Activity Being Reported on Half Life 3 Domain

Some suspicious activity has been reported on the Half Life 3/Episode 3 website.

skyrim5044d ago

Ok so it's still coming out............never?

WeskerChildReborned5044d ago

I'm hoping Valve is still working on it cause they know alot of people want one.

Will never get my hopes up for this game, I will remain calm until master developer gabe decides to unleash it.

adorie5044d ago

Tonight, a FEAST in honor of Gaben and a sacrifice of 1000 bulls to the going gold of Half Life III

Cablephish5044d ago

Everytime you make a Gaben joke, he delays the game by 15 minutes.

mynameisEvil5044d ago

I certainly hope this means an announcement or just SOMETHING soon. Then again, who doesn't want something HL3 related?

Ramses35044d ago

I've lost interest, there's so many innovative games out there, and too be honest, the other half life games haven't aged well. Look at games like Dishonoured, now that's innovation.

mynameisEvil5044d ago

Excuse me? I just played through the Half-Life 2 saga last month for the first time (yeah, I'm a bit late to the party) and I had no problem with it. It's aged VERY well, for your information...

Psycho_PS3Truthh5044d ago

Losing interest in the FPS game of all time is a sign of madness in the earth.

Half life 2 is like the playstation of FPS, everything is perfectly clean and beautiful at what it does.

Ramses35044d ago

But when you sit down and actually play it in today's modern world, you realize it doesn't actually do much. It's a basic shooter, there's nothing too special about. Maybe the gravity gun is a cool aspect, but other than that, it's run of the mill.

Bimkoblerutso5043d ago (Edited 5043d ago )

I replayed it just a couple of months ago. There's still nothing like it. To say that it's just "a basic shooter" is ridiculous.

There are so many innovative concepts in the game that developers to THIS DAY are still floundering to emulate (physics based puzzles and combat, a narrative told almost exclusively through gameplay, a setting and design that has influenced both movies AND video games, etc. etc.).

I guess I just disagree wholeheartedly with you. Not to diminish the accomplishments of say, Bioshock or Dishonored, but the Half-Life franchise will always be the grandaddy of single-player FPS's as far as I'm concerned.

MadLad5044d ago

The game looks good.

But basically being another Bioshock isn't exactly innovation.

cannon88005044d ago (Edited 5044d ago )

@SlapHappyJesus

So you're saying that Bioshock came out first and somehow half life 2 stole some game ideas? Half life 2 was released first, back in November 14, 2004. Bioshock came out on August 21,2007. If anything it would be the other way around.

MadLad5044d ago (Edited 5044d ago )

@Cannon

No . . .

Was simply replying to Ramses' post that Dishonoured is innovative. The game isn't innovative in any way, from what I've seen. In a lot of ways it's just a different take on the Bioshock formula, perhaps with a few separate elements.

Half-Life, both the original and the sequel, were actually pretty innovative in the way that the first game was one of the first to use scripted events, along with a lack of cutscenes, to tell a story in a (then) modern shooter, with the second being one of the first, if not the first, game to incorporate physics into the traversing of the world, as well as solving puzzles. At least as far as shooters of the time went.

Should have been clearer. The disagrees make a little more sense to me now.

Sidewinder-5044d ago (Edited 5044d ago )

Dishonored is a stealth game.

Bioshock is not.

How is it like Bioshock? Cus you can use magic? With your hands?! Heaven forbid!

Feel safe in the knowledge that you arn't one of the people acusing it of being 'just another assassins creed' cus you can run on rooftops and kill important people.

Open your eyes. Look properly at the game.

Wingsfan245044d ago

It's like Bioshock in the sense that it offers very unique environments and gameplay. Comparing it to Bioshock isn't saying anything bad about the game.

Sidewinder-5044d ago (Edited 5044d ago )

If that's the case then great. Only it comes across as an insult to the game in many cases.

As in, 'This game is not good, because it's just doing something Bioshock did'.

