Sleeping Dogs: A Multiplatform Game Done Right on PC

1Up:

Far too often, PC versions of multiplatform games are treated as an afterthought. Some missing features, like a lack of mod support, are unfortunate but excusable, even though publishers may be costing themselves sales that mods could generate -- see DayZ and ARMA II for an example of what's possible. Other omissions or decisions are more objectionable. Whether it's Ubisoft routinely delaying PC versions so they come out weeks or months after the console versions of a game (see: any Assassin's Creed game, Driver: San Francisco, Call of Juarez: The Cartel...), poorly adapted controls (Resident Evil 4 lacking mouse support comes to mind), or simply failing to advantage of the capabilities of PCs (Dark Souls unfortunately doesn't make use of the platform to fix its framerate issues), there are many ways in which PC gamers are subjected to lesser experiences than they ought to be.

Oh dear please, "cry me a river", 97% of the time PC owners get the better end of the deal, it cant be win win all the time, id LOVE to be able to run Fallout, Skyrim or Just Cause 2 at max settings with mods and better frame rate

I have to settle for what i get unfortunately

And look, YOU get the better version of Sleeping Dogs, i dear im gonna cry myself now

Yeh at first a multi-plat on the PC can be crap! Low Res graphics, poor control, lack of customizations, BAD CPU/GPU optimizations etc. but in the end Mods, AMD/Nvidia Drivers, patches, can turn a CRAP port into something pretty darn good.

like these few titles that ran like crap at first on the PC but with a little work offered up something very very special:

Skryrim = Icenhancer graphics mod plus *FREE DLC plus a Total Conversion MOD in the works

GTAIV = Icenhancer graphics mod plus a Ship LOAD of very good MP mode mods, real cars, clothes, etc..

Just Cause 2 = just opened up the Beta for 1000 player MP mode for PC. Total surprise for PC Gamers.

Fallout = High Textures and *Free DLC plus a few good mods.

Not all multi-plats that make it to PC get this royal treatment but the ones that do more than make up for the ones that don't.

* PC DLC is usually free but many multi-plats have been charging for DLC so I just wait for the Game of The Year Edition or Enhanced Edition which usually sales for $29.99 and you get all the DLC for Free! *

It's pretty much true that consoles hold back PC and PC usually gets a console like port. I mean most developers focus on console gaming cause it's more popular than PC gaming.

If most developers focused on PC gaming more than Console gaming then i think their would be tons of beautiful, awesome games.

Btw, i'm not dissing console gaming, i'm a console gamer turning into a PC gamer soon because i want to have better experiences in gaming.

Man u always are so nuetral lol!

I play all systems and pc. Mostly pc because ATM its a full gen beyond current consoles, BUT ps3 exclusives have really shown what games can be. Pc gets a lot of support but usually the main devs are console first! We pc crowd don't take crap. I it's a bad port we punish you. Generally. We don't just take it. We have a standard and if you don't meet it we won't pay you. Plain a d simple lol.

Waiting in the console fangirls to start flaming.

Im glad that Square Enix always opitimizes their games, all their games running great on my hardware.

kevnb5057d ago

most games are done well on pc, but its the ones that arent that stick out.

CernaML5057d ago

Whooaaa this looks good... Definitely gonna get this for the PC. My GTX260 probably won't be able to push these types of visuals but it sounds like it'll look damn good anyway.

Plagasx5057d ago

I love that Square Enix always has well optimized games for PC.

Both Deus Ex HR and Just Cause 2 runs beautifully on my setup.

I Wish More People Played Sleeping Dogs

United Front Games developed a really unique experience with Sleeping Dogs, and it still holds up. Unfortunately, any hope at a sequel hinges on it getting more popular almost a decade later.

The game is on sale right now for $5 on PlayStation!

JunonZanon296d ago

One of the best open world games around, the story was really well made

JBryant0619296d ago

I wish we could have fought the Pork Bun Man in the game!

Rebel_Scum296d ago

Brah, what he’d ever do to you? You not a real man!

It is a great game and I would love a sequel.

Shang-Chi Star Simu Liu Wants to Develop Sleeping Dogs Sequel and Movie

Shang-Chi star Simu Liu is working to revive the Sleeping Dogs movie and hopes its success could lead to a long-awaited Sleeping Dogs sequel.

ZeekQuattro499d ago

Please do. One of my favorite games from that gen. A man who never eats pork bun is never a whole man!

Inverno499d ago

Square has their own GTA and they haven't bothered making a sequel. Yet they're wasting money on nfts and live service crap.

Inverno499d ago

Gotta be more specific. Did it sell well to Square and their unrealistic expectations? Probably not. Did it sell well and garnered enough praise to deserve a sequel? Yes. They also bought the rights from Acti when it was True Crime so they must've thought it was worth it at the time so idk why they've let the IP die out.

ZeekQuattro499d ago

According to Square Sleeping Dogs, Hitman Absolution and even Tomb Raider Reboot bombed on varying levels. They all dropped around the same time. All sold well enough but Square and it's lofty expectations got in the way. I remember Square was mumbling that TR sold 3 million + in a month.

CrimsonWing69499d ago

I’d be down if he doesn’t shove his ideals in it.

AndrewM499d ago

As long as the game fits YOUR ideals eh? Whatever happened to artists creating what artists want...

CrimsonWing69499d ago

Hey, they can create whatever they want. I literally said “I’d” be down if he doesn’t shove his ideals in it.

Whatever happened to consumers being allowed to voice what they want in a discussion forum, eh…?

What a game Sleeping Dogs is.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil790d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai790d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing69789d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle789d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal789d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa789d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal789d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

boing1789d ago (Edited 789d ago )

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.
