PhysX on GeForce Will Bring Amazing Physics Dynamics to Millions of Gamers

SANTA CLARA, CA - FEBRUARY 4, 2008-NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA), the world leader in visual computing technologies and the inventor of the GPU, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire AGEIA Technologies, Inc., the industry leader in gaming physics technology. Even the mighty Intel can't afford Nvidia. This is truly huge... The only physics add in board company swallowed whole.

For a long time everyone said Aegia was worthless. Now from this buy it's proof Aegia was worth alot more than most expected. I can't wait to see how much they were bought out for.

Btw,

nVidia/Aegia is no where on the same scale as
AMD buying ATi.

AMD buying ATi sent shockwaves through the industry. Intel even bought up a GPU company to battle AMD's future CPU w/intergrated GPU in the next few years. Forgot the name of the darn thing.

If only AMD purchased Nvidia instead of ATI. Now I have to go the Nvidia/Intel route instead of Nvidia/AMD that I've been doing for years :(

AMD would have bought Nvidia if they could afford it. Nvidia is no small company like ATi was prior to the purchase. AMD also got wholesale on that purchase too. ATi through the years has pretty matched Nvidia and surpassed them a few times in performance (remember 9700pro) but never was anything close to Nvidia's net worth.

Well hopefully Nvidia can finally kill off this stupid seperate physics card idea. I mean did anyone take the physics card thing seriously !!!! . Not sure if I am a big fan of Intel taking over Nvidia but then I am old fashioned.

A PPU enables incredible acceleration of physics with little to no impact on the game's performace. Clearly you don't know what you're talking about.

Physics are extremely important to games now. That is irreversible and undeniable.

What Charmers said is true. Nobody in the Dev market took the PPU seriously. Thats why only a couple Devs even made anything that supported it. Nvidia's and ATi's solution was to have 3 - 4 video cards. Two in SLI or X-fire configuration and the third pushing physics. The third card didn't have to match the two cards in the X-fire config. It could be one of the lower (cheaper) model cards.

I have to see what AMD/ATi's answer to this will be. Maybe they can intergrate Havok's software...

That was another huge thing... Devs said Aegia's PPU couldn't do anything more than what Havok software could do. This is obviously false or Nvidia wouldn't have bought them.

Havok was bought by Intel a while back rendering the GPU guys (AMD & Nvidia) multi-card configs useless.
This is why Nvidia snapped up the Ageia guys (Gives it serious advantage - GPU card with 3D, sound & physics anyone? :-D)
All this leaves AMD is a bit a muddle, as theres no havok and no other physics engine it could buy (to my knowledge)
I mean AMD might have bought it, if not for its financial trouble
