Tomb Raider a New IP? Wow these guys don't have a clue what new IP means.

DeadlyFire5000d ago

Sadly they probably never played a Tomb Raider game before. That's the thing about corporate news journalists. They don't even study the culture that they work with.

Kran5000d ago

@Mac is OK

Would you consider any Star Wars game as a new IP? I aint sure... :/

WeskerChildReborned5000d ago

Yep, looking forward to both Last of Us and Beyond two souls.

LOGICWINS5000d ago

Watch Dogs owned @ E3, so I'm most looking forward to that!

BootHammer5000d ago

Probably the best E3 surprise =b

GrahamGolden4999d ago

last time i remember the last of us owned watchdogs since it won the most awards and best e3 show

while watchdogs got only 1

mt4999d ago

noting confirm about watch dogs that it is suspicious to get excited for. it could be next gen game which or current gen which would be awesome or PC.

Ni no Kuni
The Last of Us
Beyond: Two Souls

edit: nice job with the whole you know double post thing

BootHammer5000d ago

Ni no Kuni looks great too! Definitely unique...

Relientk775000d ago

Yea, Ni no Kuni is my #1 game for 2013 right now, I cant wait to get it

guitarded775000d ago (Edited 5000d ago )

I hate it when that happens... n4g is bad about not posting or double posting. The authors list is pretty good. I'm also excited for Ni No Kuni and The Last Guardian. But Tomb Raider is NOT a new IP... they are reinventing the IP, but it is NOT a new IP.

Qrphe5000d ago (Edited 5000d ago )

Ni no Kuni is not a "new" IP since it was first released on the DS two years ago.

The Witch and the Hundred Knights is a new IP however (and is already pre-ordered along with Ni no Kuni)

GrahamGolden4999d ago

we dont care of the ds

we want this on a console and play it on our big tv's with better graphics, sound, controls and more content kkthxbb

and btw the ps3 version is getting half game more

rbailey5000d ago

Great List of Titles. The only other title I would add to this list is Remember Me.

BootHammer5000d ago

We are looking forward to that one too =) It's going to be a really cool year with the all the new IP's and next gen buzz. Hopefully there will be some exciting new franchises for the Wii U as well in 2013.

JellyJelly5000d ago (Edited 5000d ago )

Star Wars 1313 is most probably a next gen title. Judging by the demo shown it couldn't be done on current gen consoles. I don't believe it's been announced for any platforms yet and it hasn't even got a release date either. Nice fantasy journalism.

When you have a article title "new ips for" its pretty much a given that Sony's titles will top that list seeing how they make a LOT of new ips during each gen.

Ex-Naughty Dog Dev: Big Studios Are 'Forced' to Hire Like Factories

There’s definitely some truth to this. When teams get too large, coordination starts to outweigh creativity—layers of approval, risk aversion, and tight deadlines can turn bold ideas into “safe” ones. Keeping a team under ~200 people sounds ideal for maintaining clear communication and a shared vision. That said, massive AAA projects also come with huge technical demands and expectations, so scaling up isn’t always avoidable. The real challenge is figuring out how to keep that small-team creativity alive inside big studio structures.

More than that, it's logistically untenable. Inevitably, when teams get too large, how do you keep tabs on accountability? I suspect this massive team size is a consequence of the perfectionism streak Naughty Dog has.

I wish we could have so many people working on something and it turns out great because I'm all for collaboration in spirit - the problem is too many people as part of the larger team and smaller units. Suppose for example that you have too many people in the art department; you will very often come up against fiercely competing visions for how things should look. That competitive vision will cause friction between team members, team doesn't work as a unit, the back and forth can further delay parts that the other departments are waiting for, etc etc.

A 200-person team says, to me, that we need to scale back game development. Even if it means we go back to PS2 era costs and scale, why not? Those games are still great fun, the budgets were in check, and you could literally break the 200-man team into like 10 20-man teams working on different projects.
