They find a way to screw ppl with every new release. They screwed ps3 gamers with VC2, they screwed U.S. and Europe wth VC3, now they're screwing everyone ( themselves included).

Sega have been screwing themselves since the day they unvealed the 32x years ago.

They unleash the beast occasionaly which makes me fall in love with them again but usually its just one bum f*cking after the next with these guys. A shame as VC, Yakuza and Binary Domain are amongst of my fav games this generation.

I don't blame them. People just didn't buy Valkyria Chronicles. The first game only sold 220k in the West, most of which was after a price cut.

I'm still annoyed they didn't get enough support from Sony to make VC2 an actual sequel to VC - you know, one that didn't take place in the most overdone anime trope in the 2000's, a high school. One that was made for a proper console like the original, and could support the watercolor look the original had.

Honestly, that was the turning point for me - I wasn't interested after that. They had two choices: reboot the series as a full-blown console experience, or just spin it off elsewhere like so many Kingdom Hearts titles since 2. Oh well.

I thought VC2 was way better than the first, it had it's limitations, because of the hardware, but the customisation was much better and made for a more gratifying game.

creating relationships between characters was fun to, but I'll aggree that they could have gone with another setting. or the same one, but less highschool-y

Yeah, I had a very different experience with it - the customization was nice, but it seemed like something I would have loved in a bigger, more stylized, more story-driven game. I guess it wasn't so much that it took place in high school as it was that it used the high school anime trope to create a bunch of "filler" content around the numerous characters that I didn't care for. The first one was focused on a few unique things: ancient Nordic civilizations with advanced technology, a protagonist with an interest in botany, villains that argued amongst themselves, it was great. The second one had so many characters and it looked like they didn't know what to do with them at all.

That's what I loved about the first VC - you wanted to keep playing because you wanted to know what happened next. There was stuff going on somewhere else in VC2, sure, but I couldn't have cared any less about the characters than when I was trudging through that game.

I agree that the story ws better in the first and it would have been nice to have something similar in 2, but I found that having a "hub" area to upgrade and talk to character was enjoyable.

also, even though VC2 was cut down in scale it never felt like they were missing budget. In VC, at some points you were supposed to see the entirety of the opposing army and the cinematic only showed 3 tanks.

anyway, both games are great. and I hope they'll be able to make it work as a browser game, even though I would have preferred it on ps3/vita

Replace support from Sony with gamers. At the end of the day companies like Sega make games to make money. They clearly didn't make much of a profit on Valkyria Chronicles (it was in development for 3-4 years and seems to have quite a decently sized staff working on it) considering a large portion of sales were after the game received a price cut, otherwise why would they go on the cheap to release games on platforms that are cheaper to develop for?

Maybe, but after you developed the first game, a lot of those assets are just sitting there. The graphics engine's set - if you want to make improvements, so be it, but it's better than taking a different system and reinventing the wheel graphics-wise, all the while removing the effects that made it special. It would have costed significantly less cash to develop the sequel on PS3 and build - not just cater to - the fanbase that grew as more and more people talked about it.

U_U oh sega why did you ruin such an amazing franchise. First one was amazing, the second one is on the psp when it should have been on the ps3 (or at least put it on psn so I can play on my vita) and the third isn't even coming over...why must you hate us

Hey it should still be on sale its just hard to find. I found it under a section like bundles or something like that. Like 22 bucks with dlc i think. Search around if you want it still (use the ps3 to look).

LOL. I would love to get some trophy support for VC1. That game is hands down one of the best games I've ever played in it's genre. One of the best games period. I've played it twice now and it's long overdue for a third playthrough for me. Wish I had more time for gaming.

What would fix the original VC would have been multiplayer. Trophy support wouldn't add much since the game has those in-game medals that act pretty much as trophies.

I assume this series isn't selling well, though expectations have to be limited for a strategy rpg. Like others have said, the first is one of my favorite games this gen. Great story, amazing visuals, and stellar tweaks to the standard srpg formula. I played a bit of the second game on psp, but found it to feel much less epic than the original, no doubt thanks to the setting. With this announcement, I've pretty much lost faith in a full fledged console sequel. It's so sad that games need to sell millions to be considered a success.

In Japan each game has sold about 200-250k copies each whereas the first game sold about 220k in Europe and North America, the second one bombed, it sold 60k in Europe and North America.

Looks like Sega is taking a few pointers from Square Enix with Kingdom Hearts, Capcom with Monster Hunter and the Tales games on how to royally piss off your core fanbase by throwing the titles all over the place.
