Seriously, who is to judge? Just because some people can enjoy the pleasures that a child can, does that make them a child? It is true men are less motivated to become burdened with "real life" problems then in the past, but i would say that's a good thing.

And Wile E. Coyote, you couldn't have summed it up better. In this day and age women ask for more respect, and with that comes responsibility, but can't seem to handle the consequences when they bite off to much to chew. If you can't handle acting like a man, then you won't be treated like one.

Just because we don't want to get married and have children at the age of 20 doesn't mean that we don't do anything with our lives. I'm 23 years old living with my girlfriend in NYC in our own apartment. Both of us have decent jobs and we are planning our future. I do game a lot but that's not the reason I'm not married and don't have children. I'm just not ready! Times change...people change. People live longer and healthier lives than they did a 100 years ago...so what is wrong with enjoy your life instead of working night and day so you can make ends meet for your family???

I would just advise that idiot who wrote the article to move on and get a girlfriend himself!

Do they ever factor the average death age has increased in this kind of research? Theoretically the increased "child man" age reason could actually be that the age to become a "man" has actually increased. Say the average age of death goes from 70-85, they're too stupid in their research to include those 15 years, say those years come between the age of 20-30, whose to say how those people are to spend those year's of their life. I really hate psychologists that are just trying to find some easy topic to cash in on without really finding what the true problems out there really are

So it's pretty obvious that That's most likely the real reason so many individuals are lacking what this author defines as traditional male and female roles, a definition that's actually far too subjective. Another reason might also be that "Procreation" isn't the number one goal for people who are either supporting their own direct families, striving to succeed in their career, accomplishing higher eduction, or just flat-out don't want kids.

Sure, some individuals are forever immature, but this is going to be a constant fact of human society since one's maturity level is fairly independent of age. This article comes off as a poorly researched and poorly thought out.

videogames is obviously the place to dump crap these days. Hell a guy can´t just be plain psycho and kill someone anymore without the finger being pointed towards videogames. And now this. Isn't there a slight possibility that a man chooses to pursue other things in life than marriage and children without it having anything to do with the fact that he enjoys the occasional hour with a videogame. Are we to call leonardo da vinci childish because he never married or had any children and that he prefered to spend his time painting (a child activity)?
I wonder what the reaction would have been if a man had written an article on how women these days are less into the idea of marrying and having children in their 20s and then calling them childish because of it.
Dear Kay Hymowitz, you can't use your own goals in life as a standard of success. People want different things and their hobbies are not to be blamed. And BTW, Child-man. In the future I whould appreciate if we could refrain from the name-calling. I don't know I just find it a little... Childish.

...for those who seem to want something to b!tch about. Truth be told, gamers are some of the most responsible people this world has right now. I'm 25, been married for 3 1/2 years, work full time, (anywhere from 40 to 55 hours a week) and I game anywhere from 10-20 hours a week given my schedule. I started at 3 years old with an NES and grew up with them in my life, the standard game fare being good vs evil, helping shape the person I've become.

I also knew people who thought gaming was for losers and nerds and such...and most of those people are now either addicted to some kind of drug, are known criminals, or became the very losers they thought I was, with most of them being almost 30 and still living at home, haven't had a job in a few YEARS. Granted, I said MOST of them, so don't start with that "generalization" crap.

My point being, people are attacking video games because they are an easier target than music nowadays. It's an easier target than the drunk step-father who molests his step-kids, or the irresponsible Mom who whores herself out for Meth when she should be buying food for her kids. Or the "perfect" suburb parents who blow their kids' college funds on that last unplanned trip to Vegas, effectively damning the rest of their kids' lives.

I've noticed that there are many more inmportant things to discuss other than if us 20 and 30-somethings are playing videogames, because the way I see it, I'm at home, with my wife, playing games. Instead of being out at the bar, drinking myself into a stupor, spending money I don't have, or dealing drugs, or robbing convienience stores for money for my next fix, or even worse having kids I don't want, only to have them and become a burden on society by forcing the government to pay me every month to raise a kid I didn't even want. THESE are the people that need to be attacked by the media, because they're a MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM than any gamer EVER has been.

Why is this bastard article being brought up again? It says in this article that we men have to "grow up" which is just another sham tactic. So women are more mature are they? Hmm... let's see women are more prone to impulse spending which results in many of them getting into debts simply because of shopping and buying too much crap. Women act far more like men now competing in belching, farting contests getting completely smashed and swearing every second while acting "hard" yep pretty mature not.

You want to know why these stupid articles keep coming out? Because a lot of men have wizened up to the fact that having kids and getting marriage is not all that great. We all know that this is what most women dream about though, so they want to try and sham guys into ditching their bachelor status and get married, have kids and in most cases lose their freedom. Also no-one has to do these things anymore because the world's population is not about to die out anytime soon.
