Oh absolutely a marketing tool. They do say any press is good press. People talk about it and it makes the game more relevant.

The usual.
Sex? Nope
Decapitating limbs? YES!

Even if the core idea of the franchise gets a makeover by this, Justified critics? I guess so. People can get religious about their favourite franchises.

Is this article written to focus on sex, women getting killed and religion as a problem ( in gaming )? I think it is. Not so much about the franchise at all. I think the author is using this "problem" as a mean to write this, as I find it to be, garbage.

That trailer kicked some major butt

It was shit but people put way too much into trailers. At the end of the day some firm miles away from the game dev will throw together a cg trailer and bam we're ready to go. Look at dead island - people went mad over that trailer and then went mad again when the game was nothing like it but so what? That's the reality of advertising.

So yeah the trailer was shit but it's just that - a trailer.

But on the inside, at IO Interactive, much more was going on.

You mean destroyed it with this tethered single-player campaign BS... And only the first few levels of the third modern game were on the disc! I'll never support this crap at any price-point! They've lost me as a customer.

Hitman is, and has been, a remarkable series developed by some of the best. Some are better than others, but every Hitman is challenging and fun.

Sure, there have been some stumbles and fumbles, but always in pursuit of the perfect Hitman game. The most recent trilogy is a masterclass in level design.
