I have both consoles and tried comparing both demos just for the sheer hell of it. I think I secretly wanted the ps3 to win as I shelled out more cash for it than the 360. Anyway after lots of switching between the two I have decided the 360 version has sharper textures and seems more high res while the ps3 looks blurry in comparison. It's not much just a 5% decrease in quality. It sort of confirms what people have said about the 360s superior graphics card. Although I do prefer the ps3 controller, it just feels a lot easier to control than with the other pad. I think I'll go for the 360 version though.

The only way you would see a difference when playing is if you were 2 inches from your HDTV.

However, they are so close I don't think it's going to make a bit of difference and certainly shouldn't be a critisism of the PS3 hardware.

As an owner of both consoles, I would like to chime in with some things to consider:

1) Static screenshots are nice, as we can scrutinize every single detail for hours on end. In motion, though, I think one will be hard-pressed to find significant differences in graphics. Performance in framerates could also vary widely or remain about the same between the consoles.

2) The Xbox 360's textures look slightly more crisp; however, the bump maps look a bit *too* defined...as in, they're too sharp when showing lit surfaces. A matter of opinion. Another screenshot I saw had the near-field texture on the 360 looking *too* blocky, but their normal map on the enemy was better.

3) Assuming DMC4 forces a 5GB install on PS3 owners, one must wonder if the actual gameplay experience (you know, the thing that actually matters) will be better or worse on Xbox? Will the Xbox cache the game like Oblivion, or stream constantly from DVD like Gears of War? Will you have a menu option to install? Gameplay differences may be moot points or significant. For me, they matter greatly if the Xbox's DVD drive is constantly spinning -- That thing is *loud*, and since I don't turn my TV up very much, it's important for me to consider this.

4) The gameplay difference may boil down to simply which controller you prefer using!

Some other things:

A) The Xbox 360 does *not* have "free AA". This is absolutely false and I could name some great examples without even trying.

B) Having a cool CPU name like "The Cell" doesn't automatically mean it's faster than a tri-core CPU.

C) Having an Xbox game perform better than "The Cell" doesn't automatically mean its CPU is faster -- As in the PS2, the PS3 looks like a pain to program for. It's certainly not in Sony's best interest (short term) to create such a complex monster, but in the long run, assuming the PS3 gains a solid user base, it may pay off.
Time will tell. Until then, realize you play GAMES on consoles; you don't play hardware.

D) People tend to throw around technical terms without having any clue what they're talking about. Please stop this, as you're only making yourself look stupid.

E) Rehashing the same tired bullet points doesn't make your argument any more valid. "OMG enjoy this Xbox users because Sony has BLURAY and you'll have to switch discs 5 times!!11!" is simply fanboyness and has very little on the impact of the gameplay.

Let's assume, for one second, the Xbox *did* have to switch discs -- Do you seriously think this is a major issue? Unless the developers are complete morons and didn't sequentially lay out the game, I'd say "no". You'll have to do the switch once. Big deal.

Comparing those two pictures, the 360 looks better.

Comparing those pictures to the demo running on my PS3 and standard def TV, it looks the same as the 360 pictures. The jags, smudges and blurs just weren't there when I played it myself, especially in the case of that fiery boss. Looked way better than the PS3 comparison photo shown.

IMO there is zero differences unlike Turok (i have that comparison too in case somebody wants to see the veracity of my pics...

Downloaded DMC4 from Japanese store when I came home from work..I do not know if up on the US side I really do not care because I already have it...

Honestly, I don't care. These extremely minimal differences don't change which console i will buy it for. Ill be buying it on PS3 so I can have the whole series playable on one console. Plus, all my 360 time has been devoted to Mass Effect lately.

The PS3 has a *single* core and 7 SPEs. An SPE is *not* a core. It doesn't have the capabilities of the core unit, so you can't claim the PS3 is an "8 core" machine because it's simply not true. The Cell doesn't "dissipate" anything but heat, and maybe some RF signals. FLOPS simply aren't a measure of energy, so I'm not sure where you're going with this.

