Left 4 Dead - Cold Stream DLC release date

8bitfix says - The game may be almost 3 years old, but that does not mean that Valve is done with it! Valve has just announced that the Cold Stream DLC is finally getting release next month!

dazzrazz5065d ago

Very nice to see valve supporting L4D for such a long time

VanillaBear5065d ago

Well the second game anyway

The first game they said they would still support they decided to kill off soon after they released L4D2...it's funny how the boycott group turned out to be right in the end

They first spilt the community, they then killed off one of the main characters and now they seemed to just stop supporting it all together.

jeeves865065d ago

Almost all of the first game's levels are available as DLC in the second game. DLC for PC is free, too. I'll take that.

ginsunuva5065d ago

It's so strange. L4D2 came out a year after the first, but now they support the second? Maybe they wanted to see if they could get away with yearly rehashes, but they realized the Steam community weren't braindead (no pun intended) like the xbox one.

Rubberlegs5065d ago

They did still support the first game after L4D2 came out. The Sacrifice was added and was supported for both games and The Last Stand was a free dlc horde map.

There is also plenty of good user created maps for both games on the PC. Really its the console version that gets no support since Valve has to charge for it so they wait to release a big dlc pack.
Just like the blog said all the maps from the first game that are already released on the PC are coming to the 360 version but it probably won't be free.

boyzilla5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

@ vanillabear

are you seriously still sour about valve releasing l4d2?

There's no way you can deny that l4d2 is anything less than a sequel with the new content they've added. Be it melee weapons, new special infected, characters, maps, firearms, bile bombs, mutations, etc. To me, that sounds like way more than any DLC I've heard of.

Not to mention it's only $20 right now, and has been on sale for about $6 plenty of times.

They tried something different, got some negative feedback from folks like you, and learned from it. That's why L4D2 currently has pretty much all of the content from the original embedded within it.

So don't go saying they "split" the community, if you're one of the "split" community members whining about it still, you either haven't found a job within the last 2-3 years or are just too lazy to find some quarters buried in your couch to buy the game when it's on sale.

As far as them killing off Bill? That's something called storytelling. Since you've even bothered to mention it, they obviously have your attention, shock factor at it's finest. I'd hate to see how you'd react to The Walking Dead comics. :P

pandaboy5065d ago

You must have bought l4d on the wrong platform vanillabear. It's practically a crime to play this game on xbox when you can do so much more on PC.

Why does it say L4D2??
This DLC is for the first Left 4 Dead..........

Sgt_Slaughter5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

Um... what? It says it right on Valve's website through the freakin' link! L4D2 is right.

STONEY45065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

Clearly he is right and I'm going insane, since I've been playing the map on PC in L4D2, not L4D1 for over 6 months.

WetN00dle695064d ago

The fuck is wrong with you???
Getting all butt hurt over a small little fck up!
Some of you need to leave your PC and go outside more often.

@Pandaboy

yeah i agree its way better on PC. Except for split screen.

Seriously, i was so disappointed to see that the PC version had no spilt screen. Im not playing L4D on my own, and my friends dont have gaming PCs. I can connect 4 controllers to the PC. A few games support it.

I'll never in my life understand why L4D and CoD for the PC leave the feature out. There actually no reason.

If i were to rebuy L4D i would get it for 360, simply for the split screen.

decrypt5064d ago

PC version does have split screen. Google it up its there.

jeeves865065d ago

Obligatory Half Life 3 comment.

STONEY45065d ago

ALL THE TIME AND WORK PUT IN THIS MAP COULD HAVE ADVANCED HALF LIFE 3 FROM A 2020 RELEASE TO A 2019 RELEASE DATE. WHY VALVE, WHY?

Patriots_Pride5064d ago

2019 release date would have been nice but then Gabe would not have anything to troll us with.

Megaton5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

Whaaa? I swear I played this like a year ago with several people from N4G.

Timmer5065d ago

There's a beta map available, but with the release of the full map, things might be different.

AgreeFairy5065d ago

I'd rather have L4D3 (only if they make it more like L4D1).

user54670075065d ago

With L4D characters

I don't care that Bill is dead, I'm sure they could make it so the DLC was just a "What If" scenario where the old survivors went south instead of North...

Non Cannon = Bill being Alive

Win/Win

AO1JMM5065d ago

Awesome but I want HL3 already....lol

OG Left 4 Dead Creator Announces He's Working On A New Multiplayer Shooter

Following Left 4 Dead's undying legacy, the developer of the game shares that a new likewise project is in the works.

ZycoFox255d ago

L4D had potential to be so much more. The issue was that the release of the second game just one year after the first added a decent amount of content which was much needed, then there was nothing except for a few small content updates spread far between.

This is one of the only games I can think of that benefits from a yearly release, or at least a yearly DLC so it doesn't split the player base.

The games just got too samey and lack content.. it's a shame they didn't keep up the pace, I know you can download new maps but it doesn't change the overall game or add new enemies etc.

-Foxtrot255d ago

Regardless of what Valve officially said they didn’t need to do a sequel that fast, things could have easily been added to the original overtime and the sad thing is the characters and atmosphere of the original was better than the sequel. I mean we went from the dark, grim city streets to the sunny south where we are hitting massive menacing tanks with frying pans.

I honestly believe Valve killed it because it was a Turtle Rock game at its core and Valve wanted it to be known as an Valve only IP moving forward

They even brought back the original survivors just to kill one of them off (even though in the original they were heading North to Canada)

JEECE254d ago

Lol L4D2 came out in 2009, and you are saying it should have been a 2020s type live service game. It's just a great game, it doesn't need battle passes and skins.

This attitude is why devs are afraid to make any multiplayer game that isn't a live service.

Jingsing254d ago (Edited 254d ago )

Also in these current economic times live services is just a no go when people are being more frugal with their purchasing power. I don't do any subscription services anymore which means I can't do multiplayer on a console even if I wanted too. Something the console manufacturers should think about if they want to get players to even try their online stuff.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies747d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken747d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing69748d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker748d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo748d ago (Edited 748d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing69748d ago (Edited 748d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos748d ago (Edited 748d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt747d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken747d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
