Personally I see my self playing Resistance 2 more, Resistance:FOM was amazing but with more developing time, PS3 experience and 8-player co-op Resistance 2 will be absolutely stunning and thus most probably I will play it the most.

I loved the original Killzone (yeah I know im in the minority), the mood was what sold me. Never played Resistance, but it looks awesome.

This article demonstrates that PS3 has everything you need this year. Regardless of which one you prefer, they are both exclusives to the PS3 so you will be able to get it. MP or Visual goodness, wherever you heart is at the PS3 will deliver.

at relatively equal stages in their development. KZ2 was shown in motion though. There was a lot more going on in KZ then one can tell from a still of RFOM2. I mean even the power cords were affected by the wind in KZ2, and the animations and fluid level progresion were top notch too. Not to mention the attention to detail, each face of the soldiers were different and the poly counts looked through the roof. It's hard to find jaggies. Gameplay wise, RFOM has proven itself while KZ2 has yet to do so though. Right now I think it's a toss-up. Both titles look great and both are equall on my want list.

KZ2 will be epic! mark my words! Guirella are a bunch of a very knowledgable programmers, they have stunning engine for KZ2. I love resistance, but comeon guys remember TGS2007 demo the maps were huge and details are breath taking! RFOM2 is a distant 2nd in my opinion.

Hopefully Killzone 2 is taking longer to come out not because of poor management, but because they are developing a multiplayer similar to RFOM2.

People are writing it off way way to early, i think that it will blow everyone away, Killzone 2 will show everyone what next gen gameplay and visuals can be achieved on Ps3. Sony basically have every 1st party studio working with GG for this, theres no way it will mess up

We won't know till we actually play the games in reality.

But Killzone seems to have the better atmosphere, darker and more realistic. And also I like the idea of more tactical gameplay like taking cover.

I actually think it's pretty one sided in favor of Killzone 2, unless the game doesn't live up or something.

The only thing that will be bad about Killzone 2 is that Rico doesn't have his big BAD-ASS gun anymore.

It's absurd at best that these two games have to come out a mere 2 months, if that, apart. Sony is firing blanks here... Sorry. They're tossing both out to market and hoping one is a sure fire win for them. That's all there is to it.

Killzone 2 should've been released over the summer (a summer blockbuster) and Resistance should have been prepped for Christmas season... All there is to it.

Sony is doing this out of desperation at best. They saw that Bio Shock and Halo 3 both did well, Mont's apart, last year and now they will try to replicate that.

Sony should look elsewhere for their gains. All I'm saying. I love Sony, god knows that. I just don't always agree with them on everything... With that said, Resistance 2 is going to get more play in my house. That's for sure. I'll buy Killzone 2... but I don't think I'll be playing it online or anything. I'll go thru it a few times and put it aside. Resistance still gets plenty of play from me. That says something about Insomniac and the game as a whole.

with killzone 1, guirella was a SERPERATE studio and they werent brought by sony yet. with sony backing this game up all the way and other studios helping, it would be a shame if this game didnt blow everyone away.

and then think, look at the position sony was in b4..........they could easily allow guirella to release a mediocore game and not care but now they have something to prove and thats with KILLZONE 2.

For Killzone 2. I was disappointed in RFOM1, but I am willing to give it a second chance with 2 since RFOM was a launch title.

Anyway, I'll get both unless Resistance plays too much like the first. lets get something straight, I loved the first, but I realize I liked it for the same reasons I liked the original Halo: There was nothing else to offer. Compared to todays games, like CoD, Unreal, and Half-Life, the first is a very basic game. Still tons of fun, but there's no depth.

If R2 doesn't look to add some more strategy, variables, and depth to the formula, count me out. The graphics are already as good as anything else out there, stellar improvement in that department, but now I'd like either a demo or some vids.

Killzone looks to have a nice dose of pretty much all that I could want, so that's a definite purchase for me unless they drastically change things.

Anyone counting out Killzone 2 at this stage is a fool. We basically know what Resistance 2 is at this point, not much more can be announced cause almost every major bullet point was revealed right away. Only thing left for Resistance 2 is footage and after that we'll know everything. Killzone 2 on the other hand is still a HUGE mystery. So anyone quick to say it will fail would be an idiot in my eyes.

