PCSX2 - Playstation 2 Emulator - Public Version 1.0 Released

DSOGaming writes: "Great news for PS2 (not to be confused with PlanetSide 2) fans as the best emulator for Sony’s console has hit a milestone. PCSX2 has released its first public version, 1.0. According to the team behind it, PCSX2 runs a great majority of the games, and there are no important issues that could possibly be fixed without requiring major modifications to the emulator."

Sweet! Great to hear that, I've been running PCSX2 for quite a while, so this is wonderful to hear.

Yi-Long5042d ago

... I've got a pretty new PC (I think about 1 year old maybe!?) 8GB of RAM, i7 2600 3,4GHZ.

I'm guessing that should be enough, right!?

Wingsfan245042d ago

Oh yea, that'll run it fine, considering you have a good graphics card at least. I have an HD Radeon 6670 for comparison, runs it just fine.

Yi-Long5042d ago

I have a GTX460 with (I think) 1GB of memory.

I believe it was an OK card at the time when I picked the PC.

ExCest5041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

WAT?!

All that but only a 460?

Grap5041d ago

you have a good CPU you can pretty much runs everything. there will be lag no and then in some games that's what speedhacks for. anyway the GPU isn't very important in emulator. becuz this emulator runs on CPU more than GPU.

PS2 Emulator is like dirt old news. I've been running PS2 games on my PC for Years! Wii Games almost day 1 of the Wii release.

Lets talk about the Russian Guy who made a working PS3 Emulator. Oh wait they keep shutting down his websites. Hmmm I wonder why? Because his PS3 Emulator actually works.

It BARELY works but with help and updates it will properly play PS3 games on a high end PC. I was shocked when I found it but haven't been able to get fixes for it and then i deleted it by mistake one day (popped up as Malware during a Virus scan).

He has some serious copyright issues in his Emu so I "GUESS" that's why he gets shut down but anyway the code and technology is there for a proper PS3 Emu it just needs time and work.

Qrphe5041d ago

Very curious, what's the name of such emulator?

SilentNegotiator5041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

Have fun playing ps3 in 2018, my "master race" friend.

decrypt5041d ago

@silent negotiator

Have fun paying for PS3 remakes in 2018 lol. While people with a license can play it on PC.

Its the same story today, people who owned PS2 games, get screwed by Sony because of no BC on PS3 and now must pay for HD remakes to play old games.

I expect more of the same to repeat in the future. Luckily we have the PC which does give us freedom to play our old games ;-) I think it should be seen in a positive way. Infact PC is the resistance that actually brings consumers the rights that are stolen by these corporate giants.

guitar_nerd_235041d ago

@decrypt

Or you know, you can just hook the PS2 back up to the tv for a bit.

I have a Ps2 and tons of games and still found a lot of value in HD remakes.

If you really want to play Ps2 games just grab a Ps2 off ebay for like £10.

reynod5041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

@guitar_nerd

I would disagree. PS2 came along way back, there are good chances most people who bought one dont have a functioning one anymore. Its the nature of electronics, if you dont use it then it does go bad.

Good luck trying to buy a PS2 just for the old games. Its hard to even spot one in the market these days. Even if you do manage to buy it, it will look ugly on the 1080p TV, not to mention it may be an old piece laying the market and may just go bad quickly.

I personally have over 50 PS2 games, I didnt bother with the PS3. PC is the best option to play the older console games. Need a good PC at home anyways. Being able to play anything from atari, Nes, Snes, n64, PS1 - 2, Wii is darn amazing. Throw in all arcade games too and you have a gaming monster.

I personally dont like the idea of going out to buy a PS2 then play with jaggies all over the place on my 1080p tv.

I personally dont even support the idea of HD remakes. Sure you can buy them today, however there is no guarantee they will work on the PS4. Soon the PS3 will be old too. I think the best solution is to just a PC that can play all the old games, dont have to worry about losing your old games that way, just because Sony doesnt want you having BC or they want money from HD remakes.

Irishguy955041d ago

Qrphe - PCSX2 has been almost perfect for years.

BertlSenix5041d ago

Yeah just hook on a PS2 and think its like playing with a PS2 Emulator on PC.

Noobs
Look how much better those PS2 Games look on an Emulator.
Kingdom Hearts and other games look like Current Gen in some cases thanks to the settings those Emulators offer.
You people buy HD Remakes that look identical or even worse to the 1st Release PS2 Games.
The PC Emulator shows how a HD Remake should look like if they really want to call it like that.
THose games look at least twice as good on PC.
The same will happen in "2018" with the PS3 Games...You buy the ULTRA HD (Ultra HD is the next standard btw) Remakes for 60$ on the PS4 while it will look exactly like the PS3 Games cause the developers don't care at all.
While on the PC Emulator it will look like a PS4 Game thanks to all the possibilities those Emulators have.

Anyone here has played Xenoblade(the Wii JRPG) on maxed out Wii Emulator?
Yeah that game looks fantastic in HD and looks suddenly like a real PS3 Game and not like some N64 crap.

guitar_nerd_235041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

Hard to find a Ps2, are you joking!?

As for emulation it's convenient for arcade cab but it's hardly authentic and fun to have to mess around with settings for each game to get it running consistently.

I have an awesome PC too- get over yourselves you clearly don't seem to have much of a grasp on the way emulation works, its all cheats and tricks.

