Playstation's best thing is that is owned by SONY. I love Playstation since the days of PS1. These idiots gamers try to find every little thing to bash SONY. Like installs for everything you download, I shouldn't have to install the game. Just make it download and play, please!

As a gamer I will play any console, but my console of choice is Playstation. With that said, the fact remains that people constantly bash SONY, but when Microsoft screws up that's hardly the case. So there is a certain degree of loyalty to a console whether people want to admit it or not. People get frustrated for updates!? Come on man. Stay ahead of things and see if there are any upcoming updates. That is not a problem, at least to me it never was.

Nearly everything electronic has updates these days. If you were a playstation plus subscriber as i am, it will do the updates when you elect it to do so and the only time you have to sit through it is when some sort of user action is required.

If you want to talk about some serious problems with the ps3 why dont we talk about the practically useless internet browser, i mean seriously, my phone runs internet better than my ps3. And I dont think anyone can say that my ps3 shouldnt have more power than my samsung galaxy prevail from boost mobile.

Remember it does everyting, Just not everything as good as other devices.

I hope for the PS4 Sony would allow the updates to go to the download manager. That way if you get disconnected from the net you don't have to start all over again and they would be downloading in the backgraound while you can be doing something else.

soon as I saw the words "call of duty" among a negative PS3 article I was finished. Funny thing is people like this that use PS3s don't even have PS+ which downloads the firmware and patches games over night with out you even knowing it. Last time I checked XBL doesn't do that. Auto syncing trophies are also included with PS+ too.

Love or hate IGN or Miller...he raised some valid points in a few areas that I think we can all hope Sony will address in the PS4.

I come from a long history of technology. My first is was ms dos at age 11. I understood how to get programs installed, how to get them to read floppy disks and how to write some simple codes. Then when I came to the console generation I liked the idea of putting something in and it would promptly start playing. Then Windows 98, Mac OS, Windows ce, me, nt, 2000, Vista, and finally 7.... I can't tell you how many times I got flustered with installing anything on a computer just to find out previous software doesn't work on New operating systems.... So when the PSP came out I already knew a lot about how to get things running on it. I got the PS3 and I knew immediately what to expect.... The Xbox and the 360 I never bought. But I don't have a problem myself with the PS3 due to my heavy background in technology. So you have to understand that not everyone has a strong background in technology.

I have owned a PS3 since January 2007. By now I am used to everything. I expect every game I buy to have a patch to install before I play it. So I a lot some extra time for it to install before I play. I do what that age old cartoon said and I play a game on my ps vita or PSP while it installs. Once it's done I plat the game and delete it.

All of my movies I buy from the store and rip it to my PSP or ps vita. I like the artwork on the covers. Even hd versions.

The more you know the more you get out of the things you buy. But today's consumers are just lazy. So Microsoft pretty much preyed upon that and look at what they have. Sony just needs to advance themselves in the r and d department a little bit and find that we like advancements with ease of use.

LONG LIVE PLAY

The updates for games you buy on the store is the only thing that pisses me off. I don't know why they wouldn't have the latest version updated on the psn store. If you download an app on the iPhone that's been out since launch of the iPhone you don't download every single update that has been released since. That is one thing that really needs addressed not a huge issue but it is a pain in the ass.
Still wouldn't mind seeing the digital games come a little closer in price to the physical copies sold at amazon/best buy/etc....there is no middleman. No physical product to release, it's bandwidth and then profit.

I think some of the points are just minor. He left off a major knock on the PS3. The thing can't multitask worth a damn. I shouldn't have to back out of whatever I'm doing just to adjust settings. What was Sony thinking when they made the PS3?

It would be so nice if I could pause a game and browse the store, without quitting the game.

I'm pretty sure this will be taken care of next console along with other issues. Vita has none of these problems the PS3 has....well...firmware and downloading is still slow. Would be nice to start the install prior to completing the download...

You know what I hate? Dumb people that come up with dumb reasons to not like something that can be fix.

I'm a Plus member, you know what that means? It means my system can update itself and games without me have to sit their and watch it. Problem fix cry baby and last I check, 360 was a pain to watch update too (yeah it might not take as long, but its mostly because the 360's updates aren't that big).

my biggest gripe with sony is how retarded their software is. there should be only one media player, it should be able to do the most mundane things a media player should aside playing media...like a decent search, an add to now playing, let you browse your media while playing...in this specific aspect, sony actually removed that feature.

what about integrating every app so that it doesnt feel like a disconnected experience? and that stupid ingame xmb...am not even gonna rant about it. its just awful. i get it that memory is a problem, but that doesnt justify the lame media player we have on the ps3. and how difficult can it be to add a sound overlay to games so you can listen to whatever you want? these problems are also replicated in the psp and the vita so my take is that sony sw engineers arent the sweetest cookie in the jar.

Not being funny or anything but had a ps3 since launch.i love everything about it. even more so since my other half bought a 360 for kinect.trying to navigate their menu system takes far longer than a ps3 takes to do n update imo. terrible interface xbox has. havnt touched it with a barge poll since. infact she hated it too and got a refund. kinect was shit also. cant be played when u have kids running around,it simply confuses the damn thing.

I dont play my 360 very often, but a few times last year it seemed like every time I turned it on it needed an update(twice). I didnt complain because I knew I hadn't been using it.(gran turismo/killzone 3 are hard to stop playing! They keep calling to me!!!), seems like it goes both ways!

My brother has a 40 gig that he didn't even turn on for a couple of YEARS, it still had OtherOS installed. About 4 months ago I was over there, hooked it up and was expecting the thing to update for the next 24 hours. I was surprised when it literally took 5 minutes. Sony has really come a long way with their updates.

The rage in here is comedy though, people get so upset when anything negative is said about their console. It cracks me up that people get emotionally attached to a product or a corporation.

360's biggest problems:

1. You have to pay for everything you can do for free on PS3.

2. One small tap and the console will shread your game.

3. How Microsoft knew the console would eventually crap out, and made sure to have a "red light" to let you know that you're fuck'd.

A lot of crying over nothing. I'm tired of the crybabies who say the PS3 has too many updates. There haven't been that many updates lately. If you always need an update when you turn your PS3 on it means you don't use it very much.

Im not taking sides just bring up questions. IGN seems to put out a lot of opinions about Sony hardware. Why is that?
Both systems have a lot to learn from each other, sometimes i wish the both of them would get together and have a little PlayBox baby, or BoxStation. Bottom line IGN needs to stop making unbiased remarks, and raise questions to let the reader come to the conclusion.

I say mandatory installs for certain games would be my biggest issue I got with the PlayStation 3. Other than that I don't really have any major problems. The biggest issue I got with all 3 consoles is that when a game freezes, I have to unplug the console then replug it just to get it to work again. I can't turn it off.

Well maybe they intended the PS3 to be a real gamers machine...

And perhaps the 360 was intended for casual people that have issues getting Windows to work right

In 84 it took me 10 minutes to load Karateka. Loading took time, unless you were on Atari.

Now, PS3 will do it all at 4AM if you want.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
