There are hundreds upon hundreds of videogame developers in the world, from shoestring outfits like Limbo developer Playdead to behemoths like BioWare, but only a handful are anything approaching household names. Some are too niche, some have fallen from glory, others have been obscured by competitors. This here feature is our attempt to correct all that, flagging up a few middleweights for your kind consideration. As always, add to the list.

Gregg Mayles writes: "Today was my last day at Rare Ltd. Thanks to everyone who played and enjoyed any of the games I helped create while I was there. Also thanks to all the people that worked on the games alongside me. It seemed fitting that I should say farewell with one final rhyme!"
Godspeed for the rest of your journey, sir. Loved BK. I think I'll play it this weekend to show my appreciation for this classic.

Louise O’Connor, a 25-year Rare veteran, has been made Xbox Game Studios’ Chief of Staff.
Not to offend anyone. But what was Rare doing with Everwild for so many years? Development began in 2014, with a reveal in 2019. From 2019 onwards nothing was about the game.
"Notably, O’Connor’s boss of 13 years, former Rare studio head Craig Duncan, was appointed head of Xbox Game Studios last year."
Hiring internal talent from Rare worked out so well last time.

2025 marks the 40th ‘Ruby’ Anniversary of that bold endeavour, and Rare’s inviting everyone to join the celebration of this impressive milestone, offering free gifts, discounts and plenty of swag to claim in their shared-world pirate adventure, Sea of Thieves.
It's a shame it seems pretty Sea of Thieves centric
I was hoping for some cool Banjo / Conker merch or maybe a re-release of Rare Relay with some added games, possibly work something out with Nintendo so they can add Goldeneye to it with online support.
Shouldn't this be, "Devs Who by Past Reputation Should Be Making Better Quality Games?"
If there's been one major failing this gen its been fans forgetting that gaming is a business. That businesses earn loyalty through making quality products and not just crapping out buggy and incomplete crap.
The article writer needs to correct something on Monolith. They had nothing to do with FEAR 3 which is why it was a steaming pile of crap.
Monolith and Raven are (were, in Raven's case) great developers.
Monolith's FEAR and Condemned series are both great, with Condemned's paranoia inducing sense of atmosphere being a highlight of the horror genre. It's up there with Amnesia, though I would still give the crown to Amnesia in that fight.
As for Raven, well, they were easily one of my top FPS developers. They were always good at making shooters that were just a little bit more. It's a shame that they didn't get the recognition they deserved.
Rare was great in their day, but the fact that the heads of the company scared most of the talent off with overly-heavy workloads year after year, it's not a surprise that they eventually turned into a much weaker developer. This is why they are only a shell of the company they used to be, and you shouldn't expect anything out of that company that would even compare to them back in their golden days, working with the SNES/N64.
Those developers all get a decent amount of love. I love the Lego games and have almost all of them.
hold on some of theses developers are on more then one console so why should 360 get more love? they are treated = on all console