Plus what have you got with all ur nice upscaled ness a great view of of some utterly low res textures- great!

You can't even emulate a SNES perfectly on a PC, it's always a better experience on the native hardware.

SilentNegotiator5041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

@dycrypt

Context, dear Watson. Firstly, Ps3 games aren't "old" yet, that's why the chump trying to release his broken emulator is getting Lawyer blocked and why I really don't give a crap that it isn't out or will be out soon.

Second, ATI is clearly just flexing his fanboy muscles that "some day" ps3 games will be playable on PC.

And lastly, reMASTERS (when will people learn the difference? Seriously.) aren't necessarily for people that already OWN the game, silly.

"Its the same story today, people who owned PS2 games, get screwed by Sony because of no BC on PS3 and now must pay for HD remakes to play old games"

.....except you can still get a ps2. In exchange for a handful of dirt and a nickel, or something like that if you get a used one. Your ps2 breaking after over a FREAKING DECADE isn't Sony's fault (it's the fault of optical drive's naturally shorter lifespan) and besides.....my ps2 works just fine. As do dozens of millions of persons'. The remakes I buy are games I never played and Shadow of the Colossus because it ran like crap on the ps2 (which I learned from the demo...I didn't "rebuy" it).

Totoro175041d ago

Same here...Kingdom Hearts in sweet HD? Yes, please ;)

no_more_heroes5042d ago

Tried this out a few years ago. Didn't quite know what the hell I was doing, but after some fiddling and a lot of FAQ research, I eventually got an ISO of KH2 (I felt so ashamed) to work.

...in slow motion. It was on an unspectacular Toshiba Satellite from 2008 that I did this, so yeah. It was intriguing though, would like to give it another go.

iamtehpwn5042d ago

I've played several games with PCSX2 before it even 1.0 at full speed with very few or minor graphical errors---They also ran in full HD.

(as a Note, I am in fact playing these games in Japanese)

CaptainMarvelQ85041d ago

looks great
mind if I ask,can you use a dualshock 3 to play those games using motionjoy? (like any other pc game)

Xalaris5041d ago

Yep, it's simple enough once you download the MotioninJoy driver, but I had trouble getting the bluetooth to work since mines installed in my laptop and for some reason it doesn't notice anything. It works fine with a cable though, you just have to calibrate it later with the emulator.

Ranma15041d ago

FF10 is awesome.

Favourite game of all time, better than the garbage FF games SE makes these days

JEW_UNIT5042d ago

Sweet. Will be downloading this as soon as I get my gaming laptop with week. Can't wait!! Is there a xbox 1 emulator too??

JEW_UNIT5042d ago

Also, can we play with our PS3 controllers?

Snookies125041d ago

Yep, get the DS3 Tool, wonderful little thing that allows PS1-PS3 and even Xbox controller emulation with a PS3 controller.

Totoro175041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

I have my Asus G73SW-3DE...it's such a bad ass gaming notebook! I love it and I'm sure you're going to love yours. I have it connected to my home theater system right now so I can play all my games on my big TV. Oh, about the controller, yes you can use a PS3 control but like stated above, you have to get a program to get it to work. The easiest method? Buy an official microsoft Xbox 360 WIRED controller; your computer will recognize it almost immediately and when you play games on Steam and such, it'll recognize it as well.

StayStatic5042d ago (Edited 5042d ago )

Awesome , I will try it out , wonder when we will see a PS3 emulator , first Ill need a blu-ray drive lol.

ATi_Elite5041d ago

There is an Alpha Stage PS3 Emulator out made by some Russian guy. (about an hour on Google using PS3 Russian Guy is how i found it)

You can use a Blu-ray drive or just download a Game. Downloading a game seems to work better cause the game is already stripped of DRM.

The Emu is in it's early Alpha Stage (able to get to the game screen, options menu) and actual gameplay is there but very very iffy.

You need a high end 4 core CPU!
Dual Core or 3 core, don't even bother waisting your time.
GPU power needs to be equal to a GTX570 or higher!
I believe the Emu uses some GPU power to do some calculations to help out the CPU cause otherwise most PC GPU can do PS3 graphics with ease.
Have fun trying to find it cause his website has been shutdown numerous times.

StayStatic5041d ago

Sounds promising , can't find the Russian one specifically, but I managed to find a few others in pre alpha on various forums at best, give it a few years and I reckon will see something.

Ju5041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

Yeah...want to see that actually working. LOL. Multicore and GPU makes sense. I doubt even a 4 core i7 is fast enough to emulate the SPUs - if they run full throttle (that is, maxing mem bandwith and run mostly parallel - 6 cores). SSE in an i7 won't cut that. My best guess, the GPU runs some of the SPU code emulation, and yet this won't work perfectly with low latency as soon as there are branches in that code - which a GPU can't handle.

Yeah, GPU heavy low SPU usage games (some multiplatform ports?? UE3??) might work well, but UC3...I want to see how that'll work.

Game screen, options menu...don't make me laugh. There is nothing running at that stage of the game. Could as well just show a screen shot.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5830d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905830d ago (Edited 5830d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5830d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Another exclusive damnn the ps3 keeps on rollin wit games awesome ;)

Jack-Pyro5830d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495830d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5830d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5830d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
