throwing a lot of money at Indie devs in the coming months and perhaps dropping the need for Indies to fund their own patches, something Sony have just redressed.

The new war has started and it's going to be interesting. I disagree that it means the end of the Handheld or the Console though. This is an alternative business model, not a replacement. Come on TGS!

ChunkyLover535007d ago

How the hell were Microsoft worried? Their leaked documents pointed towards them offering cloud services on the Xbox 720 by 2015. Its obvious they have been up to something for a while now, and it didn't cost them 400 million to do.

Cloud gaming is something people will have to deal with, Sony's premature purchase was more then likely an attempt to offer some kind of "backwards compatibility" on the PS4. We all know that thing wont have The Cell, which means no PS3 BC. I'm sure Sony wont mind people buying the same games again to stream with their new service though.

zebramocha5007d ago

@chunky You maybe right but it is unclear what Sony plans to power the ps4 with because I've seen rumor that suggest they may retain cell and have a high end powervr chip set or go fully amd,why powervr? this rumor is three years old and on top of that they said this company was to power the vita, which is true ,this kind of adds credence to the rumor.

Blankman855007d ago

It's comments like these that attract all the trolls when SONY's financial reports come out. Nobody feels bad for SONY because their blind fanboys are already harping their successes even before they exist. I'm gonna be hunting you down when PS mobile and Wonderbook do less than you expect. Just to feed you crow.

GribbleGrunger5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

So I say that Wonderbook (could) do better than expected because of the Harry Potter franchise in another thread and suddenly you suggest I mean that the success of Wonderbook will be on a par with PSMObile?! LOLOL!

That's terrible logic. PSMobile could be HUGE (not guaranteed) but more likely than not. Do you fully understand the proposition of PSMobile? It's not locked to a Sony device, it's ready in waiting for any developer who wants to cut costs. They don't have to develop for many platforms, they just have to develop for PSMobile and it appears on any Android device which is PSMobile enabled.

Can't you see the potential there? Wnderbook is on one platform. Yes it could be successfully, but PSMobile could be as big as PS1/PS2/PS3 combined. You're just not seeing the bigger picture. And remember if you post a response to this now or at a later date, I said 'could'. OK?

If it isn't, we'll take it from there, if it is, I'll probably never hear from you again. I expect nothing less from someone without humility. I'm never afraid of admitting I was wrong, how about you? I'm also gracious when I'm right, how about you?

Ben_Grimm5007d ago

"Wait, didn't MS suggest that they had already been working on cloud gaming before Sony bought Gaikai?"

Don't know, but they had cloud services before Sony bought Gaikai.

"Didn't the 360 fans eat that up?"

No, I don't think they did, but coming from a sony fanboy you probably made it up in your head.

"Could their original claims have been a lie to ease the concerns of their fanbase?"

And here we are, the conspiracy I was looking for .... Oooooh, MS lied to us! MS lied to their fans and are cooking babies in their evil kitchen of satan!

You are seriously getting worse and worse as you post more BS.

Sony will do cloud gaming better thats a given. And mark my words they will surprise the gaming world with how well they implement cloud gaming with the help of Gakai into their hardware.

And for the ppl still harping on about Sony not having money this and that and they cant buy this and that.... I see the Gakai acquisition shut you up a bit but even more substantial than that is Sonys standing in Forbes 500. Yes this corporation still has money in the billions!!!!

Educate yourself and stop falling victim to these half informed articles. The last article everyone jumped on was how Sony gaming division lost money in the first quarter of the fiscal year. But if some of you had half a brain you would have seen that last fiscal year they also lost money one quarter but made it up other quarters and for the fiscal year Sony gaming division was profitable. The same will happen this year. Sony gaming division overall is profitable and Gakai will further cement that in the long run.

OC_MurphysLaw5007d ago

"Sony will do cloud gaming better thats a given". Really? How is that a given? It took Sony the better part of 6yrs to get PSN to good place..it started off horribly bad. When it comes to online Sony does not have a sterling track record so I don't see how you come to this conclusion its a given. Gaikai is a great acquisition for Sony but it by no way means that they are a shoe-in for doing cloud gaming better.

Cloud gaming from all I have seen is still very much a wait and see situation for all 3 console makers and pc side, I suspect Valve to stay the leader but EA could emerge as they have the desire to be in that space.

wiiu_peeu5007d ago

Yeah bcus i hate psn so much smh . Listen Sony has done a great job with online services imo and based off my years of gaming exp. (im 33 by the way). Contrary2 what fanboys psn is solid an i play online regularly without any issues so idk what your talking about.

How do i come2this conclusion you ask? Knowing tht when Sony implements something its usually quality from tht same track record you refer too. From hardware, to software, to online services im rarely disappointed . By the way that is why thy acquired gakai bcus the proffesionals behind it know what thy are doing and have already shown its viability.
