This would help PS3 sales SO MUCH... they actually would be kinda close to the competition! And all the games coming.

I am a bit skeptical about the pricedrop on the 40gb, but it might happen.

40 Gig for $299

Make an emulator available on the PSN to download for B/C.

Reintroduction of the 60 gig for $399

Sony is dropping the 80GB and thus only having the 40GB with no BC, that sucks.

Also what am I missing, why are you idiots saying a 299 PS3 is coming at the end of the month, they just said that was not happening.

A price drop for te PS3 would help system sales. This would be great for the consumer and PS3 Fans! For those who said it will help them crush the competition, if Sony drops the price for the PS3, MS will certainly drop the price of the 360. I think Ninty will keep the same price for the Wii. Sony and MS will go tit for tt like this for the for seeable future. The only thing that helps MS is that they have a lead on system and hardware sales over the PS3 due the the 1 year head start, but when you ar in the kead it is easier to make adjustments.

With that said, what this really means is better prices for us, the gamers!!! So Jump In or Play Beyond, or play with you Wii (ha ha) either way you can not go wrong.

The US$299 40G Ps3.

I'm going to say it now - another price drop is coming very soon.

After observing how the 1.2 year old Ps3 has been rapidly progressing in the midst of major competition from the Wii & xbox 360 and seeing the trends and action taken by Sony(including denials, denials, denials), the $299 Ps3 will easily be on the market within 6 months if not earlier.

The Duel Shock 3 controller will be going worldwide soon and the big AAA games are coming as well as the likely surprise hit, HOME.

But most importantly, the Ps3 needs a larger install base of GAMERS. This is especially important due to BD winning the HD war and all those pesky HD-only fans buying the Ps3 as a media player not for games - likely contributing to the less than stellar games sales.

Sorry guys, for repeating myself about this but it's all obvious.

But the question is, will Sony continue with the two console policy(cheap & expensive Ps3)?

i predicted it! sony is discontinueing the 80 gig ps3 cause it cost too much to make still it will remain with the 40 gig thus completeing they're consistant cycle in system releases.

PS1 original released with redwhiteyellow in the back, link port,expansion port.
revised additions removed the easy redwhite and yellow hook up allowing for a propietary multilink made by sony (more money in sony pockets yay)

Link port was later removed as well as the expansion slot, nearly no companies supported the link abbility (something like 40 or so games) and the expansion slot was NEVER used by sony or any one else except cheat device makers and modders.

Ps2 was released with 2 usb ports, ilink, HDD port...ect ilink was eventually removed cause pretty much nothing used it, hdd port was removed with the excuse of every one that wants one all ready has one...ect it was removed because many of the games that supported it never came here or came here with the function removed.

It is common course for sony to promise the world with their system throw in the kitchen sink then by the 3rd revision remove every thing and not deliver on over half they're promises.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
