ZeroYui5065d ago

Guess that is the remote we will use for SSB4.

Hisiru5065d ago

Now people can stop bitch about the controller?

MariaHelFutura5065d ago

They'll just move on to something else.

Yi-Long5065d ago

... so I'm very happy with this announcement, cause this looks great and comfortable and seems to have everything we could ask for in a controller.

Great news!

SOD_Delta5065d ago

Eh I was one of the people who bitched about the Tab-controller, But now I'll defiantly get a Wii-U.

nveenio5065d ago

It's PS3 setup with 360 ergonomics. Not a bad idea.

I'm not much of a fan of the 360 controller shape, but the buttons position are spot on. Focusing on analogs as main controls (as in the 360) but still symetrical (as in PS3). That's a winner in my book.

But this don't solve my main concern, which is, what controller method will be the main one and if any will be mandatory.

Wii also had a common gamepad, but most games simply weren't designed to be played with that, they were designed for motion controls.

If the same happens with the WiiU, you probably won't have the option to have this controller OVER the "tab", and just like in Wii, the experience in a common gamepad may end up being subpar.

And the much this new controller looks cool, I actually like the tablet controller idea and want to try that. What bugged me (and apparently mostly everyone else) about that was the shape and size that doesn't look confortable for long gaming sessions.

Now if they can show a controller as ergonomically interesting as this WiiU Pro Controller and still keep the touchscreen, that would be awesome.

EDIT: I'm just watching the Ninty video and it seens they got the Wii U Game Pad (the tablet-like controller) much better in ergonomics! It's still blocky, but it looks like they redesigned the back to make it fits much better. NOW I'm impressed.

glennco5065d ago

only a fool thinks their console of choice doesn't copy other console ideas. this is how the industry (and most industries) advances.

tee_bag2425065d ago

Same, I was bitching about playing games on a tablet too. Now im very interested again.

Biggest5065d ago

Hoping they release packs with that controller as opposed to the tablet. For hard heads like myself that don't want to pay extra for the main controller we'll use.

Abdou235065d ago

I don't know what is the problem with the tablet controller ?! a touch screen in my hands ?! yes please,If i ended up buying WiiU i will never get this pro controller, the tablet is perfectly fine for me.

StoneyYoshi5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

@MARIOFTW

Now im not saying Sony didn't copy any ideas but they had been working on the Move controller since the playstation eye toy came out back on the PS2. They did copy the controller a bit but it is much more accurate and superior compared to the wiimote. They had the technology first. Nintendo just beat them to the market and the success gave sony the idea to actually bring theirs to the market.

showtimefolks5065d ago

yes i am happy with this controller just one thing why are the buttons under the right stick?

that was my only knock about wii-u and N has answered before E3 so super excited for e3 nintendo

StanSmith5065d ago

@dontbhatin

It doesn't matter who copies who though. What matters is that those who do copy, don't just release a straight copy with no improvements.

Sony released Move with improvements over the Wiimote.
MS released Kinect with improvements over the eyetoy.
Nintendo are releasing this controller with improvements over the 360/PS3 pads.

sikbeta5065d ago

So, no more tablet-controller, meaning cheaper controller (as in affordable) and by that cheaper console package = cheaper price tag? Nice :D

StanSmith5065d ago

@sikbeta

Noooo the tablet is still there. This is just for us PS3/360 gamers if we don't like the tablet controller.

DragonKnight5065d ago

Why are people saying the analog and button placements are good? Are you telling me your hands are so freakishly asymmetrical that you believe the analog sticks being THAT HIGH is a good thing? Man, why did Microsoft have to go ruin controller design? Most of this is 360 with a hint of PS3. Pretty lame of Nintendo considering they used to come up with their own unique designs.

SilentNegotiator5065d ago

Now that it has a normal controller?

Sure.

Oh_Yeah5065d ago

YES!...as long as you can use this for most games, sign me up for a wii u. that big tablet thing just isnt my style, good for mobile pron though xD

starchild5065d ago

It looks pretty good. I'll have to feel it in my hands to really know, but I like what I see.

I actually thought it was an Xbox 360 controller when I first saw it. I guess we can all admit that Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft all borrow from each other. But so what? That's part of progress.

NewMonday5064d ago

kind of defeats the idea of the WiiU

and will also jack up the price

MaxXAttaxX5064d ago (Edited 5064d ago )

"This is just for us PS3/360 gamers if we don't like the tablet..."

No, this is ALSO for the Nintendo gamers who may not like the tablet controller. Yes, those people exist too.

irepbtown5064d ago

Never really liked the Wii to be honest.

But Wii U has caught my eye. What I read about it only gets better as the months progress.

ThanatosDMC5064d ago

This thing reminds me of my old Logitech xbox controller.

Anon19745064d ago

Nice! I'm glad they're giving us an option to get rid of that whole "Wii-mote" nonsense. My interest in the Wii-U just went from non-existent to intrigued.

better work for every single game

user54670075065d ago

I said it would be nice to give us an optional core controler in another article and I was disagreed to death.

