For a reason PS3 is capable of emulating 100% of PSOne games. I quote myself from another thread:

40gb is the only console version you can buy in the u.k and soon japan, i dont know but i assume thats the case in the rest of Europe to.
so more than likely the 60gb will go from the U.S market to, sony doesnt need multiple consoles with different sized hard drives you can put a larger one in yourself if you really want to.

I want backwards compatibility, and I was just seriously considering getting my PS3 in the next few months.

One of the main reasons I want it is for playing PS2 and PS1 games wirelessly and in high def. This will make me very angry if they do this, and I don't even know if I would want a PS3 anymore, considering the price tag and smaller game library.

How many times per week do you actually use the backwards compatibility for your PS3. I rarely use it, I have the 60gb one and I don't play too many PS2 or PS1 games on it. I honestly think it's one of those things people really want, but when they get it, they don't do anything with it.

The backwards compatibility on PS3 sucks anyway PS2 games on it look worse than a PS1 game really jaggy

If Sony does drop PS2 BC, then they should give the PS2 a price cut.

This is just all a huge mess. I'm glad I got a 60GB. (and I just hope it lasts through the years)

What confuses me is that Sony hs always made BC a priority and ripped MS when the 360 was not fully BC with the 360. So when I got my PS3 back last February I just new I was going to be able to play my PS2 and PS1 games on it.

I can't believe how many "gamers" are willing to give Sony a pass on the BC issue. Maybe you've all already played every game in the PS2 library, but I haven't. I just picked up Haunting Ground & Manhunt last Thursday. Haven't started playing them yet though because I have a couple missions left to knock off in Second Sight for the GameCube which I happen to be playing on my Wii. BC does matter because TVs have a limited number of inputs & a coffee table can't hold an infinite number of controllers & remotes. Maybe BC doesn't matter to you because you're not "gamers" at all, but a pack of vindictive videophiles trying to enact revenge upon "gamers" because your PS3 came with a Sixaxis instead of a Blu-ray Remote.

I wish they would update it for the 80GB (60GB EU) so it would play them as good as the PS2!

SONY, JUST DROP THE DAMN PRICE ALREADY, STOP REMOVING SKUS AND FEATURES, IT ANGERS YOUR CUSTOMERS.

I just bought the 80gig and every ps2 game I put in ran smooth.

BC is a pretty big deal to me, I don't own a console (last one I bought was a SNES and it's been all PC since then), but if I were to choose a current gen console it would be a PS3 mainly because of blu-ray support and backward compatibility.

Even though I don't have a huge back catalog of PS2 games my friends do, and with games like God of War 2 coming out as well as the odd casual interest in games like GTA:Vice city stories it really is a a major selling point for some people.

I'm still more likely to buy a ps3 over an 360 (though in reality I'll probably buy neither), but it does dampen the potential deal somewhat.

I guess at least Sony didn't promise backward computability on a model, and then go back on that promise after a whole bunch of fans sold their ps2/1. They've gone back on one of their value statements to reflect a perceived shift in consumer needs, but this has not greatly effected or shortchanged any adopters of the console.

I'm glad my PS3 has backwards compatibility, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play Global Defence Force or Metal Slug Anthology. I also still play Capcom's Versus series (Marvel, SNK) from time to time.

By the way, that stretching thing something mentioned, you can turn off the stretching. Well, you can on my PS3 anyway...
