Resident Evil 6 is everything else, but not Horror

Xbigy Games' Kamran Draeger writes:

"After reading the interview given by Executive Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and Director Yoshikai Hirabayashi on Resident Evil, horror didn't appear to be making a comeback this time around. From what we've seen at today's Xbox conference at E3, we can pretty much burry any hopes that might have been left."

The words "not horror" and "Resident Evil" shouldn't be spoken in the same sentence... Though unfortunately that's what it has become. :\

kamruk5112d ago

I'm simply insulted after what Kobayashi and Hirabayashi said

fossilfern5112d ago

What did they say ? I must of missed it

malol5112d ago (Edited 5112d ago )

totally agree with this
i was so disappointed with what i saw in RE6 gameplay

there is too much QTE and it was too fast and action oriented
and zombies look Nothing challenging unlike the old classical RE

RE went down a looong way

like i want too feel zombies are about to eat me alive not like
"hey i'll stab this one in the neck and then do so acrobat kick on the other one and smash his head with its a water balloon"

and it had a terrible voice acting and didn't make sense most of the time

"hey we are hitting a train ... and nothing happened to the helicopter but look we are crashing into a building now ... fuck logic.. and then we stand up and dust our selves just to see a surprise party thrown to us by zombies"

kamruk5112d ago

(If you're wondering what I mean about the Kobayashi/Hirabayashi statements, it's in reference to the article that preceded this one: http://xbigygames.com/capco...

"and zombies look Nothing challenging unlike the old classical RE"

The zombies were challenging for you? They basically just stood there and moaned. I'd hate to see you play Dark Souls.

I hate to be crude, but you people are being dumb. I'm not going to form any opinions about this game solely on one scene. It was an action scene, yes, but it looked amazing. Not only that, but we get to see some of the weapon-wielding zombies in action, which to many (including myself) didn't sound good on paper. But it looked pretty damn good to me. Especially the part with all the zombies coming up the stairs.

Keep in mind that Leon seems to be searching for Chris, in what I'm assuming is China. We don't know when this takes place in the game exactly, but it's clear a lot has happened already. Ever heard of a climax? One thing RE has always been good at (for the most part) is telling a story, and I care more about that than being scared by some new gimmick. That being said, I'm sure it will have its moments. In the meantime, stop jumping to conclusions.

Resident evil 6= rip off Gears of war action game...=(

Nes_Daze5112d ago

Nothing about RE5 was scary, this will be the same. But if people like a more arcade style RE, so be it..

fossilfern5112d ago

If it sells they have no reason to change it. Its disappointing, I have no issues with this control scheme but actually make it a horror game and not littered with QTEs and explosions! The horror genre is not what it once was.

I_LOVE_MYSELF5112d ago

I can't say I prefer it, but I like it. I also think Resident Evil 4 was the best instalment. If they was to go back and recreate the same vibe Resident Evil 4 gave me and added modern elements to it whilst focusing on the horror then it would be an instant classic. I think Resident Evil 6 will be a good 8/10 game and will warrant a purchase when the re-release version hits the bargain bin. I refuse to pay full price for a new Capcom game despite how much I want it.

user54670075112d ago (Edited 5112d ago )

They lied...and I hope to god this fails in sales to give them a wake up call

But obviously that isn't going to happen

They could of learnt from their mistakes with RE5 but they didn't

As I've said before Leons story is supposed to be survival horror but all it is is over the top action, MS demo showed us that. Going against what Capcom have said in interviews.

I would of said at least we have DS3 but they are following the same path...

...Damn why do I get so worked up about things in the gaming industry...theres just so many idiots out there, sorry but it's true. It's turned into sales, money and greed, most developers used to be great last gen

Nes_Daze5112d ago

I agree, makes you think if it's worth the time and energy to go against the overwhelming growing trend.

I've had more fun with the original Xbox and the DreamCast than at any time on Xbox 360. Maybe I'm getting old and at age 47 games are losing their appeal or I'm just getting sick of millitary shooters and being nickled and dimed in order to play a complete game. But mostly it seems games have lost their ability to give me a sense of wonder and suprise. Now it seems like when I play I'm just going through the motions and pretending I'm enjoying myself because I don't want to lose my favorate hobby. I remember having so much fun with The Darkness and BioShock: when I played the sequels I had to pause and wonder what the hell happend? There was no fun for me in either. Hopefully the same doesn't happen in Borderlands 2. I'd sure like a Kameo 2. The first one reminded me of why I fell in love with games in the first place.

majiebeast5112d ago

I think for real horror and suspense we need to wait for dead space 3 and last of us.

or if he's being honest.......

Oh….wow, RE6 huh….urm, cool, just what we always wanted.

EW
NOOOOOOOOOO
In what mind make sense to do this with the worse game on the series 🤦🏿

DivineHand125498d ago

I loved Resident Evil 4 back in the day and enjoyed Resident Evil 5 even though I had to do co-op to beat the final boss. Shiva was just too dumb.

Resident Evil 6 on the other hand, was so bad that I stopped playing after an hour in the game. That was before I even played any high-quality single-player games outside of Mass Effect, Portal, and Skyrim. I can't imagine playing RE6 now.

Chances are their next remake will be 5.

Profchaos498d ago

I just don't get why it's already on the platforms via BC unless it's a remake which would piss everyone off as fans are hoping for either the original game or code veronica to get the remake treatment

CrimsonWing69498d ago

Isn’t it already backwards compatible?