What did I say...this is all I wanted

miyamoto5065d ago

This design makes sense for Nintendo. If your going after the PS360 gamers you make a controller they are used to & are designed for their kind of games.

But does this relegate the game tablet controller for the casual gamers?

And what will be the default controller?
Will you gamers buy this one on top of the tablet controller?

Rainstorm815065d ago

i agree axel...if this controller is an extra cost i dont see every game supporting it.

The only way this could perfectly work is if the console comes with both but we all know that wont happen, so it will be interesting to see how this will be implemented.

Personally i would like to see the unique things that can be done with the Wii-U gamepad and as a core gamer i want the pro controller, especially for a next gen Zelda, even though Zelda will undoubtedly work better with the gamepad

user54670075064d ago

@axelstone

Thats actually a good point

It really means that the Wii U game pad is actually a casual controler if Nintendo feel the need to make a Pro controler.

So much for their core approach.

attilayavuzer5065d ago

Well Nintendo just nailed the coffin shut on the wii mote, no serious developer is going to go back to that when they can port controls over to this.

StanSmith5065d ago

I think they're mainly there so we can still play Wii games on it like mario galaxy. The tablet and the classic pads will be the main controllers going forward.

Patriots_Pride5065d ago

Funny how no one is talking about the battery - from the USB looks like it will be internal like Sony controller which i like instead of detachable.

YOUGOTOWNEDLOL5065d ago

Wow Nintendo! you straight up copy the 360 controller! you must be really hungry for the hardcore crowed. Damn copy with no shame!

dreamtheater875065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

360 knock off? Come on, so much is owed to Nintendo when it comes to innovation in controllers. The N64 was the first controller to have an analogue stick for the thumb and the first rumble/vibration. And I'm sure the GameCube controller was the first to have shoulder pads that had varying degrees of pressure and a "click".
The modern controller is essentially an evolution of the NES controller. Btw, I love the 360 controller.

christheredhead5065d ago

Wait, didn't Micrsoft copy the Dreamcast controller?

So basically, the Wii U pro is a Dreamcast controller if you think about it.

Makes no difference who copied who though. Its a controller. As long as its functional I have no problems.

Bobby Kotex5065d ago

Dreamtheater have you seen a 360 controller lately? Nintendrones are in denial. It's the EXACT same shape.

tee_bag2425065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

I couldn't care who copied who or fan-ish semantics. That's what happens. A good design is usually copied and refined. What matters most is the end user gets the best of generations of contoller tech and ergonomic evolution.
The controller looks very decent. Plus it also looks like the Dpad is good enough for fighters too.

nintendojunkie285065d ago

It does resemble the basic design of the 360 controller..which I'm totally fine with, but considering nintendo first implemented or at least made commonplace a lot of the features we now take for granted on modern gaming controllers,we can't really say they copied anything.

....Quite often it's the other way around..

this is literally the EXACT same case the 360 uses. not complaining or being a troll. i just think its pretty funny how close they are in visual features.

Very good for what it is. Make it a bit sexier, and oh gosh the Wii U is going to be amazing for either crowd of controller fans.

mugoldeneagle035065d ago

Wii remote & nunchuck, Gamepad, & Pro right?

Gonna be interesting to see how this all works out

legend9115065d ago

Actually I mean for the other console players and the tablet controller people. :) But it works in many more ways than just that of course. They showed this off to help draw attention to their E3 and this will be a good E3.

ZeroYui5065d ago

haha it does look like the xbox360 remote.

Statix5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

That is hilariously similar in shape to the 360 controller! The only real difference is that the right analog stick is positioned upwards now (which I actually like).

Even the trigger and bumper buttons look amazingly close to the 360 controller, almost like they were ripped straight out of it.

EDIT: To fanboys saying I'm "complaining about this..." grow up, because I'm not complaining. I like the look and design of this controller, and think it will be useful for hardcore games and shooters. I'm simply pointing out the obvious, which is that Nintendo blatantly ripped off the overall shape and some button designs from the 360 controller.

thincom20005065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

Please dig out your Gamecube controller and put it next to the 360 controller. Note the stick positions. I would have preferred the Gamecube arrangement, but then people would have really accused Nintendo of stealing the 360 design, having completely forgotten about the Gamecube. I really hope the upward position of RS feels natural, because I still haven't been able to acclimate to PS2/3's double-down.

HalfNerdHalfAmazing5065d ago

Look very similar to the Xbox 360 controller

LOL_WUT5065d ago

It does :( damn it oh well i guess.

PopRocks3595065d ago

What exactly is the problem? Isn't a classic controller precisely what you bozos wanted?

scotchmouth5064d ago

People still use the term "Bozos"? Man I haven't heard that in ages.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

AuraAbjure39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer40d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot40d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno40d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay39d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno38d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK38d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