FLOPS is "floating-point operations/second", not energy. It's not "dissipated" my unlearned friend...it's simply a measurement of how quickly the Cell architecture can pump out floating point calculations. Cell is very speedy at this, everyone knows.

This is why, of course, all of your linked, synthetic benchmarks show the PS3 in a very good light. The Cell *IS* a powerful beast, there is no doubt.

Anyone with computing experience will know, though, that a fast CPU alone does not a fast game machine make. You need fast supporting hardware (RAM, Video processing, buses) and smart software (compilers).
Blindly stating "the cell is more powerful than 360's CPU", while technically true, DOESN'T neccesarily translate into "the PS3 is a more powerful console than the 360". Assuming so would be false.

And yet again, my synthetic-benchmark-linking friend, you would also know there are often times large differences between synthetic benchmark results and real-world performance.

Will the PS3 outperform the 360 in cross-platform games? Maybe one day, who knows?

But, I ask you, what is the true definition of "power"? Higher numbers in synthetic benchmarks, or the ability of software developers to actually harness a console's power effectively?

You can screw around in PS3's browser / Folding all day running ray tracing demos or bending proteins to make yourself feel better, but it doesn't mean jack if this performance advantage can't translate into real-world gaming performance.

(Side note: I like my PS3 better...I do, as a matter of fact I'm giving my 360 to my bro-in-law for his 21st Bday, but that doesn't mean the 360 isn't a powerful gaming machine).

I don't mind comparisons. Just note that these screenshots were taken from Gamersyde.com (user BlimBlim). He captures PS3 video via HDMI through a debug PS3 and also I think a debug 360 (most likely a retail version). The screen captures were taken after creating HD videos and then splicing them to make a comparison (typically what gametrailers will do also).

What's more important is the game in motion. You can argue over staircase jaggy but I'd rather the game play smooth. This was the same argument for Call of Duty 4. I think Capcom has done a fine job with creating two very good versions. The only difference is really the AA if you think about it.

I would love to play it on my 360 but I got my first RROD and will ship it out soon to get it fixed. Sucks for me ... at least I can play it on my reliable PS3. I used to think it would never happen to me since I take care of my systems.

PS3 Graphics, I kept switching back and fourth and looking at the courtyard at the beginning.

Graphic = Bland, softer, Colors do not "pop" at you. Looking at the Rose petals and also during the "Devil May Cry" Title the game looks Hazy/Cloudy.

Controls = Way better on the Dualshock. More fluid during fights.

Controls = While the 360 have the same layout, I would of rather have the "RT" button for lock-on instead of the "RB". While the controls work, I favor the DualShock.

Conclusion, I notice Slashing the sword with "Dante", was a lot quicker on the PS3. Not sure why that is but it feels a Tad faster. When you go near that alter and use the "Evil Hand" I noticed a little slow down on the 360 during that scene. Just look at the Rings.

So if I was getting the game today, I would sacrifice the "Graphics", "Achievements", "Rumble" on the 360 version and go with gameplay mechanism and fluidity on the PS3. I will not buy a game I cannot enjoy physically playing.

Just played the 360 version and its beautiful and plays extremely smooth.

@42.2 all those flops and calculations mean nothing. its all mumbo jumbo to make the billion dollor tech sound better. Its what the tech can do in real world situations and so far the "cell" hasn't paid off. Sony developed the cell and bluray to corner those markets and only bluray is winning. If the cell was such a great chip as sony says than it word be in my pc or in a mac.I'm not saying its not impressive or anything but its not the god chip that people make it out to be. Whoever made this post is a complete liar, the game looks identical on both systems. I have played the demo on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, the textures and anti aliassing are the same for both. This is another attemp by scared little Xbox 360 fanboys to make people believe the PS3 is not as good as the Xbox 360.

