DayZ standalone retail version "a certainty", says developer

It’s “a certainty” that popular and much-acclaimed ArmA II zombie mod DayZ will become its own retail game later this year, according to its developer. The only question, he says, is who it will be to officially release it.

I wonder if there will be a version of DayZ with Arma III. The animations are pretty poor in Arma II from what I've seen and I think the Arma III will correct that

Trunkz5039d ago (Edited 5039d ago )

It's already confirmed there will be DayZ for ArmA III, but not at launch of the game, and the engine will be new so it will be easier to stop hackers.

This game has been #1 in the Steam top sellers for so many weeks it's amazing how so many people have said Mods are dead yet this game has given this small company so much money, and they deserve it for all the hard work they've put in since the original Operation Flashpoint (2001).

DayZ will be the first game I get as soon as I get a capable PC. Can't wait!

But I'm wondering whether to wait for the Arma III one. God knows how much time it will take but it will be infinitely better

The zombies are glitchy as hell. I've been killed in the most frustrating ways possible, through floors, walls, doors. Still a great mod regardless.

What irritates me the most is how the zombies zig-zag back and forth when running towards you. You can't turn around and just shoot them, you have to wait until they reach you to be able to hit them, and then they hit you and you start bleeding.

TheDareDevil5039d ago

@pulsuhundr I know right? I haven't played the game yet(thanks to my crappy PC) but watching youtube vids of this game, the zombies run really quickly and weirdly. I prefer the slower paced zombies of the Walking Dead(they seem to be more realistic, ironic I know)

This will be great, day 1 for me

This game makes me want to build my first PC, looks really addictive

Any suggestions for someone in there infantile stage :D

Wizziokid5039d ago

Yeah same, I would build a PC but I just don't have the time to do that with my next year of uni coming up.

I'm not a pro at the whole PC build anyway ;) check out http://www.scan.co.uk/value... this is where I plan to get my new PC from, I'm looking at the G30 system with an added SSD and maybe a different GFX card if I have the money, if not though that card should be good enough for anything at the moment.

you can pick your parts they build it and ship it to you

I've put around 60 hours in to the alpha so far, as a retail game with even more features I think I would lose my life in this game!

Banok5039d ago

Well I bought arma 2 for £30 just to play this mod (fyi its now £15 of BIS site), so it kind of sucks that I'm going to have to buy the game again. but I'm sure it will be worth it, mod has too much potential!

papashango5039d ago

that's not how it works bro...

-MD-5039d ago

Kind of dumb of them to say this though isn't it? I was gonna buy Arma 2 but now I'll hold off.

SlickShoes5039d ago

It's only in alpha just now, its going to be a good year or more before this makes it as a game on its own, so people will still buy ARMA2 now just to get to try it out, it's only £20.

LewisDenby5039d ago

They're talking about releasing some time this year - probably in a Minecraft-esque model.

Wizziokid5039d ago

They are looking to release it in September this year in the Alpha stage

DayZ Frostline DLC Gets Review Bombed; Dev Says “No One is Forcing Players to Buy It”

DayZ Frostline DLC gets review-bombed for its price and content. Dev responds, saying "No one is forcing players to buy it."

diana45peters513d ago

Yes, I saw that! The DayZ Frostline DLC has indeed faced a lot of backlash from players who feel that the $26.99 price tag is too high for what's included. The DLC adds a new snow-covered map called Sakhal, but many players feel it doesn't offer enough new content to justify the cost.

Bohemia Interactive's CEO, Marek Spanel, responded to the criticism by pointing out that the studio has received very little revenue per hour of gameplay from the game over the years. He even referenced the Beatles song "Please Please Me" in his response, highlighting the frustration with the situation.

It's definitely a heated debate.
