I don't compare it with anything but possibly the Guild Wars game before it, and I agree with all the scores given, people can rate the game low (and that's their opinion if they can make a legitimate reason for it, and some people just won't or don't like the game) and people can rate the game perfect but for me the game is a 9.5/10. Every other MMO, remember, you have to pay to access it every month. This one, for me, I don't feel like I have to dedicate countless hours to it to do a lot of anything especially for PvP/WvW.

It sets itself apart a whole lot more and built upon the first, and even sets itself apart from the first and retains the franchises core identity. It takes what was fun about a lot of other MMOs and places it into this one and makes it much more enjoyable at its price point.

The vistas are sometimes challenging, the jumping puzzles are frustrating yet entertaining, all the classes are hard to pick what to play and the play-style is different than the next one, the crafting takes some time but it definitely changed from what the formula was in other games <3. The abilities, of course you're going to find one or two weapons you like and stick with them, just like the abilities in any other MMO. When would it be you would go out of your comfort zone to use something you don't particularly think will be useful or fit your play-style?

PvP is intense, WvW is exciting and I'm happy you can't just waypoint across the map and that it does take time to get somewhere. You die then you have to form back up with friends or die alone. PvE is varied and I am always interested in what might drop from a creature and getting experience from harvesting everything is flipping awesome :D.

The questing without having to turn in the actual quest is fantastic and some of the hearts give you multiple ways of progressing and completing each and every one. And some of the events that occur are always fun even when they are repeatable :D

The down-leveling I adore because not only can you not mow through lower-leveled content you actually have to put in (some) effort to get what you want and go where you want. It doesn't make it all too easy :)

The forge is pretty cool in a way you can re-roll 4 items for a different one and the transmutation system is lovely (although might have been done before, but not in a launch title) because you can take one item and its stats and put them on another :) And you have the cosmetic upgrades instead of actual stat upgrades so there isn't much of a fall-behind point at any point in time.

The gem shop/trading post is a decent way to get things you want and sometimes for cheap (although I probably will only use it to sell for a while as I just don't like obtaining things without myself coming across it, I'm weird like that). You can exchange coin for gems which is OUTSTANDING which means you can put the time in on getting the coin and get what you want out of it. It was or has been down but it's something new for them and it is being done through an in-game browser type window and at the start of launch it isn't something that is entirely necessary and mandatory.

They have been on top of fixing everything as swiftly as possible and it makes me happy to know they are so dedicated to this game (just like the exploitation of the karma).

That's my opinion. Yes every MMO has issues and the game was and is thoroughly playable as it was and is currently at the moment. Like I said before, at least they are on top of things and trying to make the experience better, and that's probably what makes it perfect :P

WoW is overrated. It's STILL the most talked about MMO and it has been out FOR YEARS. GW2 has barely been released two weeks and people are talking about it being overrated. Just admit that it is a high quality game that doesn't charge you a monthly fee, or in other words, rip you off.

I cant rip myself away from Tera to try GW2. I can not go back to a tab target MMO. Tera's combat is absolutely fantastic.

And whoever above said best graphics in an mmo hasnt seen Tera. Its a beautiful game for an mmo.

It's not overrated. But I don't like it. The combat is so boring and just seems tacked on. :P

Anyway a game that betters existing elements and blends all the best ideas from games into a single game is somewhat new and innovative in some respects.

is the argument it's over rated or that it doesn't deserve a perfect score?

Because I would like to counter a couple things:

enough said. It's better than all of those combined. Which means it deserves the praise it has received.

If I'm not mistaken, everyone tends to use the same 4 to 5 abilities over and over anyways, regardless of having 20 plus available. In fact, with WOW's new change, they turned a lot of skills/abilities on to passive. How much you wanna bet they caught wind of guild wars 2s gameplay and tried to mimic it?
