Dayz is a good idea but very rough around the edges and a pain to get working, only really for the hardcore pc gamer. It's still in alpha so it will, slowly, get better. War z looks like it could be a great game, fully realised zombie apocalyptic nightmare. Bring it on.

I'm hoping they can deliver on all of their promises. They've made quite a few, and now my expectations are extremely high. But for now, a gameplay trailer would satisfy me lol

Regardless which was in development first, I suspect that the marketing for War Z is trying to piggy back on the success of Day Z. Let me be clear, I am not saying War Z is copying Day Z. I am saying they are very different games and the War Z people are using the success of Day Z to promote their game. Which is totally fine.

War Z looks like a zombie mmo. Day Z is a survival sim that happens to have zombies(infected) in it. They may share some similarities like not having quests or a structured story line but beyond that they are very different. Optional hardcore mode is an obvious difference, and so is safe zones. These aren't bad, but it does show their goals are much different. Day Z was hugely successful despite not trying to reach a broad audience, which says a lot about its goals.

War Z has potential but its odd that so little information has been released with the beta right around the corner. I am very skeptical about this game and it has nothing to do with comparing it to Day Z.

I look forward to this. Dayz is great and all but its just a pain in the ass to play. Having an 'actual game' like dayz would be a fast buy for me.

DayZ Frostline DLC Gets Review Bombed; Dev Says “No One is Forcing Players to Buy It”

DayZ Frostline DLC gets review-bombed for its price and content. Dev responds, saying "No one is forcing players to buy it."

Yes, I saw that! The DayZ Frostline DLC has indeed faced a lot of backlash from players who feel that the $26.99 price tag is too high for what's included. The DLC adds a new snow-covered map called Sakhal, but many players feel it doesn't offer enough new content to justify the cost.

Bohemia Interactive's CEO, Marek Spanel, responded to the criticism by pointing out that the studio has received very little revenue per hour of gameplay from the game over the years. He even referenced the Beatles song "Please Please Me" in his response, highlighting the frustration with the situation.

It's definitely a heated debate.
