GTA V falls within two release windows

The flurry of Grand Theft Auto 5 screens had been a nice tease for fans of the franchise, but the silence since is not welcoming and it is hoped that another GTA V trailer would land soon considering the prolonged wait since the last one. The viral marketing, new images, and other information had led some people to believe a release date would at least be announced soon, but nothing has come to light and some gamers are starting to get frustrated again.

Newegg lets me preorder the game and it claims that the game is coming out on the 31st of December.

DasTier4925d ago

why would anyone release a game imediatly after the holiday season. I call bullsh*t.

Dovahkiin4925d ago

Definitely a placeholder, R* aren't stupid.

TCG_Returns4925d ago

Yeah! Why would anyone release a game during the boxing day sales that last all week after christmas. The most intense shopping week of the entire year!

Totally crazy!

DasTier4924d ago

@TCG_Returns The amount of revenue they would miss out on by doing that is ridiculous, Whether its GTA V or not releasing just after Christmas is a bad idea.

i_da_pappy4925d ago

most places do that it's just a place marker. it's not coming out on the 31st they do that until they have the real date.

gamernova4922d ago

Oh Okay! I found it a bit weird. I was like aren't the buyers going to be drained of all their money after Christmas? haha Thanks.

modesign4925d ago

retailers and sites use Dec 31st as a place holder if the release date is not in the current year. unless your stupid enough to think the game is coming out dec31

Zephyrus344924d ago

@modesign And then it releases on Dec 31st. Oooh the irony. haha just having funs with something that wont happen. :)

danswayuk4925d ago

GTA 5 won't come until 2013, most likely before April.

Shotcalm4925d ago

we gonna find out in a few months..so calm da f**** down.

Tetsujin4925d ago

I still have some games I have yet to even crack open that I bought/downloaded back earlier this year; them taking their time to make the game is released with a low number of issues is perfectly ok with me.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty49d ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan49d ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher49d ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty49d ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies1248d ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH49d ago (Edited 49d ago )

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher50d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake50d ago

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.
