It makes sense from a logical perspective. Nearly every corner of our popular culture, from television to comic books, from old movies to amusement park rides, has unearthed successful movie franchises. So, it would only follow that videogames would be a fertile ground for such stuff, right?
Well, as much as no one seems to want to be the bearer of bad tidings, the answer, given the empirical truth, is no. Videogame movies, as a genre, are a wasteland of failed efforts, from the tiny of scale to the quite large. From Super Mario Brothers, the first film ever based on a videogame, right up until last week's In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, not a single one of these films has been what you'd call an unqualified success. But, why? Why can no one make a successful film from a videogame franchise?

New report from Skillsearch found that 22% of those surveyed had been laid off within the past 12 months.

It's a step forward for Stop Killing Games.

The Callisto Protocol director thinks the solution involves the right people, the right timing, and perhaps a little bit of AI
I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise
We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.
Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.
it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.
This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
its not the video or film the person who makes them is an ***
Uwe boll messes them all up...
Next its movies based on Anime they will dominate
The biggest problem with these movies are is that they don't keep to the core story. They change to much of the idea, with director going wild. keep the orginal structure, make sure the hardcore is satisfied. There is too much tinkering to make it great for everyone, and that is just bad logic. People like W.S. Anderson stray to much of the plot, fans want the orginal stuff...if pr exec. did it this way they would attract way more people.
I would call the Resident evil films successful
i think is that Hollywood don't treat game-movie adaptions with respect. They don't put enough resources into them because they know it already has a following therefore it will do well in the box office relative to its budget. Until Hollywood start using A-list directors,Actors, writers. I doubt this will change very much.
Why use Chronicles of riddick? its not based upon a game....
