Meh, my 360 has lived for 2 years now and theres 3 stories on this thing. I will only approve one of them as I want their to be more gaming news, not gonna let it be like the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray stories just flooding the whole site with the same crap in a few different words.

Of course the 360 is faulty I know that, I guess I'm a lucky gamer. My PS2 worked fine for 5 years while alot of other people had broken PS2's.

i am on xbox number 3, but have found the microsoft support guys to be very good (i live in the uk). i have had my console returned within 2 weeks both times it was repaired.

i would still rather have a 360 than a ps3 though, but thats just a matter of personal taste.

i have played on friends ps3 and i dont like the controllers (no rumble!?!?! wtf)

If this happened to me I wouldnt even accept a repair on the first breakdown. I would be demanding a replacement or my money back, which I would be entitled to.

It will be very interesting to see what happens when those 3 year warranties start ending. Will they buy another 360? or will they get a PS3? I guess by that time the average 360 gamer will have 20+ games so I can imagine them geting another 360 or else all those games will be useless. However they might go as far as to sell all those games and opt for a different console.

My launch 360 lasted 18 monthes, and when it ringed out, I was sent a brand spanking new console. It works just fine.

the 360 engineer, now's a good time to do so. I've seen recalls on products with a 10% failure rate, so I don't see why Microsoft isn't doing the same (30% failure rate for the Xenons, 10% failure rate for the new Falcons).

It's clear that Xbox 360 was rushed to market and the design not tested anywhere near thoroughly enough, Microsoft made the choice to cut corners in order to beat Sony to market and unfortunately it shows.

They should really have been forced to do a complete recall until such a time that the design and manufacturing were fixed, replacing defective units with other defective units is just rubbing salt into the wounds of consumers.

I for one will be very wary should they release a follow-up console - once burned, twice shy etc.

Legit or not, this is an issue that should concern all true gamers. While it might be fun to pile on about 360 workmanship, that's been played out and is old. I sympathize with this guy and his family. At the end of the day we bought the system we did so we can enjoy the things it has to offer be it games, movies, HD, internet, online interaction, etc. And this could happen to anyone, regardless of system. I hope Microsoft can find a way to solve these issues, and I hope Sony is taking notes as they can easily find themselves in a similar predicament. Whatever system you own, you should hope the other can compete on a level playing field because it will drive the manufacturers to emphasize quality in output: games, service, etc.

i was a die hard sony fan and when 360 came out i loved it my has broken down once. but things are going down for xbox slowly when you think about it why do they make so many xbox's. and now theres a new one coming out come on. all you guys saying xbox ix still better your just stubborn and ignorant. i finally brought a ps3 and honestly its amazing. they have great titles but not as much as xbox but it wil get there soon. so my advice too you is forget xbox and buy ps3. blu ray is amazing by the way

After 2 breaks I would call it quits seriously. Ive never had a console with any problems. My ps2 is fine and never had any problems. I bought an Xbox 1 for 40 bucks from my work. (most i would pay*). I only use it as a DVD player, nothin else. Maybe some people just dont take care of their consoles and they're idiots? That could be it.

I know I have my ps3 well ventilated and i dust it occasionally. I expect it to last as long as my ps2 did. I respect MSFT for their products they have produced in the passed but when they entered the console market I was a little concerned. If someone gave me a 360, sure, I'd use it, I wouldnt spend my hard earned cash on it though ._.

It's just silly if you don't think its a big problem for a console to break down that much.

just sent the 5th back to MS Monday. Lucky for him he had a spare. he won a heros edition from a decal girl sweepstakes. I had an issue with my Wii where the graphics on all my games were stuttering but Nintendo has a repair center in Chattsworth, CA and I'm in LA so I just took a 40 minute drive out there and Let the techs do their do and I had to wait about 30 minutes before my Wii was handed back to me in tip top shape minutes later. Big N has Awsome customer service. My PS3 gives me no trouble at all.

The XBOX 360.............. SHOULD BE RECALLED . Redesigned and introduced as a reliable product.

Only then will this nightmare subside. ( and I will buy One For sure )

I`ve had 2 consoles that RRODed on me, and both times i went and bought a new one. I can`t put up with the hustle of warranty, and i couldn`t wait for 3 weeks with no playing games and i don`t think is too expensive now. I wonder how many people of the wealthier society can`t put up with customer service and buy a new one instead. And all that counts towards total sales.

