RipTen Review: Lollipop Chainsaw (360)

Michael Futter writes: I never quite know what to expect when loading up a game with Suda51′s name on it. While my relationship with the creative genius got off to a rocky start with Killer 7, I warmed up quite a lot after playing last year’s fantastic Shadows of the Damned (aside: if you haven’t played Shadows of the Damned yet, you should do that right now). The game was challenging, comical, satirical and, at the same time, heartfelt and sincere.

I love Suda51's work, but I'm still kinda skeptical on this. I might pick up Shadows of the Damned before I try giving Lollipop Chainsaw a go. Hopefully it'll be nice and cheap by then.

I would buy it new and at the current price. SotD is a great game and I highly recommend it. I'm just upset that EA didn't publicize it as much as they could've. SotD did poorly in sales as a result.

Support Suda and Grasshopper Studios!

Amazon had it for pre-order for $45 for a long time and then kicked it up to $60 a week or two before release. Last Suda game I played was No More Heroes Paradise and I liked it... well worth the $18 I got it for new. I will eventually buy Lollipop Chainsaw, but I have to watch my gaming budget. If I wait for them to hit the budget price I can play a lot more games and I can still buy them new a support the developer.

I think I might give this a go... whenever I finish off MY stack of shame.

Great review. Your tip about how to use the lollipops will save some lives.

Excellent review. I just bought this game and I look forward to giving it a go. As for my stack of shame, it grows with every onslaught of new releases. I've accepted this.

If your a fan of Suda's games then I would say to definitely pick this up. The game is not perfect, and there are some flaws..but if anything this game is just plain fun and i've been having a blast playing it.

lol that's cool. I'm waiting for lollipop chainsaw remake to go on major sale before i try it again. I didn't get far in the original, not because i didn't like it tho. I bought shadows of the damned remake instead which is an awesome game and i recommend.

Numbers 6-9 were some of my absolute favorite early gen PS3 games. I'm still bitter about Incognito and Japan Studio.

Goodguy01728d ago

The white knight chronicles and infamous games really need to come to modern platforms. MAG I really miss...poor zipper. The ps3 was definitely a unique console despite it being the worst home console of PlayStation.

Lollipop chainsaw now a remaster not a remake

At fans request apparently.

gold_drake958d ago

i wonder if they looked into what a remake would cost and went "NOPE Remaster it is" haha

FreeckyCake958d ago

It probably has to do with what the producer had mentioned recently. The thing about not wanting to change the essence of the original (e.g censorship). So maybe remastering the game was the best choice.

CrimsonWing69957d ago

The link to the story didn’t really answer the question. It makes no sense that you have to censor a remake and not a remaster.

What I got from that article is licensed music forced them to change to a Remake(?) and that they’re working hard with the platform holders to negotiate not censoring, which Sony is stupid about.

My question is, how would a Remaster not have to go through censorship?

I’ve seen dialogue changed in FF7 and Baten Kaitos. Then you have actual cutscenes being removed like in the dmc remaster.

I assume the same could be done to this game.

FreeckyCake957d ago

No idea. That's why I said " maybe ".

CrimsonWing69957d ago

Bull sh*t, you show me where fans wanted a Remaster instead of a Remake. I was more onboard with a Remake, I’m less excited just playing the same game I did before but now with sharper textures and better framerate.

ModsDoBetter957d ago

Probably realised this won't do the numbers so didn't want to invest.

No harm, I love Lollipop Chainsaw but it's a bit of a niche title.

gold_drake957d ago

yeh it was super niche even bk then

LoveSpuds957d ago (Edited 957d ago )

Loved it back in the day and have my copy sat on the shelf and ypu are right, it was super niche, which is why my copy is increasing in value slowly but surely. Hoping a remaster doesn't tank the value of my PS3 copy
