Why Ouya is the real deal and could be the next-gen console to watch.

Interesting subject, bad article.
The ouya is not at all like the Raspberry Pi.
The Pi comes without os, without casing, targets developers, costs 3x as much, specs aren't even close etc.

Tegra 3 = tablet... erm what?

bestgamer5042d ago

I meant the scale of production is closer to Raspberry Pi than something like Xbox 360. It's a small scale operation. Was not comparing features.

Tegra 3 = tablet is a notion I was out to dispel. It's an FAQ I was answering.

ProtomanP15041d ago

Even then you can't compare the two.

Pi has no support really except for the dev community's. Sold as is.

Ouya already has support from major mobile game devs and there also seems to be an agreement with OnLive.

Scale of production of Pi's is incredibly small. The demand ended up being 200x as high as produced.

Yes it is smaller than X360 but that is like comparing a rock with the sun.

I know the tegra 3 was a notion you wanted to dispel. But who and how does one make the connection that tegra 3 = tablet?

Especially since you have an image of ouya just above this line and it looks nothing like a tablet.

Don't know how to reply to your reply Protoman, but yeah, I have seen a lot of people around the web saying Ouya is basically a tablet. They see the specs and write it off as a tablet for the living room, making the assumption that all the games will be tablet stuff pumped up to a big screen. I wanted to get across that it's not necessarily the case just because Ouya and some tablets share common brains.

WeskerChildReborned5041d ago

Though i don't believe it will be a tablet but i'm not really expecting triple AAA titles that are free except from Onlive but that's it.

I think most of their titles will be Android indie titles and maybe some familiar indie titles will be available like Minecraft.

OmniSlashPT5041d ago

Next gen? But it aims to play mobile games on a big screen...lmao, you guys are overeacting with the OUYA. This hype will kill the console.

Thatguy-3105041d ago (Edited 5041d ago )

God I know !!! I want the console to come out already so it can FAIL already and show how its just hype. The only reason it has gotten notice is because of how long this generation of consoles have gone. Consumers are hungry for something new but once the next generation of consoles are announce this will just fade away Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have nothing to worry about.

Awesome-Xanto5041d ago

I don't see a vast majority of consumers paying any attention to it as it has no brand recognition. It's one of them items where it's only popular online.

Hazmat135041d ago

it looks like fun, might give it a try i am a gamer so anything new in the video game world i gotta try. and for only 100 its not that bad.

I had the LaserActive... it was a nice collectors piece but not very practical. Especially when it came to needing recapping. I think i paid all of about $50 for the floor model from an incredible Universe back in the day. I ended up selling it many years later for $300 at the time due to it needing a new laser and the aforementioned recapping.

An honorable mention not on the list would be the VM Labs Nuon. It basically looked like any regular DVD player but it had ports on it for controllers to play specific games. one of which is still exclusive to it with Tempest 3000. It also offered nuon enhanced DVD movies with extra content not accessible by regular players.

Wasn't there some KFC console, or am I mistaken?

It was announced but it never actually came out as far as I know

How has this article missed out Sega's Dreamcast and Nintendo's Wii U, two consoles that were actually superb devices in their own right, but were seen as failed due to lacklustre sales at the time of release?

Knightofelemia2333d ago

Wonder how long before Stadia appears on the list surprised the Ngage is not on that list

I enjoy these kinds of articles.

Talk about a blast to the past.......I remember trying the virtual boy at Toy R Us and it was cool but I did feel slightly disoriented afterwards......good article.

That's pretty cool they were able to bring it back. It sucks when something online only gets killed.

I got mine when it first launched, however it wasn't good for anything other than retro emulation. I couldn't sell the thing fast enough. Managed to get almost all my money back selling it on eBay.

Just let go homies. It was DOA

JEECE2365d ago

I guess the Stadia launch is bringing back memories of other failed consoles/services.