I do not think all people who enjoy the Xbox 360 are fanboys, I enjoy both the PS3 and Xbox 360. There is no reason to be disshonest, both consoles are great and both will be around for a long time and both will have great playing and great looking games.

It has no doubt been said before but its very interesting and a bit sad how you can be in denial when you are a ps3 owner. You were lead to believe you were buying the most powerful console. But the evidence for that does not exist in game after game. Thus some of the comments above.
I've been there (before I bought a 360 because of a lack of games on the ps3), it's not a pleasant feeling to know you've been taken in by hype. But it's better to be honest and just admit the truth. Theres no shame in that. I think the consensus on other sites and what I have played myself is the 360 looks sharper, the ps3 plays better. Yes it doesnt matter so much but as with anything you want the best rather than second best. We're always after the best.
I think if I just owned the ps3 it is best not to look at these comparison sites because it usually leads to you feeling depressed. Be content with your version (ps3). It will probably play better.

This is the problem with comparison screenshots or videos, we can't trust anybody anymore.

I think the bottom line is if they both play great that's the main issue. I can't trust these shots because it is a forum post, an unreliable source and this contradicts what we have heard from major game sites and blogs saying that they pretty much look the same.

Buy the version for whatever system you got and be happy. If you got both then its up to your controller preference or whatever system you like best.

Why are the tiniest graphical differences on 3rd party games such a big deal to you clowns?

Yet 1st party games like Halo3 (Jaggies, slow framerate, building blocklevel design) Mass Effect (framerate. texture pop in) Forza (JAGGIES, JAGGIES, JAGGIES, I have to yell and repeat they're so bad) dont seem to bother you at all.

Yet 1st party Sony games Resistance., Motorstorm, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet are ALL smooth as butter, ALL jaggies free but you guys all dismiss them because apparently sales are all that matter.

I dont mind having something better than what other people have, even if not as many people bought it. It has a lot to do with the user base you know. And the fact Bots buy anything at all. Even Perfect Dark Zero and Marvel Alliance has sold more than Uncharted, if you seriously think they're better games, you're a loser and a liar.

PS3 can do some great stuff graphically, I've seen it with Uncharted and Rachet & Clank.

But the fact remains that games that are cross platform are a weakness for PS3.

I think the way the games are made to work on both consoles, just don't work to PS3's advantage. But it's the development also not the console.

Burnout Paradise looks better on PS3, because of the way that team went about development. So you have to understand it's the way the developer chooses to go about it.

I remember that guy when I was a member of PS3 Forums; the Administrators were forced to ban him for posting false information (and it's pretty damn hard to get banned from that site).

From what I've heard, the 360 version was improved quite a bit from the last round of previews and both the PS3 and 360 versions look identical. The only tangible difference is that the PS3 has faster load times, thanks to the Hard Drive install option and the two systems have different controllers (choose your favorite).

The PS3 version is really good. I use HDMi on my PS3. Great contrast, very detailed environments. Just want to also point out that it was an Xbot who first complained about the games being better on his RROd prone box. I also feel sad for those xbites who paid $50 and are not able to download this incredible game that we as Sony fanboys use to enjoy on our mega hit console the PS2. The game coming out for us both. Look at all the PS3 fanatics turn on the 360 attacking, ignoring that its the PS3 thats the problem, this is a PS3 game ported over to a console that has capabilities the PS3 does not have.

The games look the same. Each system has its strengths and weaknesses and it will show no matter which game is released. As far as the screens of both versions paying them on a tv you cant tell a graphical deifference. but a screenshot shows a slight advantage to the 360. But who cares.

Anyone who says the 360 is a piece of crap is on crack. My 2 launch models have been running strong without any problems.As for halo I didnt have any frame rate problems and the graphic were fine for me. I didnt buy it for the graphics I bought it because its the best online game for a console, "well was the best till cod4"

Seems like the Dualshock buttons are "Depressed" a lot Quicker then your 360 controller counterpart.

