Top 5 Things Wii U Needs But Doesn’t Have

Nintendo's upcoming Wii U is sure to shave a few features here and there to reduce its price for consumers, but that doesn't mean that those features wouldn't have been awesome additions to the console's capabilities. Check out GenGAME's list of the top five things Wii U is missing.

"Bonus: Bundle with Included Hard Drive"

If you want a "slightly pricier bundle" buy a cheap External Flash Drive.

It does not have to be in the same box for it to be more expensive. Just buy it seperately- why should Nintendo waste money shipping 2 different models? When people know what SD, Pen Drives and USB Hard Drives are?

Better! THEY ALREADY OWN THEM.

Agreed, I prefer an external hard drive for the very same reason. I already own one.

I actually wouldn't mind if I was forced to buy a Nintendo brand hard drive. I won't need a large one. I just want to get a few of the old Gamecube classics. I like having all my Nintendo games on one machine.

more about those 25gb proprietary optical discs the wii-u will be using. From what i have read, many are saying they arent bluray and others are saying they could be resurected hddvd or possible super high density red laser dvd.

while it may seem cost effective to use bluray as that is an optical standard. nintendo could change things up a bit and use something non-standard aka proprietary. Like they did with the gamecube.

Granted the cube were mini dvd's it makes sense for nintendo to use something that would not be readily available to the pirate/recording market. HDDVD was so close in spec to bluray that they could use the format for their own benefit.

I mean, you dont see hddvd burners on the market like you do bluray. If they went with hvd instead, it too would be some time before we see hvd burners/media on the market. I think it would be more costly to use hvd so the idea of hddvd is more practical.

To be fair, blu and hddvd both used high density discs and blue lasers at slightly different wavelengths to achieve the reading/writing of data. HVD I believe still uses red laser tech but obviously more advanced than traditional dvd9.

Whatever they use, it will be interesting to see how well they put that extra capacity to use. Hopefully we will see the results of that space instead of dvd size games on the bigger discs.

I don't think that the Wii U necessarily needs any of those things. Yea... they'd be nice, especially "the game that blows everything else out of the water" (every console needs that), but nothing on this list is imperative for success.

The Wii U NEEDS the following:

- a reasonable price
- a strong online network
- 3rd party support
- strong first party software

agree with everyone the article is poor because those things dnt guarantee success.

GOOD PRICE
GOOD ONLINE
GOOD GAMES 1ST-3RD PARTY
ATLEAST 2 NEW IP AAA EXCLUSIVE
FANS

this is all the wii needs

well for the "games that blow everything else away" part. I would not expect a 3D mario for a while. mario galaxy 2 is less than 2 years old, and no new Zelda for a while seeing as how Skyward Sword just released in November. I hope Retro is making a Metroid or Star Fox, but not expecting 3D mario or a Zelda game for a while.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Makes sense. It's been nearly 3 years since the DLC for 3 came out. The next Xenoblade or whatever they end up calling it will probably come out next year.
