7 things you already forgot happened at E3

It’s only been a couple of months but chances are, with all that information flooding out of Los Angeles at the start of June, you’ve forgotten about some rather important gaming news. Worry not, help is at hand. Just like elephants, we remember everything.

E3 was amazing this year.

In before several disagree votes.

rbailey5044d ago

Just about everything was Predictable about E3 2012..

Next year when all theses new consoles get announced, that E3 will blow this one out the water completely guaranteed

SilentNegotiator5043d ago (Edited 5043d ago )

....until we find out that they're "Kinect-box 1080" and "Wonderbook-Station"

But hey, they'll still have normal controllers for the annual Halo, COD, and Killzone. Because they're TOTALLY not abandoning the core for the fickle casual audience! Totally!

MattyG5043d ago (Edited 5043d ago )

Absolutely! Wonderbook and Kinect and dance games galore! Gamers paradise! Who cares about Vita games or anything that uses a controller? And really, who wants surprises? Not me, that's for sure.

user54670075043d ago (Edited 5043d ago )

As rbailey has pointed out above, it was very predicatble and nothing we wanted to be announced was shown.

Having leaks and showing games off before E3 is pointless.

I mean take PS All Stars for example, people were waiting for a ton of new characters, modes, features, an epic mash up trailer of our favorite characters and what do we get...a short demo with nothing new in it except for two characters, Drake and Big Daddy which were leaked on their facebook page two weeks before E3.

Next Year will hopefully be better...new consoles will obviously make it special.

ATi_Elite5043d ago

The only thing I remember about this years E3 was my jaw hitting the floor while watching the PLANETSIDE 2 Live Stream!

Christopher5043d ago

E3 was pretty bland. Nothing new really came out of it but Watch Dogs and *shudders* Wonderbook.

TheLastGuardian5043d ago

You remembered Wonderbook but not Beyond: Two Souls? For shame.

Christopher5042d ago

I was scarred, okay?!? Scarring causes people to forget many of the good things in life.

Leave me alone!

*cries alone in corner*

Ubi where the only ones who saved E3 from the **** pile this year

You really got the sense that Sony and Microsoft were biding time until next E3. You could also tell that some of the software companies really waned to let loose and show some things, but weren't allowed to.

Next E3 should be the most epic E3 in recent memory. As long as we don't see a ton of "CGI" game trailers. That might ruin the fun a bit, I want to actually see these new games played a bit.

prototypeknuckles5043d ago

i think e3 was disappointing because people like myself thought nintendo was going to dominate and im more of a sony gamer and i was saying "this is nintendos year they have to bring it how can they lose star fox, f-zero here i come" but they kind of dropped the ball, and for some reason people believed that the next xbox and playstation would be revealed, all of this combined with a majority of sequels and things we clerly saw coming ruined e3.

also sony where were the vita games.

MattyG5043d ago

I actually did forget most of theses things. Besides a couple cool demos, not much stood out to me this year.

Nerdmaster5043d ago

That's because none of these things are worth remembering.

MattyG5043d ago

Exactly. E3 as a whole was barely worth remembering.

12345bnm5043d ago

What?! That was the real E3?
I thought they were only joking.

Far Cry 3 60 FPS Trailer

The new trailer for the free 60 FPS update is here.

TriniOutsider129d ago

I'm happy with Part 3 & Blood Dragon getting the 60FPS treatment. I'll eventually try Primal, maybe this weekend.

Why Assassin's Creed 2 and 3 Had the Best Writing the Series Has Ever Seen

IGN - Assassin's Creed's focus on character-driven storytelling has been buried by its RPG sandbox features, and the series is weaker for it.

RaidenBlack442d ago

A rare W opinion piece from IGN.
IMO, Ubisoft needs to setup two primary AC dev teams. 1 would focus on and release character-driven OG-style AC games for OG fans and the other would continue the current RPG-ified AC style for current fans.
Release by them Bi-annually and alternatively. There'd less fatigue and a boost to quality.

ZeekQuattro442d ago

I definitely appreciate 3 more after playing it again in recent years along with the Liberation game. Back when 3 was new I was still riding high on AC2 and Brotherhood so when I played 3 I felt a bit let down. Even the ship battles grew on me.

-Foxtrot442d ago

AC2 - Yes

AC3 - Urm...I don't know

I feel they kind of dropped the ball with AC3 and with the way the story went it just didn't make sense to me at all. I felt it would have made more sense lore wise if they had it so the Red Coats were mostly Assassins and the Templars were mostly the Colonists who wanted this "new world" as a fresh start for their operations, to build a country up they'd have full control of from the start so they manufacture the war as something else while really it's just a front for the Templars vs Assassins.

It just meant that since the Red coats lose the war it explains how the Templars have gained full control of future America and how the Assassins have slowly died out by then. This entire event would have been the turning point of how things went to s**t for the Assassins and how there's not many of them left in the present.

