Dishonored: 6 ways it will save gaming

First-person gaming is a much-maligned beast. And rightly so – the genre’s getting lazy, homogenous, restrictive and sequel-obsessed. Enter Dishonored, a triumphant ‘screw you’ too all those conventions. Let’s look at how Arkane Studios is righting the industry’s wrongs, one at a time.

Gaming does not need saving. Stop talking crap.

not clicking each page sorry

In order to save something it would need to be in need of being saved. And if then to say that one game can somehow save a billion dollar industry is fallacy.

Hicken5021d ago

If the billion dollar companies in that billion dollar industry are in danger, then that billion dollar industry is also at risk. At lot of factors are at play, but from an economic standpoint, gaming is in a bit of a decline. But economic loss isn't the only way the game industry can fail, and thus not the only way it could potentially need saving.

Stagnation is something the industry could need saving from: becoming overrun by the same themes, trends, and genres would be excessively boring. And it's not inconceivable: the number of copycats of gaming's most popular franchise- Call of Duty- is growing, and eve other established titles are becoming more influenced by it.

Corporate greed is another thing that could doom the industry. Overpriced- and overabundant- DLC, on-disc DLC, online passes, the push to eliminate the used market, etc.

You have no idea what you are saying though. I am an Economist I look at the numbers. And numbers show growth in all sectors including F2P, Mobile, and PC.

All that other crap I don't care about.

if you dont care about all the other crap, then youre a poor economist.

May the creator be used to play Fifas and Kinect? I don't remember the need of save gaming, and not with those reasons. I'm still sceptic for this game, and I will remain until I take my hands on a demo or something.

He needs to stop being a game journalist or gamer if he thinks gaming needs saving

One of my biggest art heroes. His work and vision were truly one of a kind, and he’s been a huge inspiration to my own work. Such a heartbreaking loss.

Remember seeing Dishonored for the first time when it released, fell in love with the art style straight away, so striking! And because of it, still holds up and will for years to come, RIP Viktor

JEECE461d ago

Yep I remember seeing some of the earliest concept art for Dishonored and hearing that the art director of Half-Life 2 was working on it and being excited.

And you are absolutely right, each of those games (HL2 and Dishonored) has a distinct art style that stands the test of time.

Relientk77461d ago

So sad to hear this. I absolutely love the Dishonored series and love the world and art style. It looks great and unique. I'm still hoping for a Dishonored 3

RIP Viktor love your work

Ethereal461d ago

Damn... Dishonored has such amazing art. RIP.

Arkane Co-Founder Says Dishonored and Prey Fans 'Will Be Happy' With His Next Game

WolfEye Studios president and co-founder of Arkane Studios Raphaël Colantonio has said Dishonored and Prey fans “will be happy” with his new studio's next game.

Marcus Fenix654d ago

Can’t wait to see what they’re working on

Relientk77654d ago

If it's something like Dishonored, then I am totally here for it.

TheNamelessOne654d ago

Let's hope. Their first game, Weird West, really wasn't my thing.

Miacosa654d ago

Ouch, already placing a sales cap on this is potentially bad as these games never seem to sell all too well. Hopefully the budget is in check so no one gets laid off after launch.

Psychonaut85654d ago

Fuck yeah. Even if it’s just a spiritual successor I want more titles like Dishonored in terms of art style, design and gameplay

Avowed's director says they "don't believe in living in fear" after Microsoft closed studios

"As a developer - and as a player - it's always sad and it always sucks to see studios close and devs lose their jobs.
