Will EA Ruin Battlefield? What Could Help?

After the breakout success of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare almost every shooter has tried to emulate this seemingly simple approach to designing shooters. Such games include Homefront, Medal of Honor and even the Battlefield series, who after going head-to-head against Modern Warfare 3 with Battlefield 3 last year is now releasing its fourth iteration come next year. I honestly could not feel less excited.

The problem is that EA has an uncanny ability to take anything that’s even remotely exciting and ram it into the ground by way of excessive milking.

... I'll pass.

I LOVE Battlefield games, but somehow Battlefield 3 had moves too much towards the CoD crowd, and the game only came with a few proper Battlefield maps.

That's just not good enough.

I really feel DICE let the Battlefield fans down. Maybe they brought in a whole new audience. I don't know. TBH, I don't care. For me, the Battlefield magic was lost on many of the maps.

It's still a good game. I can still enjoy playing it. It just isn't the Battlefield experience that I want.

It's just not as great as Battlefield 2, or even Battlefield 1943.

If they wanted to go after the CoD crowd, they really should have done it with a new IP or perhaps with the Medal of Honor series. NOT with Battlefield.

Battlefield should always be Battlefield. Not 'Battefield of Duty'

The problem with BF game is.. It's becoming a console game and not the pc classic like it used to be. First Cod & BF is next. UT is dead now. Actually hardcore shooters are basically dead unless you play pc indie games. I will be playing Planetside 2 anyway. Bf4 64 player battles are to small. I'll take 2000.

EA wants this..

I don't see how BF3's gameplay has evolved towards Call of Duty.

Battlefield 2 was one of the first shooters I ever really got into when I got my first gaming PC after mistakenly buying BF2: Modern Combat for the PS2.

To me, BF3 is almost exactly how I wanted it to be. It's gorgeous, massive and fun as hell. It got off to a rocky start with crashes and errors, but after the first week, my experience with Battlelog has been excellent. I don't care for Origin, but I don't have some irrational hatred for it like most people; it just exists on my machine not doing anything at all until I go to launch BF3.

I was a huge fan of BFBC2 as well, but it just felt a bit to condensed for me.

... but map-choice. There are too many small maps in BF3, and not enough actual big Battlefield maps.

Maps like Metro, Crossing the Seine, Tehran Highway, Damavand Peak, and Grand Bazar do not offer that Battlefield freedom that you would expect. They're quite lineair.

Even Operation Firestorm (which IS big) really could have used 2 more flags on the other side of the road to make it a much more interesting map.

@Yi-Long
You do realise that the majority of those maps are the most popular on battlefield 3 right? You and I may hate it and wish that Battlefield 3 would stay with big maps but if you look at the stats all those smaller maps are the most popular ones for battlefield

DasBunker5045d ago (Edited 5045d ago )

Even BC2 was a better game in most aspects.. maps.. destruction.. vehicles..

Maps like siege, metro and CQC shitpack is what's wrong with BF3, where's the destruction, vehicles, huge maps? plus it took them like 8 months for it to be almost well balanced and PS3 kinda input lag-free..

Then they will come out with a new one every 2 years that will be unplayable on release day.. just so they can compete with COD.

COD fans may be ok with the same shit every year but i wont take it as a BF fan

MysticStrummer5045d ago

Whether they ruin it or not, the whiner generation will claim they did.

DrRobotnik5045d ago (Edited 5045d ago )

I enjoyed BF3, I just hope EA doesn't do to BF what the did to Madden.

Blade Runner5045d ago

BFBC2 for the win! BF3 is now unplayable.

leaving EA, that would help.

Battlefield 3 Cut Missions From Campaign Detailed by Former DICE Dev

Battlefield 3's former Lead Designer has revealed that there were two cut missions from the main campaign

XiNatsuDragnel500d ago

I wish someone can get those EA game leaks to see all the cut content ngl

anast500d ago

Get rid of campaigns, move the game to mobile, and try to compete with warzone. They would save time and money.

Bf4 was fun hope the new bf is just as good.

hmmm I think there will be no old BF glory days for EA since they are loyal to their greediness and laziness :D

Knightofelemia1286d ago

You're asking for a miracle with EA that will never happen unless they can exploit the money making schemes behind it.

MadLad1285d ago

We'll see what happens now that Zampella is overlooking the series.
