Around this time DEC 06 Gear of War really helped the 360 sales, if I'm correct. I was hoping UT3 do the same for the PS3 being a "shooter" which is popular here in NA, and another EPIC classic but, I do not think this has been the case. I think COD and AC took the cake and that new SKU strategy.

Either way I don't think there was a Gears of War/Halo 3 type game for Sony in 07. Seems like in 2008 Sony's big games will be fighting for sales amongst themselves. So many delays may hurt Devs, when their games come out amongst Beast. Sep-Dec are the biggest sale months.

I think if the PS3 continues to trail by 100k's in NA and stay rather close with the 360 in Europe, only Japan where the 360 doesn't sell well at all will make a difference for Sony PS3 world wide numbers. Then again that is expected.

I give VGChartz crap all the time but can we say they are somewhat close? So really it gives us an Idea, knowing it might be up or down al il bit.

Ps3 doin' alright only 2 mil behind the 360 considering the 360 has a year lead and also that most 360 owners need 2 machines so they have one to play while the other is out for repairs!With that AAA hardware of theirs.

What 2008 brings - does Sony start to close the gap or is there no change. In my mind, if Sony doesn't significantly close the gap in 2008 then PS3 will never catch up to the XBOX 360. It will not matter - both systems will be strong - but it has to be a huge disappointment for Sony.

The funny thing is, Sony was so arrogant early on. Now, if they manage to catch up at all it will be a huge moral victory.

Impressive number for a 7 year old game console. PS2 is still doing great. It might surpass 130M units sold when this puppy is retired.

Looks like Halo 3 keeps on trucking!!! Not even the combine sales of UT3 and Uncharted could surpass the beast that is Halo 3. Just more proof that the ps3 is being sold as a bluray player first.

Damn, that's like 8 times better than what Sony was selling in September and October in North America.

North America is the 360's most popular territory, so it's interesting to see how much progress PS3 sales have made in comparison to Microsoft's console. We already know that the PS3 outsold the 360 in 2007 (hardware units), but if Sony can manage to dominate Microsoft in ALL major territories (rathern than 2 out of 3) then they'll definitely catch up fast.

Wii sales were smaller than I expected though. Oh well, still great sales though.

Good numbers by all competitors.The only thingthatsuprosed me, isthat the PS3did not haveone game inthe top 10,butit is duetothesmaller install base. It no way measures the quality of R&C or Drake.

Bottom line...These numbers mean one thing. It means that us gamers will continue to see competitive prices, top quality games, etc fro all systems. No one should be dissapointed. As long as the industry in whole keeps on making profit then we allwill be happybehindthe joystick(controller).

its quite lousy for the biggest time in the holiday when electronics are sold....theres no doubt that 2008 might be better for the ps3 but lets seriously not sugar coat it...if tables were reversed and the xbox sold 797K most of you would be crowing about sonys dominance...as I see it the wii is dominant because of its lower price...no parents want too spend 400 bucks for a console where they can spend 250...thats almost 200K a week sold...and match that with lousy software sales...

@bottom..yes i do..but supposedly it one ups the xbox in so many ways with the new blu-ray format...so what...explain the terrible software sales then cmrbe? almost 3 million consoles sold and they can hardly break 500K with most of its best games....

I find it entertaining how EPIC big back stave dagger against microsoft and xbox 360 fans Unreal Tournament flopped! mmmm... the smell of a waste of a game.... hope it serves as an example for other developers that don't want to bring some games to the xbox 360...

By the way during the holiday season the xbox 360 gain like an extra 1 million insteallbase lead in america against the PS3... how do you like them apples?

You guys notice that the x360 almost outsold the PS3 less than 2:1 in NA this year.

PS3 did around 900k (with Canada) -> 400$-500$.
x350 - 1.35 mln. -> 280$-350$-450$
wii - 1.5 mln. -> 250$.

But the 360 version kept up with the ps2 all year in madden 2008 sales......46 million ps2's vs 10 million 360's..its not impossible for the ps3 too have more then only the bundled games at a million in North America...Im really tired of all the excuses...its like a broken record now....just accept the terrible numbers and come too the realization that the ps3 is only being used as a cheap blu-ray player and not the gaming machine most of us waited for.

i posted earlier that when blu ray out sells hd dvd the bigger userbase excuse cant be used, but when the 360 out sells the PS3 or sells more games than the PS3 they say its because of the 360 having the bigger install base. its funny when the chart is in sonys favor non of those things matter but when the chart is not is sonys favor theres reasons WHY!!

Epic numbers on all consoles. I have to say responding to 54 that it had to be the best year in gaming yet. I bet 2008 will surpass it though. But only time will tell. Video gaming in the billions of dollars. Sure has come a long way.

I got one of those ps3s and NDSes. At least my wife did. Pretty much the only reason we got a ps3 was because my wife wanted a new DVD player, so I figured why blow $100 on yesteryear's platform when I can put that towards the new format. Then walmart.com had the 40gb version with a free game and BT remote. I snatched that up.

360 pwns because the PS3 has a diverse userbase. Well, guess what? That diverse userbase means that MORE people will buy the console, not just hardcore gamers. I know A LOT of people that bought a PS2 because they wanted a DVD player for their bedroom, plus it could play some great games.

Last gen was the same. The xbox had great attach rates. Did it matter to developers then? Why is it so important now?

IMO this year will be interesting. The last xbox saturated the market around 30 Mil consoles. The 360 should approach that mark by the end of the year, but we'll just have to wait and see if the trend keeps going (which is down BTW after a lot of great games released in 2007): 2006: 9 Mil consoles sold, 2007: 8 Mil consoles sold, 2008: ???

And before I get flamed I own both, just like I owned both a PS2 and Xbox. Games FTMFW!!
