1UP Previews: Devil May Cry 4

1UP writes:

"The DMC3 development team worked on DMC4. It may sound like a small thing, but DMC3 -- as flawed as it was -- at least put the franchise back in the right direction, ditching the bland soul collecting in favor of more high-octane action and combat. OK, so the camera angles, backtracking, unintuitive level design, and non-stop waves of enemies were a little O.T.T., but the team's collective head was in the right place."

Hmm, drop in the bluetooth signal? That's a think i have never experienced with the ps3

Skerj6600d ago (Edited 6600d ago )

There should have been a spoiler warning in that preview for Vergil's sword, or maybe it was already revealed and I just didn't want to know. I could have also done without the Halo 3 reference, it's out of place. They should have just used Nevan as an example since it's relevant to the subject at hand.

I'll probably end up playing through the first few levels multiple times before progressing through the game so I can upgrade everything I possibly can before hitting the good stuff. I had Trickster to level 2 in DMC3, a full row of health, and the Shotgun/Rebellion/E&I before even fighting Cerberus.

Funny, most of their problems in DMC3 weren't a problem at all for me. In fact I thought the backtracking gave the game world a more cohesive feel. They're split into missions but you can still run all the way back to the areas from mission 7 to mission 3 and so forth. Besides it wasn't even a chore to move as such considering how fast and agile Dante was. I hope that's kept in DMC4.

In any case my main fear was that the combat wouldn't be as deep and kinetic as it was in DMC3, and I can honestly say fears officially freaking alleviated. Nero has a lot at his disposal with the Devil Bringer and the Exceed system, I can't wait to see what upgrades are in store and that's just Nero's side.

Not even going to forget they gave me the one thing I wanted most in the game for Dante, style switching!! It was the only thing I wish I had while playing DMC3 and Capcom answered it, Feb 8th hurry the hell up.

you know its true when an xbox360 site like 1up.com admits it. It almost hurts them to admit it.They start going on force feed back while knowing the game has dual shock3 compatibility for the ps3 so thats not a factor. The wireless controller never drop of on me ever at least i don't have to worry about changing or looking for batteries for my controller when i'm playing the most important parts of the game.they are not the only site (gamesrader.com)and ( http://gamereviewsblog.com)... said it's better on the ps3 the truth always comes out.

Azures6600d ago (Edited 6600d ago )

the connection dropping is an issue thats exclusive to your control, and thats if you've dropped it enough times to jar it so much. don't penalize the ps3 for your own clumsy crap 1up.

likeaboss3026600d ago

Oh quit the fanboy crap. I've played both 360 and PS3 demo version on my Sony XBR4. They look pretty much the same with the 360 version coming in a little better being upscaled to 1080P by the system instead of the TV. However, I find playing DMC4 easier on the PS3 because I'm so used to playing the old games on PS2. They both look great and I honestly wouldn't mind having the game on either system. Everyone is a winer. I'll probably go 360 since currently I don't have a Dualshock 3 for my PS3 and to get the extra achivements for my Gamertag.

"As flawed as it was"...

WHAT???

Are they drunk? DMC3 is the best action game ever created. Sure God of War II was epic...but DMC3 had a WAY better combo system...and I actually kept playing it after I beat it. The moves are so cool!

Kratos is BA, but Dante could still take him.

DMC2 ranked 2nd and also DmC ranked 3rd?
What a load of BS!

ABizzel1312d ago

IMO

6. DMC2 6/10
5. DMC4 7.5/10 (Hated Nero, repeat bosses, Dante was the saving grace but only about half the game)
4. DmC 7.5/10 (solid overall, some great ideas, meh story, dialog sucked, and the director almost killed DMC)
3. DMC1 8.5/10 (all around solid)
2. DMC5 9/10 (carried by Dante & Nero gameplay, I didn’t like V’s, Nero’s better but still not a fan)
1. DCM3 10/10 (chef’s kiss)

Vits312d ago

Well, it worked.

This nothingburger of a opinion article got a lot of views and comments.

Pyrofire95312d ago

WHAT!? who in their right mind would put 2 near the top (not at the bottom) unironically?
I think all of them are worth playing in their own right honestly, except 2 unless you REALLY want to experience the whole series.

FinalFantasyFanatic311d ago (Edited 311d ago )

I honestly don't know what the author was smoking, personally I'd rank DMC3 as no.1, maybe DMC5 as second, DMC1 as third, DMC4 as fourth, and DMC as fifth and DMC2 last. such a bizarre list, mybe the author just has strange taste.

DMC2 anywhere but last is crazy. Awful list overall.

BlaqMagiq1312d ago

"Devil May Cry 2 isn’t trash. It’s just misunderstood by a fanbase that doesn’t like change."

This and putting DMC 2 number 2 is all I need to ignore this ranking. DMC2 is absolute trash and it's clear this person doesn't understand exactly why.

Flenter312d ago

For me: 3,1,5,4,2 and then .....Dmc

fsfsxii312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

Why is DmC last? Genuinely curious.

lellkay312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

Dmc is far superior to DMC2 come on

"almost 20-year-old series"

It's 24 years old.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

VersusDMC674d ago

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC674d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos673d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga673d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer674d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey602674d ago (Edited 674d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya674d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde674d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP673d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

Bless the adorably all digital future! When it comes to PC games its not as big of an issue because there should always be another way to access single player games, but still, I hate to see anything get delisted.

Aaroncls7751d ago

Well, DMC4 special edition has a lot of issues to run from Steam.
I have to get a modded executable to even be able to run the game on Windows 10.
Not sure if it is because the game runs in DirectX10 or what, but it sucks they have not even tried to fix it.

Sephiroushin750d ago (Edited 750d ago )

DMC4 Special Edition is not delisted, it was just the standard version, it has nothing to do with issues of performance or anything alike. Its just that Capcom probably do not want to sell the standard version, neither the standalone DMC3 version.
