Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC – A Second Chance to Save A Failed Ending

After the major backlash from gamers concerning Mass Effect 3′s original endings, developers Bioware finally released the extended edition of each ending as a free download that consist of almost 1.9GB of data!

They are intended to give players a better insight as to what happens after the epic conclusion to an epic game and an epic series. The original endings sorely disappointed gamers and fans around the world because of their briefness and also lack of closure, failing to provide players with a satisfactory ending and leaving gamers clueless as to what happened to their relationships that they’d built up over 3 whole games!

A second attempt to save a failed ending that just isn't going to change the opinion of gamers like myself.

I mean, I lost faith in the franchise with ME2 and can note multiple instances besides ME3's ending where Bioware either didn't care, couldn't afford to do something right or weren't given the time to do it right. That plus the fact they overhype and misdirect means I'll pick up a title from them on a casual - used - basis.

Just because I'm curious, what didn't you like about Me2?

krazykombatant5081d ago

There are plenty of things not to like in ME2, the shallow story, lacking antagonist eg no back and forth like saren/sovereign. Going back to ammo??!?!??!?!???

changed the game from very big scope and gave the world an open feeling to walking hallways and going from conversation to just pew pew pew pewing all the time. ummmmmmm lets see you're decisions not being worth 2 shits. There is plenty to go on. ME is still the best of that franchise and one of the last great games BioWare churned out.

Its not that I didn't like it but rather I couldn't help noticing things which took me out of story narrative. The worst being the bit where everyone piles into a shuttle and the Normandy being boarded soon after.

Let me repeat that: the Collectors locate a ship they've destroyed once before with no warning or attempt to capture, board it doing no damage to it then let it escape. Nevermind that the Normandy's main and most obvious hatch seems right by the bridge where Joker was.

Like I said, generally a good game, but just too much happens for convenience sake.

Can people stop crying about this now? If you think that Bioware don't care about this series then you need your head checked. One good thing about this whole "boo hoo, I don't like how they ended the trilogy, boo hoo, I'm gonna throw my toys out of the pram" issue is hopefully the pre-teens who say they won't buy anymore Bioware games will keep their word so that the rest of us don't have to listen to them crying again when Bioware make the next Mass Effect. It's sickening.

I for one am not really wasting my time trying to argue about this anymore, the game had its ups and downs and this ending while it did improve on the one before its a pathetic "get out of jail free card".

The only reason I don't like it is because Bioware didn't deliver on the the epic conclusion they promised, that is all I know not to bother with anymore of their b.s for a long time.

Idk about you but I played this franchise over and over till every sequel came out, and now I have these 3 games just sitting there doing nothing, my favorite franchise of all time shit upon by "artistic integrity".

People act as if this new content changes the ending, it doesn't. It elaborates a bit more on the ending, I didn't mind the original ending, I think this whole thing was blown out of proportion. I like the idea of having to think and possibly come up with my own theories. Never before had my gamer friends and I debated over what the ending meant. I think it meant different things for different people.

Great series as a whole and ME3 was a fantastic journey.

"Never before had my gamer friends and I debated over what the ending meant."

I guess you haven't played that many games then...

And the ending of ME3 makes people think and reflect mainly because of the enormous plotholes. It's result of a poor writing and story-telling, not a phenomenal cliffhanger or climax that some people believe.

When I played the ME3 ending, the choices remind me of inFAMOUS 2 and all that mystic and psychological thing reminded me of Evangelion.

The game build itself do well to the end "This is it" was being heard from every character and then it ends like that? I love ME, but that was pure bs.

ChunkyLover535081d ago

I've been gaming since 1987, so I think I have definitely played my fair share of games since then.

There are a ton of games throughout gaming's history that have been a big screw you to everyone. How about Mario Bro's 2 and the "Its just a dream?" ending. Or the KOTOR 2 ending that wasn't even complete?

The Mass Effect series was one of the top new franchises this generation and the only thing ME3's ending showed me was how absolutely spoiled a lot of gamers have become.

People act as if the ending diminished the hundreds of hours that most of us put into this amazing series, it doesn't.

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast536d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman536d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast536d ago
