Wii U Will Continue to Use Friend Codes

Wii U will bring Friend Codes back.

live2play5088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

the problem I believe people had with the Wii version, I told Fils-Aime, is that adults who owned the system felt like, hey, if I'm an adult, treat me like an adult and let me friend people I've met online without having to call a person and exchange a code or something like that. "Agreed," Fils-Aime said.

"You feel like those people will be happier?" I asked.

"Yes, they will be.".

Timmer5088d ago

It's not gonna be like the old FCs, where you had one for the system, and then multiple depending on the games you had.

From what I've read, and what I hope it will be, is like Battle.net's Battletags.

StarFox5088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

why just make regular gamertags and be done with it.

saladthieves5088d ago

That's a question that's baffled me from the introduction of these friend codes. You'd think that implementing in a simple ID name system was a giant ton of work for Ninty.

Friend Codes are bad plain and simple

i think it wil be up to parental controls

This is the seventh time I've seen you post this.

Either it's one of those deja vu things, or I swear the same message is near the top and bottom?!

PopRocks3595088d ago

I take it none of the above commenters have ever owned a 3DS?

If they improve the system then I see no problem. It's honestly no different than using a gamertag, especially since on the 3DS your code was replaced with your platform's username when you and your friend registered each other.

The context of the headline is there to get clicks and nothing more. If it were the same FC system as the Wii, then yes that would be very bad. But it isn't, especially since we already know you can make multiple accounts with usernames on the Wii U.

Drekken5088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

I don't know which are dumber... Friend codes or people who defend them! It is easier to remember or relay a name to a friend to have you added to their list rather than a bunch of numbers.

Nintendo still proves daily that they are out of touch.

jimbobwahey5088d ago

I've never played online on the Wii/3DS but isn't sharing a friend code basically like giving someone your phone number? Both are strings of numbers so while I can see how it sucks for people who want a personalized name, is it really as bad as people are making it out to be?

PopRocks3595088d ago (Edited 5088d ago )

@Drekken

Easier to remember my ass. The latest Gamertag invite I got was from a guy named Marlbrolo158. How the hell is that easy to remember unless I write it down? Like I would for a phone number, or an email address or a friend code?

Excuse me for having a different opinion from yours, pal. Sheesh.

something to look foward too

Fel085088d ago

Bad news. They should get rid of the codes. It's dumb and pointless

Best 2D, Mario World, best 3D, Mario 64. Can't say there's been a bad one, although Mario World 2 wasn't a true sequel. The Mario Land games were good (not the first one) and also Wario Land. I thought after Mario 64, Mario 3D World was excellent.
