Dark Souls PC Preview: The Devil's Bargain

Since its debut on consoles last year, it's the parts unknown about Dark Souls' grim, ethereal world that have made it so compelling to explore and discuss. The decaying medieval castles, the foggy woodland acres and the webbed catacombs that form its underbelly are woven together by a network of pathways the mesmerising extent of which is only truly revealed by the end of the game. It remains an astonishing looker in places too - and a real challenge, in true series spirit, for those that have the mettle to play by its firm-but-fair rules.

Good preview.

I cannot wait to be beat down by this game!

"Dark Souls PC uses the very same 1024x720 internal framebuffer as the console versions, regardless of which resolution has been set in the menus"

Sounds like the worst port possible...

Are they trying to get their game pirated? I mean come on....there's a demand for it you could Atleast make it right....theyve had nearly a year...

Menchi5013d ago

I think it was one of the big reasons they were so hesistant. They aren't PC devs, and never have been, so of course they're going to suck at it.

Biggest waste of time trying to port it to a system they don't know so it can be criticised to the end and back for their failures.

DragonKnight5013d ago

Oh yes, because piracy is justified right? Nevermind that it's an amazing game, if the visual fidelity doesn't measure up to PC fanboy standards then it deserves to be pirated.

And they call themselves gamers.

iNcRiMiNaTi5013d ago

@Menchi
If they were sure they were going to suck at it they could've at least given it to a more experienced team to handle the port. Now they'll most likely lose interest from this and miss out on potential sales

Sheffield says "[A new Bloodborne game won't] happen unless From Soft decides they want to do it"

Brandon writes: "I could find you 10 companies that have pitched a bloodborne sequel, spinoff, or remake, including my own. It's just not going to happen unless fromsoft decides they want to do it."

Benjaminkno58d ago

Everyone was criticizing Sony for not pushing for the BB remake. Turns out they gave it the green light. The original still holds up really well

STARS58d ago

Man this just fucking sucks, I respect Miyazaki and Shohida's wishes, but Bluepoint would have been the perfect studio to take on a project like a Bloodborne remake. It's still an absolute masterpiece, but the performance and frame pacing could easily be solved on the current hardware now.

Former Sony president Shuhei Yoshida reveals why the original PS ultimately led to Bloodborne

Sony's bold entrance into the console market back in the '90s heralded the use of CD-ROMs instead of cartridges, which convinced several companies to jump on board the PlayStation train. It turns out FromSoftware was one of those companies lured in by the appeal of discs.

Elden Ring Nightreign "performed well beyond initial expectations," FromSoftware parent company says

Elden Ring Nightreign, a weird and experimental multiplayer-led title that FromSoftware basically built in a cave using exploded fragments of Elden Ring proper, has been a big hit.

Bad, in ten future instead of getting good game like elden ring we will get cheap crapy versions like this.

Miraak82 172d ago

It's good for them to put out lesser budget games to experiment with and also give new directors a chance to cook . Games like BB and Sekiro are what helped FS try new features that were implemented into DS3 and ER. Hopefully games like ER:NR and Duskbloods will help them with their shoddy netcode and improved MP experience lol . It's also way to early for another souls type game . It's better then company's that put out a game every 10 years and turns out to be crap

-Foxtrot172d ago

Yeah but Bloodborne and Sekiro were actually fantastic games in comparison to Nightreign which just felt like them lazily throwing together an online game with a bunch of reused assets for a quick buck.

Now they've learnt from this they can do that and still gain profit from it.

LightofDarkness172d ago

This argument has been used multiple times int he past when studios experiment with live service. It never turns out this way. They end up devoting all resources to milking their existing live services and end up neglecting any and all previous projects or IP. See: GTA, Apex Legends

First game I haven’t bought from FromSoft in a long time.

Miraak82 172d ago

Same but i respect it since they've tried to put out something new at least every year or 2 unlike most other companies, it's relatively a cheap game by today's standards and sure to get plenty of hours out of it . I'm more of a character building and pvp guy so I passed .

jznrpg172d ago

I have no issue with it I just dont have the patience and time to play online only games these days. Maybe when my kids are older and I have more time I’ll dabble more but it doesn’t fit my life and general taste at the moment. If I would play any MP game it would be a game from them or a really good MMO.

Goodguy01172d ago

Don't let that mean to you guys that you should stop making quality single player though please.

73oo73ie3172d ago

I will never be interested in this. ER2 please
