TOTW: Mass Effect 2

The Normandy has landed on Tune of the Week!

This is the 25th Edition of Tune of the Week!

When choosing a game for this week’s Tune of the Week, I knew right away it had to be a game that achieves exquisite story telling, gorgeous visuals, unmatched gameplay, and a breathtaking soundtrack. That game had to be Mass Effect 2.

Jack Wall is the main Composer behind Mass Effect 2, he hired a team to help him create the all inspiring soundtrack behind Mass Effect 2. In an interview Jack Wall describes the Suicide Mission as “the best thing I have ever been a part of.”

I just got Mass Effect 2 yesterday for PS3.

MasterD9195050d ago

My favorite game of the series.

I even found the soundtrack to be far more superior than ME1 and 3.

PopRocks3595050d ago

Funny thing is ME1 had the same composer and ME3 had a new one. I personally thought they all had decent soundtracks, but that's just me.

MasterD9195050d ago (Edited 5050d ago )

You are absolutely correct that they all had great soundtracks. Clint Mansell and Sam Hulick are musical genius's. Clint Mansell alone...what a composer to have working on your game!

But with ME3 came a different sounding tone to the soundtrack. The scores were fitting of the Reaper invasion and were epic. Whereas in ME2, the tracks really had a sci-fi, abstract feel. They fit the tone of the game perfectly. I personally couldn't get enough of that in ME2.

Just pure awesome sounding music all around though. Enjoy it all!

@MasterD919

Ahh, Clint Mansell. That explains a lot. I love the rock theme he wrote for the rather atrocious Doom movie. I looked into his work after that and I've loved most, if not all of it.

But yes, I agree with you on ME3's somber soundtrack. The trilogy was incredible over all in my opinion, even if the conclusion was not what I really hoped for or expected.

I found it interesting how the Mass Effect2 soundtrack was more action oriented and the Mass Effect 3 soundtrack had more Piano and a sad tone to it.
I wonder what would have happened if Jack Wall worked on the games soundtrack.

My absolute favorite track from ME is the Galaxy Map music. So hypnotic!

stecarter915050d ago

Sent one of my mates to sleep so it must be good!

linkenski5050d ago

ME definitely peaked in ME2. My favorite runner-up track from the game has got to be "Normandy Reborn" which plays when joker reveals the Normandy SR2.

TGF_Zero5050d ago

Yeah "Normandy reborn" is great. When It has such a heroic feel to it.
I also love the Illusive Man theme. It makes him more of a boss when his dialogue sequences are playing out. :)

linkenski5041d ago

Yeah that track can really send chills down your spine!

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine512d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast512d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman512d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast511d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave760d ago (Edited 760d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
