All fanboyism aside, I admit, Microsoft makes good (not great) products, even if they're not innovative, but they still make good products nontheless. If they put their time and money into manufacturing great products and products that last, they would have way more backers and followers. But I don't like their business tactics. The way they handle their business is unethical. Maybe those execs, including Bill, are realizing that Microsoft is going down hill and will continue to go downhill, so that's why they left.

Man I do not want Mac's to take over nor Apple. The Mac is seriously not that great, why would I pay £1000 plus just for a shiny computer which is weaker and is for simple people.

I can get a PC with either Linux or Windows, better specs, a better case, more software support then Apple will ever have. Itunes sucks, I would rather use other programs. Again I will say:

PC > Macs anytime anyday

Windows > Linux > Mac OS

Creative > Zune > Walkman > Ipod

I'm running Ubuntu linux on my PS3 right now, and that's the biggest "F*ck You" to Microsoft you could possibly give.

Everyone who owns a PS3 should do this (if you have a HDTV) because trust me, it is sooo f*cking worth it.

The only problem is the inability to play PC games, but that's not really a problem, since you've got a PS3 anyway.

Bill Gates announced his departure 2 years ago and has only been working part time, so no big deal.

High level execs routinely leave companies to either spend more time with their family, retire since their rich and usually older, or go on to another big company who is offering more cash.

The reason why it will take a while for MS to sink is the fact that the company is worth over 309 billion dollars. Compare that with Sony who is worth 51 billion dollars.

Basically MS is worth more than 6 times what Sony is. Even if they lost 83% of their stock price(market cap) they would still be worth more than Sony. As you can see Sony is small potatoes compared to MS, and probably not even considered a true rival.

People have been claiming gloom and doom for MS for over a decade now. First it was Netscape, than it was going to be Java, than Linux was the MS killer. Oh and the big one. The antitrust lawsuit that was supposed to rip them into three companies, and therefore limit their power. However they keep chugging along.

Let's look at the list of companies that MS has gone head to head (most were considered market share leaders at the time)
- Netscape (former market leader, not relevant anymore)
- Novell (former market leader, not relevant anymore)
- IBM (had to reinvent their company and business model after MS whooped up on them. They were the MS of the 80's. Now a partner with MS)
- AOL (former market leader, not relevant anymore)
- Palm (former market leader, are they relevant anymore? Either way, you see Palm devices running windows mobile now)
- Linux (chugging along at 4% marketshare. Makes the PS3 marketshare look huge)
- Apple (chugging along at 3% marketshare. However IPOD is huge)
- SUN (now a partner with MS. Not relevant anymore)
- Google (The only company that is truly beating MS)
- Corel/WordPerfect (former market leader, Are they even around anymore?)
- Oracle (Staying competitive with MS, however they have lost a lot of market share)
- Nintendo (Currently winning against MS)
- Sony (Let's see, they had to borrow money to launch the PS3.
Lost over half the profits they made on the entire PS2 generation in the PS3's first year. Had to sell off R&D facilities (Cell processor) to be able to offer a price cut, so they could be remotely competitive. MS is bleeding these guys dry.)

I am sure I missed a few companies. However consider that most of these companies had a much stronger market position compared to the PS3, and over half of these companies had a lot more resources at the time than what Sony has now.

It was a bit suspicious when Peter Moore unexpectedly left after E3 and J. Allard had basically disappeared off the map; both were pivotal figures in Microsoft's Entertainment Division (i.e. Xbox), so their disappearances were quite surprising.

I'm starting to get the hint that Microsoft is intending to cease support of the Xbox 360 after the end of 2008. The Xbox brand has been a financial nightmare since its launch in 2001, and Microsoft will be lucky to break even by the end of the 360's life cycle. 2007 was their biggest year in terms of software lineup and online service upgrades, but the RROD Warranty publicity literally killed their global momentum.

Even in a year where Forza, Project Gotham, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Halo (mother-fing HALO!) were able to see releases, the 360 still sold significantly fewer units than in 2006.

At E3, the press was so eager to see Microsoft's 2008 lineup; Microsoft focused solely on games for 2007 that everyone already knew about.

At TGS, the press was really eager to see Microsoft's 2008 lineup; Microsoft focused solely on games coming out within the next two months, which was a big "WTF" moment for journalists throughout the industry.

And at X07...well...that got cancelled. If that's not indicative of the 360's murky future, I don't know what is. A third Xbox is probably halfway through development right now, but it's doubtful that Microsoft will risk billions more just to win third place in the console wars.

Because like any company, it has a lifecycle. That is why the Xbox project is so important to them, and why MSN is too. Microsoft seeks to survive through the living room and internet, since Operative Systems, as much as Microsoft and their followers want to deny it, will also disappear, at least the way they exist today.

It may sound ludicrous, but if Optical Disk Media will disappear, why not everything that consumes unnecessary $$$ and CPU resources? Hell, why even spend so much money on new processors, Hard Disks, Memory, Operative Systems, and so on when you could simply stream and utilize every resource ON DEMAND?

You could have simply a computer with minimal resources and everything you need as far as space and processing power will be somewhere else. You'll simply need the results, so your current game or application will be run in real-time somewhere else.

Your computer will be sort of a dumb terminal; that is, a lot dumber than what you'd expect with the current rate of evolution of technology. And why is that? Because it would be cheaper for everyone.

An Open Source OS, streamed directly from the net to your minimal RAM ammount on your dumb terminal, running programs you rent for a minimal ammount that run on processors somewhere on the net. It's bound to happen since eventually technology will hit a wall, and resources will still have to be utilized, and therefore its use will need to be managed optimally in order for everyone to be as satisfied as possible.

That's Microsoft vision; however, with mighty giants like Google and Open Source giants like Wikipedia, MSFT will be a competitor at best, or not relevant at worst.

I havent been this Stale in the Windows platform as a whole forever basically. I proably wont upgrade to vista because Really its jsut not worth it. You got amazing graphics on the PS3 with a huge TV, and what do i gotta pay to upgrade like 2000$ for Vista + Hardware components. Its just not worth it anymore. The margin for Speed vs. return is literally idiocy. My Ahtlon64 3800 Runs Fast as hell. I got 1.4TBs of storage, and a PS3 with a 46in LCD. What bother upgrading?? Microsoft has definately created themselves to be in the biggest pothole of the electronics industry. It's clearly stated that Microsoft utilizes poor business practices under slave demands. It doesnt surprise Dark Sniper that all of the figureheads at Microsoft have reportedly jumped ship.