Even when what 'Bioshock did' had been done before in other games.

It's a narrow-minded way of thinking. Overgeneralization.

But if 'SlapHappyJesus' thinks it looks good, then swell.

MadLad5043d ago (Edited 5043d ago )

sonicsidewinder

Narrow-Minded? Because I compared both games and saw a strong similarity, leaving me to believe that Bioshock was most definitely a large inspiration on the development of it?

No. Not quite.

And no. Magic (powers) and shooting is nothing new to the genre, or games in general. I was playing Undying back in the early 2000's. Bioshock did, however, hit popularity in a way that many haven't - prompting people to, obviously, draw inspiration from it.

Also, Dishonoured isn't necessarily a stealth game. The game leaves it open to choose how you approach things. This is where the Deus Ex comparisons come into play as well. Just better supporting my main point that the game isn't exactly "innovative" in design. Everything has been done before, and pretty much the entire game is visible within a small number of titles.

So yes, everything I have seen of the game shows me the visuals (though leaning a bit more towards steam-punk than art deco) and gunplay (along with powers) of Bioshock, mixed with overall game design of Deus Ex and even a bit of Thief. The game is derivative, though it does it well enough that things still look interesting.

My point stands though.

Anyway, the arrogance in your posts is unneeded. We have separate opinions, fine. But that doesn't mean I don't know what I am talking about, nor that I don't have the capacity to form an opinion simply because it is not shared by you.

Valve only wants to make HalfLife if they push medium forward but what could it push forward next?

If Half-Life 3 ever happens, what big innovation would justify it in Gabe Newell's eyes?

-Foxtrot374d ago

Innovation doesn’t always have to be a VR game, look at one of the rumours for HL3 that someone was saying earlier last week

"Procedural generation (ie. L4D Director) and advanced AI will be pushed by HLX. "

"“The 'procedural generation' in HLX does not relate to terrain or roguelike-ish mechanics but something like the Left4Dead director made "significantly more powerful". Doors, physics props, enemies, enemy types items, NPCs of any kind will be influenced by said director"

That to me is pretty significant if it's done well, that along with better enemy AI, physics and the like are what games should be evolving more but they always choose graphics mostly. The fact that it keeps circling back to only VR is the way forward when it comes to Valve is silly in my opinion.

VR can be a choice but it shouldn't be "VR only because VR is the only innovation we have left"

Levii_92373d ago

No, and they already did that.

gold_drake373d ago

ew no

there are other ways im sure

Vits373d ago

Just go back to what made Half-Life 2 special: the physics.

At the time, it was groundbreaking and arguably influenced a wave of other games that started to experiment with more interactive and dynamic environments. For a while, physics-based gameplay became a trend. But if you've played any first-person shooters in the last decade, you've probably noticed that most developers have either abandoned those ideas entirely or significantly toned them down. The focus shifted away from immersive world interaction toward faster pacing, scripted set pieces, and visual spectacle.

And while you're at it, ship it with a robust modding tool. That’s another thing most developers have completely given up on. It could offer a much-needed alternative to the current AAA landscape, which feels increasingly trapped in a cycle of cinematic universes and safe, homogenized content. In a world of "Marvelized" blockbusters, a game that draws inspiration from the experimental spirit of the late 1990 and mid-2000s wouldn’t just be nostalgic,it would be genuinely fresh. Ironically, looking back might be the most forward-thinking move a studio could make right now.

Chocoburger373d ago

Here's something innovative, finish the God damn story. Wow, a concept! Locking a series behind forced innovation is stupid, and stupidity is not innovation.

ZycoFox373d ago

They can have the game be slightly less linear but not too open. HL2 had parts like that, then Episode 2 did it a bit more.

That and expand upon the physics & AI system and further increase the graphics over Alyx and that's pretty much all they gotta do. I hope they release a separate multiplayer part after if not immediately as well, like they did shortly after HL2 released.