Still buying both day 1. So it doesnt matter to me.

so for me it's a no brainer but at the same time I thought Resistance was a fantastic game, especially for a launch title. I think there is practically no way that the 2nd wont follow suit. I'm really hoping in Resistance 2 we get to fly those Saber looking jets in the hanger, that would be awesome. Either way, both are coming home with me.

As for Killzone, a lot of people put it down without having actually played it. The atmosphere of the game was always top notch, the story great, the Helghast even better. A lot of Killzone's problems were from the fact that it was originally designed as a PC game and Guerrilla at the time was very inexperienced with the PS2 hardware. Simply put, the game wasn't properly coded (at least not 100%) for the hardware and that's why it had the problems it did. Almost all of the problems that Killzone did have were from the technical end. In fact it got to the point where the music, some dialog, and even some AI scripts had to be chucked out as they were eating up to much memory.

With the PS3 and Killzone 2 these limitations should no longer be a problem plus Guerrilla has designed this game from the ground up on this hardware, with a huge backing financially from Sony and help from nearly every Sony affiliated studio, the sequel, I think, will totally rock. I know I'm excited and from a technical standpoint, it's very hard to argue that it isn't one hell of a beautiful looking game. No more linear paths, a multiplayer (although yet to be revealed) that was been up and running since 2006 (where as the original's was only tacked on in the last few months of development). I could go on, but I won't. Basically, if anyone doesn't trust GG to make a great game, I'd say look at the improvements from Killzone 1 to Liberation (even though its not 1st person) the core gameplay problems have all been fixed up and with the effort going in to Killzone 2 we should see a much bigger leap than that into next-gen.

as much as i hate fanboyism, i can understand comparing 360 exclusives to PS3 exclusives. it's fun for the most part, when both parties aren't being obnoxious.

Resistance is just awsome. I mean the first one kicked a$$. Insomniac just knows how to put out quality games. Seeing what's in store for R2, man how could you not pick this game up. Now Killzone 2, I would just pick up this game based on the hype and quality if I didn't know what it was already. But being an owner of all the Killzone's I think it will turn out pretty good. The first one was good, not great, but good enough to hook me. Liberation is just awsome on the PSP, and the online is really good. Now if they can just add a little from each and something new to the genre, we definetly have AAA qaulity here. So I can't pick just one, but I sure can play both. Play beyond, way beyond!!

My only concern about KZ2 is how tight lipped they've been about the game. Other than that, why would you possibly debate about picking both games? If money is an issue then you should start saving from now.

Last year it was PS3 vs. 360 games. This year it's only PS3 vs. PS3.

Killzone on the PS2 was hampered not by the game itself, but the *HARDWARE the game was running on.

in short, Guerrilla Games was too ambitious for the Playstation 2 hardware to handle at the time. personally, i think if they were to go back to Killzone, and do another go at it on the PS2, the result would be more stable. the atmosphere of the first game, the enemies (Helghast are some of the coolest enemies in gaming, really), and the narrative was solid. the gameplay was good, but hampered by framerate issues (again, due to hardware limitations of the time).

Killzone: Liberation on the PSP was *GREAT, however. it was a fun, 3rd person shooter, with a cool story. Guerrilla worked within the limitations of the handheld, and produced a quality game. more than quality, really.

as for Killzone 2, considering that Guerrilla has learned it's lessons with Killzone, and applied them Killzone: Liberation, i'm expecting Killzone 2 to be more polished. Guerrilla's ambitious design is better suited for a powerful console like the Playstation 3.

Guerrilla Games is full of some talented folks, who love making games. to me, that's just as important as a 100% rock-solid pedigree. they have heart, and they have know how, and when you have pretty much *ALL of the internal Sony development houses sharing knowledge and technology with each other, the result will be better products overall.

oh well...I wonder if they will come out around the same time...