Haythem was a lot more interesting than Connor and he should have been the main Assassin of AC3.

lucasnooker442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

I thought AC2 was the greatest of the series and it is but replaying it recently, I stared to see more flaws in the game. Basically every single mission is an assassination besides a few tailing missions lol. Still, the implementation of all the new mechanics were great. The smoke bombs, disarming guards, story, hidden tombs, swimming, flying machine, multiple locations, etc. it definitely felt a bit more special to me at the time of release though

isarai441d ago

Dunno about 3, the 1st act was cool, then i couldn't tell you what happens after that. But 2 was so good! The entire acts 1-3 were al memorable, whereas i really couldn't even tell you what happens in any other AC game

Far Cry Has Become A Shadow Of Its Former Self

Following a series of repetitive games, a formulaic approach, and a disappointing last entry, the Far Cry series has been run into the ground.

The trouble with most criticisms of this franchise is that they insist Far Cry 3 was the best game, but the things they claim to hate about the franchise are all the elements that 3 introduced.

Deeeeznuuuts677d ago

Couldn't agree with you more! I've always thought that, my personal favourite is two, the whole atmosphere, mystery, adrenaline, my vehicle steaming up because I've crashed too many times trying to escape and then getting in a shootout, having to pull a bullet out my arm while fire rages and bullets fly, can't beat it

JEECE677d ago

Yep, 2 is my favorite by far as well, and one of my favorite singleplayer games of all time. It was probably one of the last games Ubisoft made before they started homogenizing their franchises to be open world collect-a-thons with unnecessary RPG mechanics tacked on. I enjoyed 3 for what it was, but it was clearly an attempt to make the franchise appeal to a mass audience (which, in fairness, was successful).

LucasRuinedChildhood677d ago

That's not the issue. If Far Cry 3 never existed and they just made another 5 or 6 games that were increasingly generic copies of Far Cry 2 instead, would that make FC2 the real problem?

No. It's the lack of creativity and effort that followed that's the real issue.

And there are things that are genuinely different about FC3. Simple example - the story was easily the best. Best main villain by far too but it also has strong themes and wasn't afraid to explore controversial topics. The sequels are much blander.

Comparing the fun and creativity of Blood Dragon to the DLC in the sequels ... also says a lot about how Ubisoft fell off.

-Foxtrot677d ago

Yeah like even Far Cry 4 was decent, not as great as FC3 but they still gave us an interesting story, setting and villain. Pagan Min's random calls to Ajay were pretty funny.

They just got lazier and lazier, pumping them out while making it a little more streamlined each time. I mean Jesus, they gave us a silent protagonist with FC5 which really hurt the main story and are obsessed with pleasing everyone by trying to do two characters, male and female rather than just settling on one to tell the best story they can.

neutralgamer1992677d ago

I started FC6 and yes the game works fine but I just wssnt Fun. Do many Ubi games are huge playgrounds but feel empty and doesn't give the feeling of a world which is lived in

JEECE676d ago

I have found that the more recent FC games work better as what I call "background games." Basically what I mean is it's nice to have an active save in one of them going for those times you have 45 minutes to play games and just want to have fun and don't want to get bogged down playing a game online or starting a new game and spending all your time into an annoying tutorial. Like I haven't touched FC4 in years but I know if I had 30 minutes to an hour to play I could hop in and easily be back in the swing of things and attack an outpost and have a good time.

I think a lot of people use big RPGs like Skyrim or Cyberpunk in a similar way.

isarai677d ago

Yes because FC3 executed those aspects better. Every game since FC3 has just been Frankensteined off the bones of FC3 with half the effort.

Michiel1989677d ago

you could say it's a far cry from what it was

wesnytsfs677d ago

Ubisoft gets a lot of hate for their content filling of maps. Personally I enjoy the mechanic when i play an open world game I like revealing hte entire map and doing all the side mission stuff before i go into main missions. Far Cry and the RPG AC maps where a joy to play.

RaidenBlack677d ago

Far Cry 2 was soo unique ... it was ahead of its time and is often misunderstood (thank you Clint Hocking, can't wait for his next game Assassins Creed Hexe)
(yes, FC2 was a departure from from FC1, so in strictest sense, Crysis 1 & 3 are the truer successors)

JEECE677d ago

Yep. Unfortunately there has been so little since then that has scratched the same itch. Really the closest thing has been BOTW, which uses a lot of similar systems (though ironically FC2 came out before Ubisoft put the Assassin's Creed towers in Far Cry, while BOTW had Ubi towers). Obviously it isn't a shooter though. I keep hoping that that some indie dev will put an FC2-esque game out on Steam, but so far I've been left wanting.

Sircolby45677d ago

I actually enjoyed Far Cry 5 and New Dawn. Far Cry 6 was a joke. It was a step backwards in every way. That was probably the worst Far Cry I have ever played.