Maybe you guys should donate your 360's to Microsofts Research Division. Because yours are the only ones that aren't having the problem. A Large number of people do have RROD issues thats the problem. You dont speak for everyone who owns a RRODbox.

my 360 broke on me three different times. when i first bought it from costco i took it home and it wouldnt read any disks. went back and exchanged it. second time i already had it for about 6 months then the same thing happened to the new xbox, cant read disc error. the third time almost a year after i bought it, i got the rrod. i try now not to play it as much cause i dont want it to brake on me again.

Eventually he'll get one back with the new Heatsink and MoBo. Me personally have had my launch 360 Red Ring once and it's worked fine since. It even came back with a quieter disk drive. But during the time of repair, I went out and bought an Elite 360 because my other 360 red ringed One day before Halo 3 was released. Imagine that?

Who disagreed? Haha, this really happened. So am I a Sony Droid for saying my 360 red ringed or am I an Xbot for saying he'll most likely get a better 360 with better tech back in due time? Come on N4G's finest, which one am I now?

the 360 has great games but the hardware design and quality control is utterly crap, resulting in possibly the most unreliable piece of consumer electronics in history.

People often remind us of early PS2's DVD drive but that was nothing by comparison and we're going into the 3rd year of XBox life cycle now and still there are loads of issues.

I'm surprised that some governing body hasn't pulled MS on this issue.

BTW:I happen to own a launch unit and it still works but I know loads of people who've had RROD and faulty DVD drives.

Drop down to less than 5%. That's the mark when I'll consider it "safe" to get a 360. The new falcon chips seem to do better but wasn't it the gpu that was the problem? Either way my PS3 will continue to entertain until I can game on both.

Maybe I am one of the fortunate ones who have not been doomed by the RROD (knock on wood) but I did have a disk drive problem where it would stick. After calling Microsoft, they promptly sent me a box and I shipped it out for repair. I had the console back within two weeks and a free month of Live Gold. Fortunately for me, they didn't repair the console. Instead I received a new console and haven't had any problems with it at all.

What does this have to do with this article? Well, I believe that Microsoft could, and should, do better than this! For some reason, maybe its the outsourcing of U.S. jobs, but their customer service lacks professionalism and most of the time I can't understand what people are saying on the other end of the line because of heavy foreign accents. I hope this guy gets a new console for his trouble and Microsoft doesn't repeat all of these problems when they come out with a new console.

You live in the states and it takes a couple of weeks to get your unit back. But where i live. It took 2 months for 2 of my friends to get their units back as they had to send it to Australia to fix it. I was thinking the other day that this PROD might actually be the main reason why the x360 is not doing to well in the rest of the world where it normally takes months to get them fixed. Its a huge issue for some of us.

But I do not think this is a call to PS3 fan boys to start acting like used car sales men.

The main reason for this type of PS3fanboy (MAINLY FROM THE USA) behavior is the fact that the 360 is so popular even with the issues that plague the hardware. In the US the PS3 user base is out numbered about 3 to 1. So all this desperation you see from the PS3 fan base is some what understandable. People buy what they want.

Over the holiday season every one I know who is into video games bought a 360, even the people who owned PS3’s. Most of the people who bought PS3’s did not even buy games they bough Blu Ray. The 360 is the videogames machine ever one knows this.

I just got a 360 last week and I do worry Ill get the RROD every time I turn it on.
I do take extremely good care of my systems and they get a lot of air, my 360 doesnt really heat that much, only the back of it gets hot and I have the second model made in august 07. It makes a good 2nd console just in case something goes wrong you will have a back up.

11 days? Thats hard to believe. The lowest I know of from the people I know is 6 months.

I won't make excuses for MS, the hardware issues have been a disaster for them. I've not had any problems with my 360(yet) and it's going on 2 years. But I won't lie and say there isn't a problem, but these posts serve no purpose. The horse has been beat to death. The only thing a post like this does is allow Sony droids to do their bashing. This post is at 900 degrees right now and I would say only about %3 of the comments are from Xbox 360 owners.

I would still buy a 360 over a PS3 as many have chosen to do. I own both and if I just owned a PS3, I know how much I would be missing.