I really hope Killzone 2 lives up to the hype. I really do. But what good games has Guerilla ever made? KZ2 could easily disappoint everyone. As for RFOM 2 on the other hand, the first resistance was an awesome game, and Insomniac is an awesome developer with a stellar track record. My money is on resistance 2 being the better game. I would say that both of them will kill Halo 3, but COD4 already killed Halo 3 and is using it's skull as a wine goblet.

I hope its killzone. It's been in production longer! Resistance is going to be good-no doubt. As of right now, we know very little about killzone even tho they showed a demo of a level, but they have been working long on this game, so I have higher expectations on killzone than resistance.

Even though it probably doesn't make sense seeing that Resistance 2 takes place in the US, I sure hope they bring back the Somerset MP map with updated graphics.
I spent many of hours playing (pwning) ctf on that map.
And as for KZ2, I've never played the original so I really dont know what to expect, it looks like its shaping up to be a pretty good FPS though.

More importantly both companies need to deliver superior gameplay this time.K2 and Resistance were fun games but nothing like the incredible experiences FPS can be - very few games manage this.Love the great graphics but it takes more lets not forget.

not bad for effectively a new - MODERN - franchise.

R2 should beat KZ2 on gameplay without a doubt. Insomniac has far more experience with great gameplay than Guerilla Games.

But the thing is KZ2 can easily be made a truly spectacular game even with average graphics:

* co-op
* split screen
* online MP
* useable buggy, tank, aircraft - ie. remember Warhawk
* devilish combatant AI.
* map creation/modification - user created content.
* destructible environments
* sympathetic characters with a GUNG-HO attitude like GeoW

Nothing revolutionary about all these things but if Killzone 2 had them all then it would would be FPS Nirvana.

R2 will obviously improve on R1 due to the class that Insomniac is.

Kz2 will clearly be better than KZ1 but I'm concerned about GG's credentials. Not so Sony whom I'm hoping will bring in significant input/help from Naughty Dog & Incognito developers.

I would submit two games that I know you are familiar with COD4 and Gears of War, both are not among the most colorful and that is because they are attempting to set a certain tone. If you ever have taken time to look at footage from Iraq or or any other war zone, you will notice that the colors tend to be dirty and subdued, its called the art style.

Games like Halo apparently have a different goal in mind and thus the visual representation of colors reflects that.

It is strange that a 360 lover such as yourself would come in a PS3 thread talking about FPS and war torn streets being boring when your system is arguably defined by the very games you attempt to diminish in these comments. i'm suffering from FPS burn-out to be honest. Played a tonne of them last year and i'm kind of lacking a great deal of enthusiasm for them. However, i wasnt the biggest fan of RFOM (still havent finished it because i got somewhat bored), so if i was only to buy one of the two i'd buy KZ2.

For me both have reasons NOT to get them, (lacklustre originals in both cases - my opinion, nothing more, so dont start any stupid personal attacks please) so i'm not all that excited by either. Looking forward MUCH more to MGS4, Splinter Cell Conviction and Ninja Gaiden 2 tbh :O)

I will defo be getting Resistance2 ... played Resistance1 and loved every second of it ... so can't wait for number 2

Have never played KillZone1, so not sure about this game. It looks pretty good but my gripe would be that it looks really dark. I know that this sets the mood but its like films, I really hate dark ones where you can hardly see what is going on lol

I think that Killzone 2 will be a good fps in singleplayer, as Killzone 1 was too. Unfortunately it also had a lot of bugs, which have to be corrected for this game. I hope they have a better framerate this time around, and will be extremely impressed if they can can achieve the same in multiplayer also. I agree with GamePro, since we know nothing of the multiplayer, it`s hard to say much about it except that the first Killzone`s multiplayer wasn`t good at all (havn`t played it online so maybe it was better there). With Guerillas history of games, i think it will be better to try to keep the hype for the game down at this point. It will only do more damage to keep hyping it beyond realistic expectations (a great looking Call of Duty 4 type of game, not a bad thing i might add),trust me guys.

Resistance will also be great in singleplayer, but i think Killzone will have a better story and enjoyment here. In multiplayer i think the game will really shine though. Imsomniac always delivers great games, so i`m not concerned at all about Resistance 2 in either regards though.