The Dualshock buttons are so easy when pressing down naturally, they bounce back rather quick, as with the 360 the button is round and thick and needs to be "depressed" deeper to make the connection. Maybe it's Wear and Tear.

And I'll stress again the 360 is more detailed, sharper..I'm not sure what gamers are looking at? Some seem to think they look exactly alike. I mean it's not a big deal, neither should it be a deal breaker since the PS3 handles much better but that's the consensus throughout.

I can't tell the difference in graphics one bit. I am comparing them on 2 1080p Samsungs side by side at the same time. There are differences but they are a wash.

Once place nobody can argue is the controls. The PS3 version is spot on and everything works flawlessly. On the 360 version they are a little sluggish and sometimes the character walks when he should be sprinting.

These screenshots shown in this article are complete garbage and taken by an obvious fanboy, period. Even side by side you have to struggle to see the differences.

It's going to be another one of those purchase it for the system you own or weigh the pros and cons between the 2.

P.S. I played the DMC4 Demo Today at 2 of my friends houses. One with a PS3, One with a 360! Both Version of DMC4 play the same!

Sony fans will say this is fake. 360 fans will so no it's not.

Why is it when a Ps3 game looks a little better it is because of:

the Cell
RSX
better ram
and what ever else

when the 360 version looks a little better it is because:

the ps3 version was a port
they had more time to make the 360 version

I never heard anyone go "The 360 version of Burnout Paradise looks better, they are only using the wrong cables/settings. That's why it seems like the PS3 version has an edge."

I just played the demo and I douubt ill even buy it. Seemed alot like dmc3 but prettier. It was only 10 min though so ill defiantly rent it and give it a try. I just cant get over how corny #3 was (twirling through the air on a table shotting things and screaming "lets party," or some vin diesel shi# like that) and hope this is better.

I dont have a ps3. I think the 360 version is very good looking. I am sure the ps3 is equally good. For whatever system you prefer you shouldn't be disappointed.

For anyone that hasn't played God of War please do so. If you like Devil May Cry you will love God of War. The story is FAR better, the action is intense but not as confined as Devil May Cry but definately more brutal. Also I dont see how anyone is getting excited about this game because it is essentailly the same as 3 and 1.

So as naturally the way these things go it is ported, similar but more professional than the Orange Box. Both graphics cards in the PS3 and XBOX differ in how they display polygons, Modified OpenGL and DirectX for each console but the end result is just as good as you're display. Jaggies are a fact of gaming regardless, I played the Xbox demo and seen loads, maybe some are slightly more smoothed out but this is not a cause for such rampant platform and fanboy bashing. Ha ha... you have all wasted you're time listening to this bull just like me, I have ignored the idiots and this site is much better for the ignor button. This game will tide me over until Ninja Gaiden! Along with Bioshock I will play this alot and it seems well worth my hard earned cash. Many thanks again Capcom for a great game shared from the PS3 owners catalogue. I hope Bioshock comes to the playstation 3 to return the favour. May the seed of you're loins be fruitful in the belly of your woman Capcom!

I downloaded both PS3 and 360 DMC 4 demo. I was very impressed with both demos. I was a little worried about the 360 version. Being that the PS3 version was being made 2 years a head of it. But they did a excellent job in fixing up the 360 version. Great Job Capcom. I have much respect for that company. One of the more talented developer companys.
Their was no screen tearing or frame rate issues, nothing on the 360 version. Both versions were near flawless. And the 360 controls are very good. I quickly adapted to it.
Looks like we both win today.

The PS3 version was ahead in development when 1up and pals made that comment like I said PS3 had already been worked on before the Xbox version was even thought of. The Xbox has tools to develope for it fast in comparison.

Not to mention they basically look identical and you wont be able to tell the difference while you are playing.
I still dont know what system Ill get it for but I heard the PS3 version has a better framerate plus the controller is more fit for this game. Honestly I really dont give a damn I just want to play this game.
