Dead Space 3 hands-on preview: despite the changes Isaac is DEFINITELY back OPM

Well, guess what? The latest slice of Isaac Clarke’s adventure looks a whole lot more like the previous two games. Out with the snow, in with the dimly lit space station corridor. I’m not anti-snow, anti-co-op or even anti-cover shooter – it’s just that seeing all those new elements at once was at Dead Space 3′s reveal was like discovering Black Ops II will be a text adventure set in NATO conference rooms.

I can't wait to finish the fight with Isaac, he's so cuddly and cute.!

At least someone can see through the dismemberment fests and the spilled gallons of blood the perfect harmony shared between Isaac and the necromorphs.

I love sites trying to sugar ooat this, even if the game is good when reviewing it, especialy a new installment to a franchise you should have one thing in mind...

"Does it hold up to past installments and stays true to the franchises roots"

If it dosen't like DS3, RE6 and RE5 then you should mark it down and be harsh in your review because at the end of the day despite being a good game it's still not a game in that franchise it's basicaly a new IP using the brand name

Christopher5066d ago

That's... a weird statement to make, I think.

Look at the Super Mario IP. Do you rate a game like Mario Kart down because it is in the same IP, but isn't like the original Mario Bros. and its sequels?

I think they should rate it based on how the game plays primarily. Yes, story flow and the like are good, but that shouldn't trump the quality of the game itself. Nor should it be "rated harshly" because of changes that could improve and strengthen the IP and its gameplay/characters/etc.

Mario Kart, Super Mario, Paper Mario are totaly differn't because Mario is an all rounded character. When you take a horror game turning into a generic third person shooter, a FPS by turning into COD even though it's nothing like it or a Final Fantasy game which has been dumbed down and westernized then it goes against the franchises roots.

If I was to review RE6 it would automaticaly get a crap score because I know for a fine fact that it goes against what the franchise was about. Same goes for the new dmc, it may look like a good game but it's not dmc at heart and it should be reviewed as one, if it dosen't live up to past DMC games then it fails in my books. If you let developers keep changing franchises instead of making new IPs for them then your letting them ruin every franchise they create

Theres a difference between evolving a franchise and drasticaly changing it

**When you take a horror game turning into a generic third person shooter, a FPS by turning into COD even though it's nothing like it or a Final Fantasy game which has been dumbed down and westernized then it goes against the franchises roots.**

Or, it's a refinement of the IP itself?

Look, I hate that ME2 and ME3 got rid of a ton of the RPG elements from ME1 (exploration, kill-by-kill xp rewards, ability to customize/equip squad, some form of loot drop or kill rewards, etc.). But, when they changed from being a 90% character skill based shooter in the first game to a 99% player skill based shooter in the second and third games, I didn't find it a change in what it was. Neither did the overall community.

Now, yes, there will be more focus on action on DS3, but that doesn't mean there won't be just as much focus on horror elements. So, when you hear someone say "there will be more action in this game" do you automatically assume that horror will be thrown out?

Furthermore, we're talking about the very early stages of an IP. Without evolving it to meet a greater audience demand, you are going to ruin the chances for the IP all together.

Look at Resident Evil. How vastly different was the gameplay in Resident Evil 1-3 to Resident Evil 4? They made a change to a more traditional TPS and in the process made the best of the series.

Look, I'm not saying you can't be wrong, but I am saying that looking at what they are saying doesn't mean that the elements you consider core to the IP are missing. Furthermore, nor does it mean it will make for a worse game that follow the spirit of the franchise.

Why Dead Space 3 Will Be the Hardest to Remake

If EA and Motive Studio plan on remaking all the main Dead Space entries, they have to change a lot of what made Dead Space 3 so divisive.

Simple, do not bother with a Dead Space 3 remake. Rather have a new entry for Dead Space.

myfathersbastard1189d ago

Yeah I agree. Make a dead space 3, but have an original story/setting. They’ve proven they can do the game justice, and I think they could evolve 2 in a good direction, keeping a similar tone. I’d love s Dead Space 2 and 3 though. The remake was fantastic. Top tier remake, up there with RE2.

jznrpg1188d ago

Remaking 3 would need to be a reworked and somewhat changed remake as 3 was flawed in most peoples eyes and the worst entry.

Ninver1188d ago

It's the worst in the series.

Dead Space 3, A Ten Year Reunion

WTMG's Kyle Nicol:

"Was Dead Space 3 really that bad?

Well, it’s a complicated question. Dead Space 3 is undeniably the weakest of the trilogy. It’s a game that deviates so far from the original formula, that it throws a lot of what made Dead Space special in the first place out of the window. Although, where it does make up for it is one of the best cooperative shooters on the market, even after all this time. Do I recommend playing this game ten years later? Hell yes. But make sure your expectations are in the right place. It has a lot of problems that bring it down."

They need to seriously continue this ip with a new entry. Even if it's just another movie I don't care I love everything about this game.