Lamusiqa373d ago

1. Dynamic AI for NPC - Supporting character AI that responds to your voice in real-time. Imagine getting pinned down and then just say "Alyx, throw a smoke grenade and give me covering fire!" and then she does it after responding "OK!". How about having a conversation with Alyx?

2. FOV graphical render using NVMe SSD - A graphics rendering feature that is built-in the game engine so that your GPU and CPU only renders what player is seeing. Current graphics engine renders the world beyond the FOV because of hardware limitations in immediate rendering as you pan your camera/view. Having a graphics rendering system that renders graphics instantly and only what you're seeing allows for richer, more detailed worlds or less RAM usage.

Don't do this.

I've waited 100 years

_SilverHawk_376d ago

hopefully its a vr game or has the option to play in vr

TheColbertinator376d ago

The second option hopefully. I haven't played Alyx VR since the VR goggles hurt my eyes.

LordoftheCritics376d ago

Alyx VR was incredible.

Still unmatched

-Foxtrot376d ago

VR as an option - Totally fine.

VR Only - No thanks

I've been a Half Life fan since the original and have waited since 2007 for a sequel, it was already a kick to the nuts to have Half Life Alyx, a game which changes the ending of Episode 2 and will clearly be required to understand the story going forward in HL3, be a VR only title so I don't want a proper, full on sequel to be VR only aswell, it would be highly unfair to the HL fans who either don't like VR, can't afford it or can't do it for whatever reason.

Luckily going off the rumours, HL3 is a more traditional game.

FPS_D3TH375d ago (Edited 375d ago )

Sybau! Lol jk but please only the option. I’m still not buying vr today lol

Amplitude375d ago

It'll probably be VR exclusive with full body tracking sensors and a treadmill required to play

Now we know, why GTA VI got delayed.
Gabe Effect.

ZycoFox376d ago

I wonder if the rumours are true - that it has a highly destructible environment and very reactive with hot/cold with realism placed on wind and other physics, I guess it makes sense, HL2 was very impressive at the time and it carried over into GMOD. That's what I really liked about it, everything built into the engine.

The only thing that might slightly disappoint me is if they don't upgrade the graphics more. I like that Source and Source 2 has such a clean look, I just hope they push it so it's more like Source 2.5 if they haven't budged it up to Source 3. Being (supposedly) the game to finish the original story I hope they go all out if they can while maintaining high frame rates with modern hardware.

badz149375d ago

Source 3? Bold of you to assume Gaben knows how to count to 3

PRIMORDUS376d ago

If this is true I'm going to guess it would be still using the Source 2 engine.

SimpleDad376d ago

I hope!!! Dude... let's go! Can't wait!

RaidenBlack375d ago

We haven't seen the best of Source 2, yet.
No really.
Checked some threads, many features are still WiP.

Plagasx376d ago

GTA 6 and Half Life 3 releasing in the same year?? IMPOSSIBLE.

FPS_D3TH375d ago

6 hours too soon bro. GTA delayed to next year

Profchaos376d ago

It just seems so impossible that after so many years and so many false leaks and rumours this might be it.

I don't know how to feel about this the game has so much weight on it in terms of expectations now half life alyx was amazing so I think they can do it but they would be feeling the pressure

Half-Life 3 Is A Call For More Series To End

If Half-Life ends with 3, it should be a call for more series to wrap it up.

goken409d ago

Oh i agree.
Especially CoD and them annual sport titles 😎

PRIMORDUS409d ago (Edited 409d ago )

Me to I want HL 3 to be the last in the series, it will probably still use the Source 2 engine but I would guess heavily modified. Then you know Valve will release some kind of collectors edition that includes all the games, then years later more remasters 😂

goken409d ago (Edited 409d ago )

Me too. At the rate valve release games, if they did HL4, it would be something like 2050 😱😱😱

goken408d ago

Not only CoD will never end, many of it’s spinoffs never seems to end either.
