This Hi-Definition JRPG Looks…Yeah

BRIAN ASHCRAFT:

Ungh. Yes, I know this game uses a hand-drawn style, and, yes, I know there’s only a few seconds of gameplay, but damn. Jump to the 1:40 mark to see what I’m talking about.

Revealed earlier this year, Tokitowa combines JRPG elements with, wait for it, third-person shooter play (think action RPG). Parts of the game will have a fixed point-of-view, while other parts won’t.

Tokitowa claims to be the first “HD animation RPG” on the PlayStation 3. It’ll be out this fall in Japan.

The animation looks a little stilted and low budget, but the actual art style looks gorgeous.

WTH is with this piece?

"Tokitowa claims to be the first “HD animation RPG” on the PlayStation 3."

eh? ~.~

then what about Ni No Kuni? o.o as I know this game is out already in JPN & it looks miles better than this, so they say Ni No Kuni is not HD?

Ni No Kuni is more like cell-shaded graphics, while Tokitowa is supposed to be actually hand drawn animated characters in 3D space. Think a game like Space Ace or Dragon's Lair but in a 3 dimensional area.

The game is kinda the first using a premise like this and although the execution is a little rough hopefully the finished game will run as well as they hope it will.

CLOUD19835047d ago

yep Ni No Kuni graphic style it is indeed cell-shaded but from a new very advanced engine that make it look like they r hand drawn, anyway it still look much better than this game but what Level-5 & Studio Ghibli did it's very exceptional & cant be copied from any random company out there.

ugh they didnt think before they design..the skirt is too short,so they cant do a pantsu run forever (it will get annoying, trust me) which resulted in the weird/ridiculous running animation

The movement does look odd, but the sprites look fantastic. As long as the gameplay is solid, I would definitely play this game.

I don't think I've seen a wedding in a JRPG actually end.Something always seems to go wrong.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle26d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
