Avi Arad on the “Uncharted” movie and why he passed on “Halo”

It’s no secret that veteran movie and television producer Avi Arad has played an important role — possibly one of the most important — in bringing comic book movies to the point they are today. Not only did the former CEO and founder of Marvel Studios help bring Marvel out of bankruptcy in the late ’90s, but his efforts to bring Marvel superheroes from the page to the screen paved the way for much of the characters’ rise to mainstream prominence in recent years.

Over the weekend, Arad was in town promoting his latest page-to-screen project, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” a reboot of the popular Marvel Comics character’s big-screen franchise that casts Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network”) as wall-crawling, web-slinging nerdy superhero Peter Parker. Along with telling IFC all about the new film — which is directed by “500 Days of Summer” filmmaker Marc Webb — Arad also shared some thoughts with IFC about the other genre he’s been mining for movie projects lately: video games.

"We have a great director,” said Arad of the film. “So in anticipation, I’m accumulating the kind of games that I’m personally interested in from a story standpoint. They have to have a story.”"

It's not about the director...hell you could have Steven Spielberg attached and I would still have doubts....I mean honestly has Neil actually played the games, he says he has but in interviews it sounds like he dosen't know what he's talking about. It's about picking the right actors for the parts and having a good story that stays true to the games...basicaly using source material not trying to change everything. Honestly you could take Amy Hennigs script and tweak it during the gameplay moments and unneccesary parts and you could be set to go.

Hopefully they'll get Nolan North to play Drake and then Emily and Richard to play their parts aswell.

yes its about directors at times. look at sam raimi spider man. it would of been different if they went with someone else.

"It's about picking the right actors for the parts and having a good story "

....thats also the responsibility of the director as well.

trying to convey the kind of depth and quality of story within a set amount of time. You just cant tell the story of a game in a 2hr+/- movie.

If they were to film all the movies at the same time and then release them in series would work. That is a costly commitment that not every studio/production house can afford.

i do they get the people who did the video game to do the movie, but if not can i say to use Nathan Fillion to be drake

THC CELL4938d ago (Edited 4938d ago )

People need to watch lockout before they pick there drake http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Grimhammer004938d ago

Guy Pearce could definitely do justice to Drake....but he'd need to bulk down a bit. He was huge in lockout!

Nolan North and Nathan Fillion are both too old to play Drake now. It just wouldn't be believable and would fall flat.

Emily and Richard, on the other hand, would be perfect.

Drake is an athletic guy, you can't just throw a guy in his 40's into the role, especially if they're thinking of it becoming a franchise. I love both actors and would love to see them in other stuff, but their time has passed for this movie.

Edit: After watching that Lockout trailer, I think Guy Pearce could definitely pull it off. He's still old, though, but at least he's athletic and can pull off the humor.

Course you can

All actors bulk up before they play a role. If Nolan got cast I bet he would work his arse off to look right for the role...hell the guy does rock climbing now he fitness wise he's already in shape.

Anyway I couldn't care less how old Nolan is...it's his charm and voice which makes Drake so likable. Thats all that matters

PS3 got a bad rap because of the price. I bought it day one (I was very lucky). A Blu-ray player was more expensive than the PS3 at the time around 800$+

badz14914d ago

And that was for a standalone player with no internet connectivity. A network enable BD players like the PS3 was, were around $1000 at the time

Mr Logic14d ago

That's true, but it gets worse. I remember seeing independent analysis from CNET or something like that. They concluded that PS3 was not only the cheapest, but also had the best video quality of any BD player.

Good to see there is an improvement despite the challenges plaguing this generation.

At the end of year 5, the ps3 received a pricecut making the 160GB model $250 and the 320G GB model $300.

I miss those days when there was not so much demand for microchips and the prices of things generally came down.

Now everything seems to be a smart device with very few companies to supply the needed chips.

Why compare to the PS3? The machine was a total abortion.

Comparing to 4 would be best being it’s the previous generation and was hugely successful.

NotoriousWhiz13d ago

There is a ps5 to ps4 comparison. The PS4 currently has a narrow lead.

you are right, that's why it outsold 360

anast12d ago

Because it's being compared to everything...This is how this game writing goes...

we should also not forget what shitstorm the ps3 got cause of the price bk then

it was still a phenomenal console

Ninver12d ago

Western media did everything in their power to destroy the ps3. They shiited on its price and made fun of the CELL (I'm surprised there wasn't more dbz memes) calling it alien hardware. Still it gave us games like Uncharted 2 and TLOU.