Both games are coming out on the PS3. Bad news for MS when comparisons like this are being done, but for one console.

I already decided to reserve them both...with Resistance 2 being the obvious first day buy b/c I bough the first one and love it, Killzone 2 will be a day wait just to make sure it doesnt flop, in which case it will stay in Gamestop so I can have money to buy FF13 and FF versus 13, also NCAA Football 09 and NBA 2K9(hopefully the cancellation of college hoops 2k9 will be false and I'll get that too)....but i'm planning on owning all 6 and those are the only games I have slated on my 08 list to buy(I already bought Burnout Paradise). 7 brand new games = $420 on video games this year, and I want to spend a little on some stuff on PS Home also. I can't wait to see hat KZ2 and R2 have in store for Home, I already figured the sports games will have trophies due to NBA 2k8 having trophies to unlock for doin special things but theres nothing to do with them....maybe put them in your PS Home...

But my only real problem is the release date of each. I highly doubt Sony would release BOTH games at the same time. That would be a Terrible choice. IF ANYTHING i'd let R2 hit first in SEPT. then During Christmas Launch KILLZONE2. And Advert the hell outta it.

They are both Benchmark titles on the PS3. or WILL be. So releasing both in a 2 month span wouldnt be so hot. Even a 2009 release of KIllzone would be smarter.

So why do they have to be MADE to compete? Both will definitely get their sales $$$.

It really comes down to a matter of what the person prefers. Do they want something closer to realism or something closer to fantasy?

If you want something closer to realism, you'd pick killzone2

If you want something closer to fantasy, then resistance 2 is your pick.

Either way, no matter what the preference, true fans of fps games WILL find a way to own both. Or at the very least play both.

Well Killzone 2 should at least have 16 player online mutiplayer like Killzone 1 had. I doubt that KZ2 will have 60 players online though, if I'm wrong then I will eat my hat.

Resistance2 is something you can count on, a real AAA game. Killzone2 is some kind of crazy train wreck / tech demo, the result of trying to live up to its original target renders at the expense of everything else. I really hope this isn't true, but if one of them is going to dissapoint...

I enjoyed R1 more than KZ1 so if can only buy 1 i think it would be R2. I really like to know a bit more about Nate's story. KZ2 will be a graphical masterpiece and that alone to be brutally honest is enough for get me to buy it.

I have them both reserved and payed for already. Now what is there for my 360 to look forward to hummmm. You will have to give me a while to come up with something.

hmmm interesting. i cant say which one is better since i havent seen or heard anything bout resistance 2 but im getting both anyways. this must be very amusing for sony. they just have to sit there and not worry bout a thing since its all coming to their console

man this awesome im spending tons of cash on these ps3 games this year its going to be a great year for us ps3 owners. I'm so happy their are a lot of ps3 supporters out there now. I had 4 360s they all broke bought a ps3 last June 07 and got flamed for it cause it wasnt doing well. now look at ya ps3 you are rolling hard and my ps3 works flawlessly and looks sexy as hell as the day i brought u home. So long xbox 360 you were the friend that never was. I put u to the test on need for speed most wanted and u would lock up on that last race to keep from the #1. we had to part ways and now im seeing the truth lol

Chile...what is this mess yall talking about? What make you think that Resistance is a "Halo killer"? And why is people still looking for a "halo killer"? Halo series is over and done with, if theres another great FPS...then its just another great FPS. Why folks feel the need to make a particular game better than the other? Gurl, if you like the game...then f'k it! Last thing sony need to be worried about is a "halo killer"...more like they need a system seller.

Bring back ape escape

Sony really does need another mainline shooter franchise. They pretty much gave up after the PS3 generation, and I'm really surprised they haven't tried at another high-profile, singleplayer-centric shooter; even if it weren't Killzone or Resistance.

I miss Killzone while I can see why they still do Horizon has some really good things but I do think that Horizon is overrated imo.

Or how about studios focus on projects that they feel passionate about, and not be forced to make something they have little interest in. It shows in the final product.
